It Works!
Cute hummingbird. Soak it in water for at least 15 minutes. Dry it off with a paper towel and submerge in your brown sugar. It keeps it soft for a few weeks. In the past, I didn't remoisten it and wound up with dried up brown sugar as hard as a rock. The secret is to inspect it every few weeks and re-wet it. Doing so will save your brown sugar.

Worked like a miracle
Amazing - I wouldn't have believed it could be so effective! I had a bag of brown sugar that was hard as rocks and thought it was worth trying one of these terra cotta gadgets to salvage it. Within one day, it had softened the entire 16oz. I put it in an airtight glass canister, followed instructions plus stirred the contents to make sure it was evenly distributed. Worked like a charm. Now I'm giving these as gifts.

Nice and functional
I have one bottle of white sugar and one bottle of brown sugar left untouched on the cabinet for few years. I anticipated they could be rock hardened now because not sure if the common coffee glass bottles which i reused to fill sugar are perfectly airtight. First time seeing this kind of terra cotta pieces so i don't mind to buy myself two pieces just-in-case, the size is bigger than i thought. I was a bit worried to see fine crack lines on one of them, but overall they're beautiful i'm happy to get hummingbird pattern. I soaked the one with crack lines in water from night until the next evening and thank goodness it didn't break. I pat it dry with cloth before tossing it into the white sugar bottle to test. Few days later i opened the bottle and checked, there're moisture droplets inside the bottle. Not sure why (could it be i soaked it for generously long hours?). Sugar still looks ok, can easily loosen the upper layer with steel spoon even though slightly caked up due to long existence, oooppsss, anyway i guess it will be continuosly fine. Didn't test this on brown sugar because i test it with a different brand which i bought together.

It Works!
I was just about to toss a fairly new bag of brown sugar out when I learned of this terra cotta product. I soaked the product in clean filtered water for longer than the 15 minutes the directions state. A day later and it was perfectly soft again.

works
Definitely works. My brown sugar in box or bag would become like a cinder block. I would have to take a heavy stainless steel garlic press and beat off a chunk and heat it before using it. Anyway I stumbled upon this as a solution. And it works. I soaked the disc, put it in the bag in the box of sugar that had solidified, checked it in a about 20 minutes, and it was soft on the top where I could work it around by pressing my fingers on the bag. About a week or so later I checked it again and the entire bag of sugar was softened.

Super Cute and Effective Way to Keep My Brown Sugar from Being Rock-like
Got these for the whole extended family. It's a bummer when we go to bake and the brown sugar is dry and hard as a rock. I don't have time to excavate the proper amount, and the rocks may not all dissolve properly in the baking. I know that we can microwave the brown sugar, but that still doesn't always produce the right results. I've also used a piece of bread in the jar before and that works too, but who wants to always be changing a slice of bread in the brown sugar? Not me! So this cute, food-safe terracotta hummingbird "tile" helps to keep our brown sugar nice and soft. Just submerge in water for 15 min, dry-off the outside, and plop into the closed container of brown sugar. Says it keeps the sugar moist for 3 months, but I would say it works much longer than that. Easy to refresh and keep going. All my gift recipients were very happy to have it. Looks just like the demo photos, no surprises with the quality!

Works great!
I really like how this terra-cotta keeps my brown sugar soft. And I love the design on it. I do have to re-wet it every few months. But I have a big bag of brown sugar.

It really works!!!
It really works!!! Keeps your sugar soft. If you have a bag that has hardened, it will soften it. Beautiful assortment of pictures on it. Great quality.

Not as picture
Not that it makes any difference to the way it works, but I was disappointed that - instead of the hummingbird as pictured - there was a teddy bear on the item I received.

Wonderful little gizmo.
Usually, I'm too lazy to review products, but these really are worth a mention. I have no idea why they work, but they do. I've just bought a second one for my "Bread Rolls" container to go with the Keeper I already use in my bread box. They definitely keep bread fresher for longer, which is very important when one lives on one's own.

Works best with an airtight container.
Hard to believe but this does work. My homemade bread, no matter whether it is rolls, loaves, baguettes or anything else, now last fresh until they are consumed. Should be used with an airtight container for the best results.

It works.
Works well but you have to make sure it doesn't touch the bread as it will make that part mouldy.
