One of the best books on a George Romero film
The 1985 film "Day of the Dead" does not get respect from many fans, but this book will help one appreciate it more. Filled with many color pictures and interviews with much of the cast and crew, this book now gives many "behind the scenes" details on its shoot and production history as well as giving insight as to the end of the Laurel films/George Romero relationship. Many of the films "effects scenes" are also talked about (& pictured) as well. A great companion to the Shout blu-ray!

Fitting Document for a Masterpiece
I am a big fan of production books. I love The Jaws Log and last year's You've Got Red On You and this one hangs with them both as some of the best documentation of a film's production. It's exhaustive but never exhausting to read, which is a feat for this kind of book. A must for any Romero/zombie fan.

every dead has its' day: great book!
the making of george romero's day of the dead by lee karr is wonderful. like many such books, this one is a labor of love, and the author even shares a picture of the birthday cake his mother made him for his fifteenth birthday with dr. tongue drawn in icing. exhaustively and lovingly researched, karr has been given access to the archives of greg nicotero, tom savini, and others. He puts together the evolution of day from george romero's epic first vision, to the small, more personal, darker and more beautiful, final product (i'm super glad we got this one).as with any good making-of book, it's great fun to read about the goodwill of the cast and crew, its' inventiveness and tirelessness, and the hardships of working down in that mine. but there's also plenty of tales of conflict and disagreement, largely surrounding producer david small (who comes across as a little arrogant and self-important, and who clearly has no love--or respect--for romero), and director of photography michael gornick, who was in the midst of ending his working relationship with george romero, and not in overly amiable fashion. also, tom savini and his exploits are well-recorded, entertaining and telling.filled with wonderful interviews--all the cast and crew, pretty much--incredible photographs (see a gaylen ross visiting the set), annotated filming schedule, and just endless amounts of day of the dead esoterica, lee karr's making of day of the dead is a fabulous, informative, entertaining examination of romero's wonderful, occasionally overlooked classic.

Worth reading if you are a fan
If you, like I, are a fan of this particular entry in the Romero zombie trilogy, then really, you have to add this book to your library. Most of the major "how they did it" points will be well-familiar already to most fans, but there are some new things to learn. The author takes you through a virtual day by day account of the filming (A "Diary of the Dead," if you will -- sorry, had to do it). Certain members of the cast and crew don't come off particularly well, and you'll finish the book somewhat surprised that this movie actually got made.An enjoyable, if not in places particularly well-written account of, IMHO, the second-best movie of the trilogy (after NOTLD, of course). Again, if you are a fan of this movie, get this book.

A must for Day of the dead fans!
If you are a hardcore "Day of the dead" fan and must know everything about the movie, no matter how big or trivial the information may be, than this book is for you. If you are a photo hound and must view every possible picture from the movie, whether they be action shots, behind the scenes, publicity shots, etc, etc, etc, this book is more than satisfactory in that department. Author, Lee Karr has done an amazing job on this book. I cannot thank him enough for his hard work. The number of pages that is listed for this book in the Product details is incorrect. The Product details states that the book has 288 pages. The book actually has 224 pages.

perfect companion to film. Juicy!
I can go on and on about this book because it is just that good. However I don't want to say any spoilers so suffice it to say that if you know every frame of this film as I do this book will be a true revelation. Especially the juicy stuff from the set. I can imagine a more thorough retelling of the making of this film and it's a perfect companion piece and makes you want to see the movie again. It's also very very well written unlike this review.

Loving it!
I thought I knew everything about the making of this movie. I was wrong. The author clearly did his homework. This book is well written and extremely enjoyable to read. I am very happy with my purchase and I would like to congratulate the author Lee Karr for writing an amazing book and what should/will be considered as the bible, or the go-to book, when it comes to future debates and discussions about this film.

The definitive word on Day of the Dead
This is the definitive word on Day of the Dead, a film which has gone somewhat under the radar by comparison to it's two predecessors (Night of the Living Dead, and Dawn of the Dead), which routinely get the lion's share of the attention. Much has been written about Night and Dawn, but not so much about Day - until now. The author writes with an involving sense of passion, and his research has been exhaustive - every aspect of the film is covered and there's a huge wealth of revealing, candid, and warm interviews with innumerable members of the cast and crew. The book is also filled with fantastic behind the scenes photos. Highly recommended for fans of Romero, of the film itself, and of 80s horror cinema in general. A thoroughly enjoyable must-read!

I remember discovering this movie when I was around 12 or 13 years old and it bloody terrified me. Over the years I have come to appreciate it more and more. As an avid fan of the trilogy of the dead I used to frequent Homepageoftheded when I was a senior in high school. Maybe daily! I wanted to learn more about this movie, and like its official documentary, it rocks. I was very happy to learn that the writer is also the person who hosted homepage of the dead. Gotta give it five stars. It is DOTD AFTER ALL
Obviously this is an awesome read for people who love trilogy of the dead. This book does go into detail about the production, however, so be ready for that.
