Works as intended
This purchase was one among several of this product over time. The plastic components are, in my estimation, throw away grade because with regular use the plastic wears away and tool becomes unusable. As a handyman this is not an issue because the cost to replace is acceptable and it is an easy to use tool. When it becomes unusable simply toss and order another

Makes it easy to install door locks on blank doors.
I used this kit to add a door lock to a blank door. The kit made it easy to get all of the necessary holes drilled to end up with nice straight well aligned holes.

Satisfied
I recently purchased a door knob installation tool, and it has proven to be an invaluable addition to my toolkit. I used it to make precise holes in solid wood doors, and the results were impressive.Ease of UseThe tool was incredibly user-friendly. The instructions were clear, and I was able to set it up quickly without any prior experience. The process of aligning the tool on the door and making the cuts was straightforward, which significantly reduced the time and effort typically required for such tasks.PerformanceOne of my initial concerns was the quality of the plastic guide. It seemed a bit flimsy at first glance, and I was worried it might not hold up during use. However, to my pleasant surprise, the plastic guide was more durable than it appeared. It maintained its integrity throughout the entire project, providing reliable guidance for the cutting process.AccuracyThe tool made highly accurate cuts, which is crucial when installing door knobs. The holes were perfectly aligned, ensuring that the door knobs fit seamlessly and operated smoothly. This level of precision would have been challenging to achieve without the assistance of this tool.Build QualityWhile the plastic components initially raised concerns, the overall build quality of the tool was satisfactory. The metal parts were sturdy and well-made, contributing to the tool's effectiveness. The combination of metal and durable plastic materials provided a balanced design that performed well under pressure.Value for MoneyConsidering the cost of the tool compared to the convenience and precision it offers, I find it to be an excellent value for money. It saved me a considerable amount of time and effort, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone needing to install door knobs on solid wood doors.ConclusionIn summary, this door knob installation tool exceeded my expectations. Despite my initial doubts about the plastic guide, it held up remarkably well and contributed to an easy and accurate installation process. I highly recommend this tool to both DIY enthusiasts and professionals looking for a reliable and efficient solution for door knob installations.

Worked Just Well Enough, But is 1 Time Use for Metal Doors
This is more of like a 2.5-2.75 star review instead of a 3 star.---The Main Things to Know---This will be a 1-3 hour ordeal with all the things to work around and a little luck getting things right. I was very prepared for the job as a well above average DIY'er and barely got through it without an extreme error being made (way to easy to make with this kit)!****I recommend just paying a locksmith to do this work, because using this kit, it is EXTREMELY easy to mess up to a point where you will need to buy and install both a new door and door frame!!!!If you mess up (again easy to do) it will cost you hundreds of dollars in a new door, new frame, labor to put that in, JUST to get back to the point where the hole needs to be drilled again.THERE IS NO EASY FIX FOR A DAMAGED DOOR FRAME OR A DOOR!On to what I learned using this kit!I was able to get the job done but I'm not sure this kit would have worked to drill a hole completely through 100% of my rental home's exterior door. This is a door that allows outside access from the carport into the home. The plastic guide melted away while cutting the hole due to heat generated by the hole saw. The guide is trashed and amounts to a 1 time use on the side I used. The hole saw teeth were no longer very straight and likely dulled up a bit by the time I got through the metal and the wood core of the door. Also the hole saw did not cut a very clean flush hole and bent the steel door metal inwards a bit and almost to an unacceptable point. The only thing that made it "acceptable" was the fact that the round deadbolt hole cover just BARELY covered up the evidence of this hole. Phew. You WILL need to paint the door after using this tool. It will be too scared up and the melted plastic will have marred or marked up the door too much. So prepare to paint afterwards. The hole saw did not do a great job of getting through the wood core to metal face on the other side of the door. I did not need to drill a hole through that metal face and I'm not sure the hole saw would have been able to do so, UNLESS I pulled it out of the door and started from the outside on that other side/face of the door. This wouldn't be an issue IF the guide could be trusted to have not warped AND the hole saw could handle that additional cutting.Personally I wouldn't trust the plastic guide at this point since 1 side had already melted away and the guide was warped. I would have just cleared out the wood core and use the existing hole to drill through the other side of the door from within the empty hole that was already created. This way the holes would have a greater chance of lining up properly but my faith is not high in the accuracy of the tool at this point. It is very likely that 2 holes would be created that didn't line up very well. The router bit does not work at all.BUY a proper 1/2 inch wood chisel and have a hammer to use the chisel. Be prepared to spend a little time chiseling away the wood to allow for the door's side hardware to be installed flush in the door and in the door frame. Also, there is no alignment tool or help provided by the kit to allign and drill the hole into the door frame where the deadbolt will go. Get some nail polish or something like that and mark the face of the bolt and close it against the door frame to mark where you need to drill. DO NOT SKIP THIS SUGGESTION!If you drill the hole improperly and cannot line things up you do NOT have much wiggle room to correct it and get it right. Meaning you will run out of wood that you can screw the door frame hole face plat into. There is no easily fixing this and you may end up having to buy a new door frame! TAKE THIS SERIOULY! :)Fitting the deadbolt hardware inside the hole required me to hammer and chisel out wood core on the door just so the deadbolt would fit all the way in. Another reason the hammer and chisel are mandatory.---Details on Why I Needed this Product---I bought this to use on the bi metal door (outsides are steel, core is wood).I had to install a no key deadbolt which is a deadbolt that locks from the inside only and has no key. Therefore you only had to drill through 1 metal/steel side of the door and the wood core.I used the plastic guide which was easy to install.I drilled/sawed the hole but had a heck of a time getting the wood core out so I kept at it and when I knew I was like 99% of the way there I just switched gears and attacked the wood core with the hammer and chisel to basically remove it in enough pieces until I could pull all of the wood out.I still needed the chisel to make more room inside the door for everything to fit properly so be ready to do this. There is no alignment tool for the hole you need to drill into the door frame. I used what I had on hand to make a close alignment of the bolt. I did not get this exactly right the 1st time around BUT thank goodness I was just close enough on my 1st attempt that I had enough door frame wood to work with to get it correct on my 2nd attempt! Lesson learned here to use nail polish on the face of the bolt to get a very accurate alignment against the door frame to drill the hole! With everything aligned and installed I had just barely managed to cover the hole with the dead bolt hole cover and all was good to go EXCEPT the door was marred up from the hole saw and the guide to the point where it needed some sanding and prep to smooth it up again and then a repainting of the door.I had already planned to paint the door so this was not a big deal BUT would be for someone who is not preapred to do so.---Conclusion to this long review---I'm a very competent, prepared, and logical DIY'er with plenty of experience rehabing this rental property and working on my primary residence. This kit and the work needed is simply not worth the $20'ish dollars with how easy it is to completely mess up the door and door frame.Get the right professionals who have the correct tools to do this job in about 20-30 minutes and if they mess it up they buy you a new door and door frame (they shouldn't mess it up).Life will be easier :)

Absolute garbage. Router bit is just a drill bit. Plastic isn’t sturdy
The concept of this is good. It looks like this kit has changed over time from its original version as the colors of the hole saws are different. The router bit also isn’t a router bit. It’s just a drill bit. It does absolutely nothing. Older user pictures of the router bit shows that the design of it was also different at some time in the past. The main kit is two plastic pieces that are held together simply by small clips. When I was drilling the hole I had an issue where this would come apart with just slight pressure from the hole saw and drill. I would then have to unscrew the yellow piece to set the blue piece back together. That sucked. Then the “ custom router bit” turned out to just be a simple drill bit. It does absolutely nothing, except what you would expect a drill bit to do. It just drills a hole. Nothing else.Don’t buy this. It may have used to be a good kit but it’s not anymore. I’m going to try to get my money back since it’s not as advertised.
