A reasonably priced, exceptional bidirectional scan tool for techs and hobbyists alike
Whether you are a Do-it-Yourselfer or a professional technician, you’ll find the VD70 packed with features you would find on a scan tool costing much more. I’ve been using the VD70 for several weeks and have found it to be an exceptional tool for diagnosing automotive system issues. First of all, the tool is built into a rugged tablet that feels like it could survive a fall without damage. It arrives packed in a sturdy hard-shell case that also contains the comm cable to the OBD port on the vehicle, a USB-C charging cable, and a charger with a selection of AC adapters for different countries. There is a quick-start guide included. The VD70 is also charged through the OBD cable so there is no chance it will run out of power during use. The first time you power the tool you’ll be prompted to set up a free account via a wireless connection to the Internet. When you register the product, you’ll receive a free 3-year subscription for updates. When I selected the update button on the tool, I was presented with 33 updates that took about 28 minutes to complete. You will set up the language, units, and other customizable parameters per your preference. I downloaded the full user manual into the tool which is then accessible by touching an icon inside a menu. The tablet has about 40GB of storage available for reports, photos, and other things you might want to save during diagnostics. You can add an optional endoscope later that will allow you to see what the scope sees right on the tool’s screen. There is a built-in camera. When you connect to the vehicle, the VD70 grabs the VIN, make, model and mileage. I had to replace the battery on one of my vehicles and was able to easily reset the battery monitoring system after installation. This device can access and control so many systems on vehicles. I ran a full automatic diagnostic on my car and it accessed hundreds of nodes and actuated an array of devices such as door locks, AC, speakers, headlamps, etc. and reported back on all the modules it could find. The scan was comprehensive, and it took about 10 minutes to complete. It identified several items of concern that I could then follow up with individually. Every item that is run during the automated testing can also be controlled manually. I like that fuel injectors can be disabled individually by the tool to verify their effect on how the engine if performing. Because you can control so many devices with the tool, you can make easily decisions on whether a component is functioning as it should. There is a recording feature that can be used to save live data and later overlay it into a graphing format with several monitored channels. Reports can be saved and transmitted via email or presented as a PDF. There are dozens of features I have yet to try out. Key programming, TPS monitoring, ABS bleeding and oil reset are just a few of the capabilities of the VD70 that I plan to use soon. About the only feature I did not find and would like to see included in a future version would be topology mapping. However, at this price point I feel the VD70 is an excellent choice for a bidirectional scan tool.

VD70 is a great scanner!
When I was looking for a more advanced scanner, this one seemed to check all the boxes for my needs (plus a lot more). The price, the capabilities, the support and the simple to use interface. They did a good job making the software user friendly. It is also fast to get the data from the vehicle. Some of the other scanners I've used were much slower. The initial software update went smooth and quick. The auto-scan found the 3 vehicle I tried right away. The trouble codes were easy to understand and clear (although a few, like TPMS dead batteries came right back). The live data is very handy and helpful. You can even do a live graph. The special functions are really cool. You can actuate things like dampers and lights to test them independently. Although I didn't try them all, like brake bleeding and some others, the ones I used worked great. There is even key programming! I'm sure this one will be my go-to for quite a while. I'm not a professional mechanic, but I do most of my own work Even when it's a job for a professional, I want to know as much as I can before I go see them.

Bidirectional Scan Tool that can read codes AND control actuators and settings
This bidirectional scan tool comes packed in a very nice case along with all the cables, plugs, and chargers you will need. I was pleasantly surprised by the large number of languages that are supported. Setup consists of choosing the language you want and then setting up a wifi connection. Updating the tool and installing all the latest vehicle updates is recommended. When you power up the tool it will open a set of touch buttons for various functions. Pressing "Auto Scan" will cause the tool to automatically connect to the vehicle, negotiate the proper protocol, and read the VIN and other vehicle information. You can then automatically scan for any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), and if any DTCs are found, pressing the corresponding button will take you to diagnostics for that code. The vehicle I was testing had an EVAP and an oxygen sensor issue, see the photos for the steps in reading those codes. To investigate the oxygen sensor issue I selected a custom set of sensors to monitor and directed the tool to display the data as a graph, as shown in the attached photos. Being able to select which sensor data is displayed is a huge benefit, you can watch relevant data without having to scroll through pages of unrelated data. The tool can read Live Data so you can monitor selected sensors and functions as the car is running. This is useful for diagnostic testing and allows you to try making a change and immediately seeing the impact on vehicle behavior. The tool also reads the Freeze Frame data, the "snapshot" of sensor data recorded when a DTC is set. This allows you to see what was going on at the time the DTC was set. This tool also has bidirectional capability, so it can control actuators on the vehicle as well as program keys, reset TPMS, bleed ABS brakes, etc. Note that some of that capability is dependent on the car, and if the car does not support a feature the tool obviously cannot control that feature. This is more of an issue on older cars, anything 2010 or newer should be fully supported. The manufacturer has a great webpage that will tell you exactly what functions are supported on which vehicles, so you can check this before buying if you want. This is a very capable tool and will perform nearly any diagnostic testing and control for most vehicles. It's priced to be affordable for home mechanics but is capable enough to be the main diagnostic tool in a pro shop.

Awesome tool!
The VD70 is amazingly fast. Hands down the best diagnostic tool I have used. Connected flawlessly to my WiFi. I have been having trouble with my one vehicle and with this it helped me solve my issues. I like when you have a fault code you can click on it and it will open a web browser to further assist your diagnostics. The screen is big and easy to read. The VD70 feels fantastic in your hands perfect weight and size. The tool is easy to work and also has an endoscope app for you to buy a endoscope which works very well with the VD70. Live data ran fantastic no lag! The battery life felt like it was never depleting when I used it like a normal tablet to play around on. When plugged into the car it does charge. Might not be wireless when diagnosing but I used wireless scanners before and they seem to be not even as close as fast as this. The seller Vdiagtool is fantastic! Fast delivery and very courteous when I email them. They get back to me within and most of the times less than a day. They were very helpful when you ask them a question. Overall the tool the case and chargers it is a very nice package. Wish I bought one sooner. The coverage of my vehicles (18’ Buick and 21’ Subaru) is amazing. I feel like I can figure any problem out when the computers are throwing codes. More the Buick. Subaru is a near perfect vehicle. Contact the seller for your coverage they will respond. Awesome company can’t wait for more innovative tools for them to come out with! Hopefully an 4 channel oscilloscope!

Excellent scan tool tons of features without the high price
I am professional auto technician over 50 years of experience & would like to leave my review how I feel about the VD-70, with a 5 star rating If you are looking for a scan tool the VD-70 is then this the one you want very impressive high tech features& very affordable price Three year free update is a great plus compared to Autel which offers one year The VD-70 has 36 special system resets VS 28 resets which Autel offers The auto scan feature works amazing well able to scan all modules in a very short time Every time I use the VD-70 I find some new features, this scan tool has a lot packed into it I would like to leave my review for the VD-70, this scan tool has a lot of features but first, The kick stand on the back is a real plus, instead of a scan tool that you have to leave laying down or try to prop up to see the screen The VD-70 loads in a short amount of time compared other scan tool I have used in the past & VIN automatic detection lighting fast One main reason I purchased the VD-70 was the ECU coding for Volkswagen which I own one& work on for others also Programming keys is a quick & easy process; The VD-70 provides pin code for the key programming Volkswagen & other European manufactures have lock out aftermarket scan tools per key ,ECU coding programming, among other features that were previously only available with factory approved scan equipment There is a lot packed into the VD-70 , able to see up to 8 graph pid,s at one time in live data& freeze frame I used the VD-70 to find a intermittent power window issue with a Chrysler minivan, ,I was able to use self test, code retrieval &the Bi-directional control on the VD-70 to roll the windows up & down & able to pin point the issue as a bad master window switch ,The VD-70 can detect difference a module communication or master switch issues Three year free update sis a great plus compared to Autel which offers one year The VD-70 has 36 special system resets VS 28 resets which Autel offers I was working a 2005 Ford F150 5.4 I was able to perform on a VCT relearn for poor acceleration , flagging the A&B camshaft sensor faults ,one feature I was not aware of on any scan tool Had a 2003 Chevy Silverado 4.3 with random misfire P0300 ,the lady had taken to various shops no one could find the issue, with the special features with the VD-70 was able to pin point with the power balance& injector performance tabs, turns out #5 is the issue had a bad distributor cap To sum it up I am very impressed with the performance of the VD-70,the best scan tool I have used I highly recommend the VD-70 for the DYI up to the Professional level Steve B.

Not worth the money
I had high hopes for this but it is nothing but confusing. I am a very techy person and this thing is NOT user friendly. I had to put in vehicle information MULTIPLE times only to have it error. It would not find my vehicle when hooked up and did not allow me to make adjustments of systems as needed. I have a Volvo so it need specific system requirements which I though this one did... nope. Once turned on, it also has a 3 year service, once that is up, you have to pay for the features to continue (it's in the fine print). Overall I had an iCarsoft and thought I would give this one a try... not worth it. All in all, not user friendly, needs the internet to work, will not find your cars info. Not happy at all.

A must have for the "shady tree mechanic" in all of us
If you're like me, and start to panic when the check engine light comes on, then this diagnostic tool is for you. The VD70 Pro. is a diagnostic scanner, it will help you as it did me, identify and troubleshoot issues with your vehicle. Initial Setup: When you turn on the scan tool for the 1st time, you will have to set it up. 1)Charge the VD70, with the included charger. It comes with the US, EU, & UK Wall Adapters. 2)Select your language 3)Set up your Wi-Fi network 4)You need to register the device, so you can update the software. You can use the unit in trial mode, without registering 6 times. For the best user experience, I recommend updating the software. When you update, you get the latest software with any bugs removed. You get 3 years of updates for free. Once the VD70 is updated, you're ready to start using it. Plug the cable (VGA To OBDll) into your OBDII port, and start your engine. I performed an "Auto Scan," which checked all my vehicles electronic systems, including engine, transmission, ABS, SRS, and more. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) can be read and reset after trouble is diagnosed and repaired. Special Functions: Bi-Directional Control, allowed me to operate components, like Power Window Motors, to troubleshoot power, switch or relay problems, is very useful. oil reset, EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) reset, SAS (Steering Angle Sensor) calibration, DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) programming, and too many more that I haven't tested. I found the scan tool easy to navigate, but a learning curve is involved. It will depend on your experience in troubleshooting. Data Logging and Playback: I took some screen-shots of the live data that was being shown, as the vehicle was running. I find this data useful, so if something doesn't seem right in the future. I can refer back to it for comparison. Expansion: You can purchase an Endoscope, which will allow you to look inside the cylinder head, at the pistons to detect and diagnose wear, carbon deposits, clogging, etc. Conclusion: I really enjoyed using the this scan tool. Unfortunately, maintaining modern vehicles is getting more complicated. Technology is advancing so quickly in the automotive field. I hope this review helps you make the right choice, for your needs.

Good Quality, Great Price
After using for several months as a diy mechanic, I have found that the VD70 is an excellent quality scan tool at a great price. I have successfully programmed immobilizer keys for Ford and Honda using the VD70. I have used the VD70 to diagnose check engine lights on many different vehicles. One Hyundai I was working on had over 20 different fault codes. I was able to quickly narrow the possibilities. It can read pretty much every sensor on any vehicle and activate every actuator which aids greatly in diagnosing vehicles. As with all scan tools, every vehicle has different sensors and capabilities, so every option on the VD70 does not work for every car. But basically if the car has the ability the VD70 can do it. I haven't had to do any ECU coding but I have no doubt in the capability of the VD70. My favorite part about the VD70 is that it saves the live data that is being monitored. I ran the live data on my niece's Honda CRV for 30 minutes and could not figure out the problem. I told her I would have to do some more research after she left. Soon after she left, I figured out what Honda calls the sensor I was looking for. I thought I was going to have to have her come back and recheck the data, but I checked the VD70 and it had automatically saved the live data that I had monitored. I was able to diagnose the problem without my niece returning because of the VD70's features. I ordered the part and was fixed the next day. Saving and emailing reports is a breeze with the VD70. I have used many different scan tools such as Autel and XTOOL. The VD70 is currently about $200 cheaper than the XTOOL D8 with all of the same software and features plus the updates are included for 1 year more than the XTOOL. The kickstand and camera are great features. I would recommend the VDIAGTOOL VD70 to anyone who is looking for a high quality bi-directional scan tool. This tool is a must for anyone who does their own auto repair. If you are able to use the VD70 for one auto repair or key programming, this tool will likely pay for itself.

Good quality and good price
Well built. Nice little kickstand on the back to prop it up while using it. Plenty of ongoing updates for the device firmware and the vehicle specific software. I have used this to successfully program an extra key for my GF's Mazda 3 and have cleared codes on my Honda Civic

Good tool, Minor issue with wifi
The ONLY scan tool known to me on the market that can recode AND reprogram batteries on E70 BMW. Not even OEM BMW scan tool could do it! INPA/P wont function, Tool32 is missing scripts for that car specifically/wont communicate properly with car etcetc. This tool? Plug in, hit BMS, recode in minutes. Can even see exchange history! Something BMW tool cannot do properly without exchanging process even if it did work! Only four stars because it wont connect to wifi. Tried 5ghz and 2.4ghz and nothing. Had to connect to hotspot on my phone and it took forever to download updates. Refuses to connect to SRS module in 2018 Civic LX, used I-HDS tool instead.
