Cold Steel MAA Lance Point Spear,Black

Cold Steel has definitely done itself an injustice by not making a torture test video for this lance.So, let me say a little about it: This thing is AWESOME! It's lighter than any spear I have, and so fast it's absurd. Like most lances, it is not bladed. Instead it has a triangular shaped head, which is both very sturdy, and has the added benefit of creating wounds that are unlikely to close, when the head is withdrawn. This shape also makes the head capable of penetrating things that flat, bladed points could not.As far as it's sharpness, I sincerely feel like I am wielding a super long needle. If it can be punctured by steel, this lance will go through it with barely any resistance at all. I usually test against plastic bottles filled with tap water, as these are both sturdy, and firm. Plastic is clearly harder than flesh, and the weight of the water helps hold the bottle in place, while making it a bit more solid. This thing is so sharp, it went entirely through in a single thrust, and I felt NOTHING. I seriously thought I'd missed, at first.So in summary:If you want a light war lance for whatever reason then get this one.

This lance spear will go right through a "thick mass" with surprisingly little pressure. The system for attaching it to the handle could be better.

Nobody really needs this lance... I maybe if you are a re-enactment person, but even then, this thing is pretty serious. I wouldn't want you coming at me with it. But I love it!Everything is nicely made and sturdy. The lance has a great point and the taper fits really well. You could spent a little time with a stone or fine file and get a sharp edges on the blades if you wanted.As for the people complaining it broke because they insist on throwing it at trees and such - STOP IT. This thing is not and never would have been intended to impact a tree. Lances mostly used from horseback as a type of shock trooper to break enemy formations or pierce armor. As such, more often than not, the lances would break upon impact.If you want to practice with it, use it on water jugs, melons, or foam archery targets.

This arrived 2 days after I ordered it and that's with the free shipping rate too. I followed the instructions I found in the reviews on Amazon for this weapon when it was time to mount the head onto the provided shaft. Gorilla glue really does expand! I'm betting that this expansion helped to fill in the voids between the spear head and the wood. I have yet to use the provided attaching screws but I am confident in the gorilla glue job that I did lasting through the most abusive regiment of zombie pacification that I could survive. This is truly a dangerous tool with such a perfectly engineered head for punching through hard targets. Thank you Amazon!

This thing is a beast! I roughed up the end of the shaft with sandpaper, then used gorilla glue and slid the head on, followed by some heavier duty screws (the ones that come with it are pretty weak.) I just tried it out on a thick plastic water jug, followed by a piece of plywood and then sheet metal. In every instance, it punched through without a second thought and barely any effort. This thing is a killer, and the tip is sharp as all get out. It's fairly light (which I like), but it is solid as a rock. If you want something for zombies or, well, anything that needs stabbed really, you won't find a better spear. A+++++

This thing is truly bad *ss. But of course it is. Cold Steel made it. I would’ve given five stars if it had come with a flush fastener (came with none) and a functional sheath.I bored out the hole to a much larger diameter and ran a hardened, stainless bolt held by a locking nut and ran it all the way through as my pictures show.Their directions suggested using wood screws on each side of their smaller hole which would not stand up to nearly as much vigorous use.I’m thinking of finally learning how to use Kydex plastic to mold it into a sheath. Can’t be that difficult to learn and do well. And this thing is simply too sharp and too dangerous to use as a walking stick with that beastly tip exposed.What a fine lance tip they’ve produced. If you took it back to any time into battle scenarios where the lance was essential, any warrior wielding this would’ve been more confident the moment he put it in his hands.The shaft they provide was sculpted quite well to receive the tip — sufficient for practice. But I intend to find a much harder wood to mount this thing on so the shaft is worthy of the business end. Tempted to use a Japanese bo I have but it’s an heirloom.If anyone who reads this fairly soon knows how to make a sheath for it from plastic, I would welcome your input.Finally, I’m going to get a steal rivet to hold it in place for less protrusion and a flusher fit into the sheath I apparently have to make or have made.

I paid way less for this here than iw ould have on cold steels website. And while the screw that came with it, to attach the head to the shaft, is a bit weak, the rest of this spear is strong. The head is a solid chunk of steel, and the shaft is seemingly good quality wood. Mine was slightly warped on arrival but it was easy to strighten out just with a bit of pressure over the course of a week. I paid almost double this for a Shinwa yari and that thing was a peice of junk. This spear, for this price, is amazing.

Cold steel got this lance point right but my staff/wood was warped, no problems at all Cold Steel had another one shipped to me at no charge. Very happy with this as now I have an extra pole that I cut out the warped part and use for other things. Cant go wrong with this one backed by Cold Steel.
