Guitarists of all styles, from metal and rock to jazz and acoustic, often feel the need for speed! Many players become pretty fast, and a special few become speed demons. If you want a shortcut to reaching your speed potential, Speed Guitar is the book and online video and audio combo for you! German Lightspeeder" Schauss, recognized all over the globe as one of the world's fastest guitarists, takes you through the process. Learn to warm up properly and practice alternate picking using melodic patterns across all the strings over the full fretboard of the guitar. You'll even learn how to create and vary your own patterns, and make the vital connection between your mind, picking hand, and fretting hand to enable optimal speed. If rapid-fire guitar licks, scales, and arpeggios are your goals, take this book home, go online and retrieve the video and audio, and start practicing!" Review: Are you willing to put in the time to be SICK FAST? Here is your lighter to the dynamite. - One word: SPEED. These exercises are what your first guitar teacher told you practice but multiply into 500 varients. You will become faster, more agile, your picking will be fluid and smooth with no struggle. Put in the time and you will shred. OOHHHHHH you will shred. Review: I found it was easy to follow - Ok. I received this on time. As I opened the book and glanced through it, I found it was easy to follow. German has a series of warm up techniques that you should do before you begin any of the exercises. It's perfect! They warm up excercises really do help. The lessons are organized and work in a methodical way to build your technique level and speed up. With my experience level, this book has built up my level rather quickly with my muscle memory and level of playing. The other extra bonus is the online video streaming of the examples. Instead of having a clanky DVD and needing a DVD player and video monitor, you can stream off a smartphone or iPad, placed adjacent to your book on a music stand as you practice in front of a mirror. This makes a HUGE difference in how easy it is to set yourself up to practice. I highly recommend this book if you want to learn how to play fast by learning to coordinate your left and right hand and learn good technique from German. He's an excellent and methodical instructor.

A great book for those wishing to improve their alternate picking.
I have all of German Schauss' books, but this one focuses only on alternate picking.Geraman takes the pentatonic scale and makes some very challenging picking exercises.Great ideas for the beginner to the advanced.Really is a killer book. For more on picking, legato and sweeping check out his book Shredding Guitar Workout:Heavy Metal Meets The Thinking Shredders Technical Practice.

Learning Speed Guitar
I saw this book at guitar center and was interested in getting more familiar with the notes and their location on the fret board. I am a schooled woodwind player so I read music. I am self taught on Guitar but basically know chord shapes and can follow tab. This book and the excercises are a good finger work out if the follow the on line instructions. The on line video is easy to access anywhere. The bottom line is that these are pattern exercises. You get out of it what you put in. If your into that kind of workout, it will be beneficial to your playing. The musical notes for the exercises is helping me get familiar with where the notes are on the fret board.

Five Stars
As other works by Schauss, this is a learned work on virtuoso rock guitar.

No DVD/CD, website access only for audio/visual!
I am really pissed off with this book! German Schauss is an awesome teacher but to have to access the learning material from Alfred Music is beyond pathetic! Where is my DVD/CD? Now I have to rely on some website for my study material?!?!? German Schauss I am VERY disappointed in you!

Practicar, practicar, practicar...

Classic exercises shown by one of the fastest guitarists around.
If you're familiar with speed picking, the book won't really revolutionize your approach. But it's still very interesting, because it's accompanied by a video showing Germann performing the exercises... and it's amazing.
