The Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Time (Oxford Handbooks)

Simply THE BEST book discussing time in a philosophical and scientific context.
As a physicist, I take time for granted. It's a real number from 0 to infinity.Done deal.Or is it?The examination of the foundations of physics is very much in vogue right now. And rightfully so! Physics is up against insurmountable challenges both on the large scale of cosmology and the small scale of quantum mechanics. This has led many to if not challenge, then at least give a second look to some of the foundations, the axioms, upon which physics is built; time is one such foundation. This book is simply the BEST compilation of modern thought on time and a worthy followup to oxfords 1970's "Readings on the philosophy of time" https://www.amazon.com/Philosophy-Time-Oxford-Readings/dp/0198239998 .Lest you think that philosophy has no place in science, the chapters on relativity and quantum mechanics and how we view time in those regimes may change your mind.In short, if you are not satisfied merely asking "What time is it?" and want to explore the deeper question of "What time is", then this is the book for you!

A very useful reference resource
A varied and wide-ranging collection of essays, covering both physical and psychological aspects of time and its perception. A very useful reference resource, and good for the occasional browsing read just for fun!

Not for the layman
Don't be fooled by the fluffy dandelion on the front cover, this is no ordinary popular science book. Three stars is a bit harsh, I suppose; those with a background in metaphysics will probably delight in this weighty tome, but as a common-or-garden Linguistics PhD with a smattering of quantum mechanics, I was in way over my head. I found myself reading some of the sentences out loud in a vain attempt to grasp the meaning.

Book arrived damaged
Despite being in a box with three other books this book has arrived damaged. It is bent as if folded for some time maybe leaning badly on a shelf. Very disappointing

"Some philosophers distinguish objective time from lived time (Husserl, Merleau-Ponth, Strauss)" (S.421)
Das Buch ist recht anspruchsvoll, nichts für mal neben her lesen. Es geht um Zeit und das in allen Facetten - aufgeteilt in fünf Blöcke:1. Time and Metaphysics2. The direction of time3. Time, ethics and experience4. Time in classical and relativistic physics5.
