EVEN FANTASY HAS RULES
Creative writing has rules, quite strict ones in fact, especially concerning character. When you create a character, you don't just describe their appearance, but their strengths and weaknesses too. Those attributes can only be changed when you give adequate reason for the change. Nate Garrett aka Hellequin is a powrrful sorcerer. In an earlier volume of the chronicles he added the power of necromancy - quite legitomately, but at a cost. He lost the power to perform Blood Magic, because it conflicted with his new power. Yet in three consecutive volumes Nate resorts to Blood Magic whenever he is in danger of being beaten. This goes against all the rules on character creation, and I cannot stand any more of this, so, after just 7 chapters of this volume, I'm giving up. Not just this volume, I'm not going to read the final volume. What would be the point? The stories are so similar they could have been written BY a computer, not just on one. In any case, I can guess how the series ends, from the advance blurb for the new Hellequin trilogy (due to start 21 November). Even fantasy fiction has rules, and I have no time for writers who ignore them.

Funny as Feck and compelling all the way through.
Fast and furious story line from the outset. Loving the very English humour and sarcasm that leaps out of this book. So refreshing to have a laugh at some things only a Brit would say, it makes you realise that the novels you read are not in the same league. Bought all 6 of the Hellequin novels and read them all in around 2 months, very easy to read and compelling at each and every page, a must read if, like me, you are into the likes of Feist, Gemmell, Salvatore and others of this genre.Give it a go, you WILL NOT regret it.

The adventure continues
It seems such a long time since I read the previous book In this series (book 5) and quite often I have to re-read a little just to refresh the characters before starting the new, not so with Nathan and the rest of the wonderful, colourful creations from Steve Mchugh. Again we have a well thought out story line, questions answered but many more in their place leaving you wanting more.Development of characters that I wasn't expecting and the taking of established mythology and beings which are very comfortably woven into the story, an easy read that I could happily return to.Looking forward to book 7.

There's Something About Mordred
The series, although enjoyable and well paced, is starting to get very samey. A lot of physical punches between characters and not a lot of punch for the reader. Also, Mordred. Poor lad. So in order to make it a bit better - rather than visualising someone like Tom Hiddleston's Loki (Marvel) go for Chris Tucker's Ruby Rhod (The Fifth Element). You're welcome.

Great book, disappointing audio narration
I was very disappointed by the jarring difference in style and delivery of the audio narration. Its a shame they didn't use the same narrator as the previous books, but even more of a shame that the performance turned Nate from being a sarcastic badass into a petulant fool just by different nuances and inflections. Other inconsistencies such as differing pronunciation of names, made it an uncomfortable listen and I resorted to reading in order to enjoy what was ultimately a good story.

A must read in this Series
Absolutely brilliant and twists really starting to build up the the final chapter. So much good use of the current/present/past/mythology to keep you involved and actually learn something whilst enjoying the book.

Brilliant and frequently made me laugh as I bought the audio book.
Brilliant. I really really enjoyed it, bought the audio so that I could listen whilst working. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series to find out what happens next.

Brilliant series
I am not a great reviewer,so doing it all in one.I have not enjoyed a series of books for a long time.Every book was equally enjoyable and I hope that at some point in the future the author might consider writing more.Enjoyed the characters, the relationship with each other, the constant new revellations. An excellent idea of fictional escapism of you like a battle between good and evil involving magic, sorcery, Merlin and stuff, but there's a lot more to it than that.
