---LOUD----Update: DUDE! This thing is smokin! M2 Mac Mini Pro getting over 3100 r/w
UPDATED BELOW: I am cheap. And if you are looking around for a sub$50 enclosure, you finally came here. I read every review. Saw that some people must be doing something wrong. Because others are getting speeds like i am. 1. It is quiet. I would expect to hear the fan more. But the design is to pull air into the unit and out of the fins, rather than blowing hot air out. This makes it quiet and efficient. BUT, there is still a slight high pitch wine from it. And it seems to stay on/running. I put mine behind the screen and that helped. 2. Speeds are great. Just what they promised. My EVO can do more than it can. But this is fine for now and I run FCP through it. 3. Construction. Like others say, "It is a tank". Guessing the strong thick metal is how they managed to make it so small. 4. Cable is fine. Some people reported the cable is a bottle neck. Not mine. 5. Install. Worked great. Easy to install SSD. 6. Did not read instantly. Had to follow instructions. Who reads those? I had to. Simple. If you can install an SSD you will figure out the configuration to get it to read. Very happy. Just wish I would have bought a 4gb instead of 2. Like I said, I am cheap. --------------------------UPDATE: Its LOUD---------------- Getting louder. It is clean. Can't figure out why its loud. I have to unplug it each night so we can sleep. I bought an Acasis that sits next to it that is literally silent.

Fix High Temperatures and Increase Drive Speeds
I'm a video producer, and my NVME SSD drives work hard all day. Because of this, they get very hot. They regularly hit temperatures of 84ºC or higher. The hottest of which is an older Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB. Like many NVME SSD drives, the read and write speeds suffer at higher temperatures. In the Orico M234 case, the speeds at 45ºC are: Write: 1,533 MB/s | Read: 2,997 MB/s. But after 10 minutes, the temperature rises to 84ºC. At that temperature, the speeds are: Write: 536 MB/s | Read: 534 MB/s. Due to those slower speeds at high temps, I started researching drive enclosures with fans and came across the Ineo C2598 with the fan. I was nervous the fan would be too loud. I'm happy to report that it's extremely quiet and very difficult to hear. But the most dramatic difference between the Ineo and Orico cases (the latter has no fan) is the dramatic improvement in speed at a substantial drop in operational temperature. In fact, the drive maintained roughly 1,500 MB/s write and 3,000 MB/s read, all while measuring an 8ºC increase in temperature (from 45ºC to 53ºC after 10 minutes.) I let the Blackmagic Speed Test app run continuously for another 10 minutes (for a total of 20), and the case maintained a temperature of 53ºC. Another bonus was that my Sabrent Rocket Pro NVME drive is fully compatible with the Ineo C2598. Contrarily, the same drive would dismount from time to time in the Orico M234 case. If you're looking for an NVME enclosure with Thunderbolt 4 speed that won't let the drive performance suffer at higher temperatures, I can easily recommend the Ineo C2598.

Works fine, but seller lied to me
Before I bought this NVMe enclosure, I asked the seller if the controller would support passing TRIM/Discard commands through while in UASP mode, which is the enhanced mode used when connected via USB 3.x.. The seller said that it would do this, but it very definitely does not. TRIM/Discard is an optional feature that is technically supported by the UASP spec, but basically nobody implements this device-protecting command. I thought I had finally found an enclosure that supports it, but alas I did not. Only deducting one star because everything else works well, and I intend to keep it.

Really fast, not 40gbps but...
Does not saturate the 40gbps speed but supposedly there aren't any single nvme enclosures that I have seen that post faster data speeds. This thing is built like a tank, small, fast and okay priced in comparison to others. The fan is quiet and not obnoxious. 4 stars instead of 5 since it isn't getting 40gbps speeds. This enclosure does not handle thunderbolt 4 as we have used it over the year. It will randomly unmount the drive while performing any large task if connected to the back thunderbolt 4 port of a mac pro. The slower front ports it operates fine but then you loose your speeds. It also has developed a very noisy fan. It started out fine but now is very loud and rattly.

By far the best Nvme external drive Ive used
For context of what I'm doing all this on is a MacBook pro M3 max with max specs and attaching the drive to the Ivanky fusion dock max, with the OWC thunder bay flex 8 pluged directly into the mac and transferring from the Ineo usb 4.0 m.2 name enclosure. This external Nvme enclosure has some great features. High speed transfer, cooling fan, temperature safety, heat conduction silicone. The fan is silent enough that I can't tell it's running with some slight ambient noise in the room. The cooling system isn't perfect but it's a lot better than other external drives ive tried. In my testing I can transfer about 100-200 GB with out it being interrupted by the thermal protection. The thermal protection will disconnect the drive from your computer to protect the drive but it will reconnect immediately. For the speed of the transfers ive been experiencing the average size that i can transfer at once is 120 GB and it takes around 1-2 minutes to complete. There is a time that you need to pause so the drive can completely cool down. That can take a minute or two as well. For reliable transfers It is best to stay under the 100GB amount and keep 2 minutes space between transfers. I don't see some one transferring this much information constantly. So it's not really something to worry about, but good to be aware of.

Too damn LOUD so as to be useless
Stupid annoying buzzy fan sound is maddening Other than that, it’s fast

Internal Fan Breaks after One month of use.
Title says it all. Used with a 2GB NVM and fan is crazy loud after one month of use. I produce music so this is unacceptable. I’m out of the return window so I disabled the fan by putting a tiny strip of electrical tape over the fan contacts. I’m crossing my fingers this is going to work until I find a reasonably priced fan-less USB4 enclosure. In general, you should stay away from this model and all models that look like it (there are other clones out there). Stick with fan-less units that rely on massive heatsinks/fins instead of dime-store fans.

Good enclosure. Performance and life to be determined.
I got this to add to my Linux machine acting as NAS to “grab and go” some critical data I need with me when I am out. This is small enough for that purpose. It’s fast, well built and easy to put together. I have 4TB HP SSD in and it was a tight fit. One thing to keep in mind is how big your SSD is as I could barely close it because the HP SSD came with thick thermal pad on top. The one that comes with unit is quite thin. Also, I read that this doesn’t support TRIM. It does seem to. Here is what did to get TRIM/discard working on Linux. As root, create a udev rules file (typically in /etc/udev/rules.d) , e.g. 45-ineo.rules . Then drop the following content in it. ACTION=="add|change", ATTRS{idVendor}=="174c", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2463", SUBSYSTEM=="scsi_disk", ATTR{provisioning_mode}="unmap" ACTION=="add|change", ATTRS{idVendor}=="174c", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2463", SUBSYSTEM=="scsi_disk", ATTR{thin_provisioning}="1" Then reboot the computer. You need to add the discard option to /etc/fstab and crypttab (if using encryption) and the next time you run fstrim or delete a file trim is passed. Hope that helps anyone looking for TRIM/discard related topic.
