Review
I know these are dearer when you total each part together, but I found the picture quality to be better

Its okay. Not great. But good enough.
Being a long time anime fan I buy it whenever I can. I use to watch DBZ when it use to be on Cartoon Network during the 90's. I have wanted to re watch DBZ for sometime but I didn't want to sink £20-£30 on a single season so when I saw this in HMV I bought this and the second volume to see if I would still like it. I ended up enjoying the show so much I decided to give the volumes to my nephew who is getting into anime at the moment and I bought the boxsets so I guess they are good for anime fans on a budget or for those who want to give the series a try.

Part 1 of 42 -- This is really just the Orange Bricks repackaged in smaller sets (features episodes 001-007).
Feature Runtime: 182mins Approx.Aspect Ratio: WidescreenLanguages: English (DD 2.0, DD 5.1) & Japanese (DD 1.0)Subtitles: EnglishRegion: 2In terms of picture quality it's mediocre but for non-videophiles I suppose that it's not an issue as it's still possible to watch, nevertheless.

Great series but this format is a waste of money
This is not a bash at Dragon Ball Z, which is amazing. The problem here is that you can already by the whole of season 1 for 2/3 the price of buying all six of these DVD's. Save your money and by the fantastic complete season 1 instead Dragon Ball Z Season 1 [DVD ]

The real Dragon Ball Z episodes from the Saiyan/Vegeta Saga
The DVD region 1 releases of Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box are too expensive these days. That's why I only buy Japanese DBZ DVDs because these Dragon Box single volumes are affordable when you have the right equipment or settings. These DVDs usually play the first episode automatically so once you load this DVD, it does that. Don't worry the DVD menu is still there, but you can watch the episodes in Story Mode in which is the Japanese equivalent to Marathon Feature Mode seen on Funimation's DBZ Season DVDs and Blu-Rays.Dragon Ball Z Vol. 1 has the first 6 episodes (Ep01~06). It's been 5 years since Goku vs. Piccolo Jr at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament.Son Goku has grown up with his family, his wife Chichi and their son Gohan, Good times will never be the same again.Of course the true footage is there as you know it, just like in Dragon Box Region 1. However, like before the Japanese DBZ DVDs are still presented in Mono because back in the 80s and 90s Toei Animation sacrificed the original broadcast masters of anime shows by saving them in different film type so they save space.
