The ratcheting action helps with thicker branches, and extending handles operate wonderfully
I have done a LOT of lopping, as I volunteered for years with the forest service doing trail clearing. When Craftsman changed its guarantee and stopped allowing free trade-ins, AND its extending handles and handle cushions didn't stay put, I quit that brand and tried this one. The ratcheting action was something I had never experienced, and it seemed a little odd at first, but it really seems to add a lot more cutting power. It also allows you to cut big branches without having to open the handles very far, so it works great in tight quarters (as when there's a lot of crowding by other branches). What a bonus. The operation of the handle extensions is fabulous! They always stay locked in place, and they're very fast and easy to shorten and lengthen as needed, with pushbutton operation. You have five handle-length settings to choose from. I highly recommend them. Excellent design, and worth the money, to me.

Best Loppers for your buck!
These are great ratcheting loppers / lopping shears for pruning trees. I use these to trim the limbs off of overhanging trees in the spring time and are also great for cutting up small limbs into kindling for winter firewood. Their ratcheting action really helps to give extra torque and makes cutting limbs and branches very easy. I also love their extendable handles. Do wear gloves and use caution - these loppers are super sharp! They are a perfect tool for gardeners and home owners and I highly recommend them. Seller was great too. Fast Shipping! Very Satisfied!

As a feral dirt princess, if my sun hat is my crown, these loppers are my scepter
My latest idea of fun is getting lost in the woods on the family acreage and cutting down the invasive vermin with these loppers, which are so beefy and bossy they could kill a man in a blunt force trauma way. Which makes me real glad I’m pals with everybody at my rural post office because nobody called 911 when I was too excited to NOT open the Amazon box while standing in line and ringing in a stack of packages for the family biz. My girl Cyndi Loppers came in the mail yesterday, I woke up this morning feeling like I’d been hit by a truck because I went so hard on the garage, but I ignored my body trying to tell me “don’t even THINK about ripping a single privet sprout out of the ground today, heaux” and went nuts on some honeysuckle and burning bush anyway because Cyndi is a BLAST to use. Also used her to unshackle a recently discovered lady American persimmon tree from some monstrous vines weighing her down, liberating her so she is free at last to make delicious Woods Candy without threat to life and limb. I definitely still need to find my perfect hand pruners that also make me feel like the main character in a magical girl anime, battling my invasive Asian plant nemesis in the name of my native wildflowers, gaining Michelle Obama arms along the way as I throw their corpses into brush piles, because the ratcheting mechanism is a little slow and overkill for the smaller diameter trash. But, whatever, doesn’t matter, because I can definitely count on Cyndi to shatter the windshield of a cop car in a riot should the need ever arise. Not even mad about all the privets and honeysuckles too big for her and on terrain too unsafe for the ol chainsaw, because I already sold my dad on getting an herbicide gun+cordless drill to give those big bosses lethal injections with zero effort, so everything she can’t handle will be taken care of with a pending magical anime girl weapon. Excellent tool A+ 10/10 I feel powerful everytime I hold these loppers in my hand, and the purple phlox going to be more powerful for it. Finally, dear reader, kill your heavenly bamboo/nandina bush and peer pressure your neighbors into doing the same by asking them if they love their ornamental garbage bush more than they hate mosquitoes and not poisoning birds.

Secure when extended. Lops with ease.
I received a Garret Wade Heavy Duty Ratcheting Bypass Lopper. What I like about this ratcheting lopper is I can cut thick tree and shrub branches easily without having to create force with my shoulders, arms, wrists, or hands. Because the lopper's handles are extendable, I can cut overhead branches I could not otherwise. Saves bending my back on low shrubbery too. The handles are very easy to extend and lock securely in place; there is no worry that the extended handles will slide or move mid cut. The body of the tool is lightweight but the cutting blades are heavy, so you trade weight for imperfect balance. I'm a petite human and need tools to be light, but find myself fighting to keep the lopper in position when working with branches above my shoulders because the heavy blades, due to gravity, want to point the tool down. But had I bought a heavier-bodied lopper, I might not have been able to lift it at all. The lopper feels sturdy, cuts easily and cleanly, extends and retracts easily, and looks good. The tool allowed me to accomplish what I intended in my yard and garden and I feel the quality exceeds the price. My husband also found the ratcheting lopper easy to use. Since this is a Garrett Wade lopper, replacement blades are available. I recommend this lopper.

Excellent Loppers - Excellent Customer Service
These loppers look and appear to be perfect for the job. We thought we had found the perfect pruning tool for small, 3/4" to 1 1/4" dead branches. We used them once last November 2019 when they arrived. No problem, they cut perfectly. Then the loppers were unused during the winter. This week, 4/13/2020 we brought them out for use again. Used them a second time on 4/13/2020, again nothing but perfection. Then on 4/14/2020 during the third use EVER, the blade broke on a small 1 inch dead branch. A huge chip fell right out of the center of the blade. Disappointed? Absolutely. But I thought no problem, Kings County Tools is the manufacturer and Amazon is the seller, I'll just write Amazon. But to my demise, Amazon is no longer selling this item. I suppose I have no options at this point. I've written to Kings County Tools but have not received an acknowledgement or reply. In summary, be wary. The price point is the highest, yet the strength and durability is UNACCEPTABLE! 3 uses and it's useless. If Kings County Tools responds, I'll update this review. I've also written to Amazon but passing the buck seems to be the process thus far. Denny-Disappointed in Arizona! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 6/18/2020 UPDATE TO MY ORIGINAL REVIEW After I reported my broken blades to Amazon, and in turn to Kings County Tools, I was contacted by Kings County Tools. They apologized for the problem and asked me whether I wanted a new set of blades or an entirely new pair of loppers. I told them new loppers. A few days later, much to my surprise, I received a brand new pair of loppers. There isn't any better customer service than that!! Thank you Kings County Tools for handling my problem. When ordering tools in the future, I'll go to Kings County Tools first. I just referred my friend and neighbor and she is ordering a set of the anvil loppers as well!! For more than ten years
I have had to trim the water spout branches from our Transparent Apple 🍏 Tree. It is quite aged so it has branches that span 20 feet diameter. My previous pruners were the one length, read short, pruners many times tightened and rehoned. Always before I was maneuvering the robust aluminum ladder in the household underneath the tree to access those spouts in the center. I am 75, so pruning on a ladder is not my favorite thing. But with this 42" extension It was possible to keep the ladder on the perimeter of the tree. I needed only to reach the extended pruners for several limbs from the ground in the center. I agree with others that some sense of doubting about the extended arms being able to snip larger branches when held at the end, so just don't do that. The three levels of leverage ratcheting built in helped to answer this problem when I ran up into it. I also appreciated the corrugation grip on the face of one jaw which grips a limb against slipping from the bypass sheer. Lastly, the extension functions smoothly on both arms with numerous "stop" locations. I started on the grape vinyard yesterday. I will no longer be reaching overhead for most of the trimming, operating this tool from about waist high in the extended fully mode. I was disappointed that the shipping price break was such that the freight break at $70.00 nearly doubled the cost of the replacement sheer so I opted out. The grape vines have high tinsel wires along 70 foot row, and sure enough I rent a small ding in the sheer in the first hour. Still works fine I just know that it is there. Great tool.

Thrilled to find pruners with ratchet action!
I love these geared pruners! I received my new pair a couple of days ago and went right to work. They are real workhorse pruners! They reduce the effort it takes to cut through thick branches by using smaller increments to create better leverage. I used to have a similar pair that I loved for about 15 years. I cannot express how thrilled I am to find a replacement for those. Another excellent feature is the push-button extension. Twist extensions just don’t seem to stay but these do.

Loppers That Don't Smash Your Knuckles
With the COIVD lockdown gardening is more therapeutic than ever this year. I took to trimming the trees and bushes with my old legacy style loppers. You know the kind, no ratchet, short handles, and worst of all you slam your knuckles together every time you clip something. A quick search online found the Kings County ratcheting loppers. When they arrived I took them out to a field we just had mowed and was full of Buckthorn and Summac stumps. I extended the handles and went to work cutting off the stumps. This thing works great. I don't have to bend down to reach the stumps. The jaws open wide enough to get around large stumps. But the best feature is the ratcheting cutter. Even on the largest stump just three quick strokes and it is cut off cleanly. I then tried them out on the trees. The extended reach allowed me to trim branches that previously required a step ladder. Again the ratchet system allowed me to trim branches I would have used a chainsaw on before. They do take a little getting used to. I was so used to simply forcing the cut with my old loppers that I tended to do the same with these new ones. Instead of relying on the ratchet system I would just brute-force my way through the cut. Don't do that. Use the ratchet or risk bending the handles. I came close a couple of times before I remembered to just use the ratchet system. Bottom line. These are the best garden purchase of the year.

Great value
Excellent muscle saver, for Seniors with lots of pruning. The mechanical ratcheting advantage takes on the larger limbs with ease. Great tool.

This is a great anvil lopper, but do not try to make it cut items which are too thick!
Purchased this very same anvil lopper I purchased possibly 10 years ago, or more. It was very easy to use, & was a great tool until the ratcheting stopped working in 2021. It simply would no longer clamp down & cut through anything. It took me almost 2 years to find a replacement. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong places. I would recommend this lopper to anyone doing arbour or bush trimming but warn not to try to cut anything too big, or you may run into the same problem I did. I blame myself for damaging the lopper. Would like to know from vendor if the damaged one I have can be repaired?
