Freaky Folklore is a fascinating collection of folklore from around the world. It includes tales from all continents except Antarctica. Each entry starts with a description of the monster or cryptid according to legends and then is followed by a short story about the creature. It includes everything from Mothman here in the states to the Jiangshi in China, from the banshee in Europe to the Moehau from Maori folklore, and many, many more creatures. Each entry is also accompanied by a beautiful illustration.I love how this book pairs the descriptions of the creatures with spooky stories. The stories are short enough and have the right atmosphere to make great tales to read aloud around a campfire. I also appreciated that the author wrote the stories in their local contexts. It gives the reader a tiny window into different cultural traditions as well as the creatures themselves.If you're a fan of cryptids and folklore, I would definitely recommend checking this one out.

I bought this as a birthday gift, and everyone who was on hand when the guest of honor received it completely geeked out over the subject matter, the illustrations, and the beautifully embossed cover. I'll likely buy one for myself when I get a chance.

I LOVE this book. The descriptions and artwork are simply wonderful. I enjoyed every cryptic and learned of a couple new to me ones. Don't stop the awesomeness.

Darkness prevails is my #1 favorite podcaster! This book was fun, informative, and creepy. A must read for all horror, cryptid, and folklore fans.
