Evans, as always great product.
For beginners ??? don't know, you either need them or not. As always with Evans the pads do exactly as they are intended. I appreciate the larger oval size, rather than the traditional circular. Can't fault, if you need a patch, try these, I don't think you'll be disappointed ( 50+years experience of pots and pans)

Great for a mesh head bass drum on the electric kit
Bought and cut it in half to be used on my mesh bass head. Got tired of the patches constantly falling off and I’ve tried 3 different versions now. This one is still going strong so hoping I’m on to a winner!Plus, I have the other half for when it does finally give up its stickiness.

Great head protection.
I always stick one of these on my bass drum head where the beater strikes. they will wear out after considerable use, but just peel it off and slap a new one on. The adhesive is very strong and I’ve never had one come off during use. Save £££‘a on new bass drum heads. Grab yourself one!

Worn already
Three gigs and the patch is worn through already, normal use nothing heavy. Won’t buy again

PERFECT for the KD-10
After a 10-year hiatus from drums, mainly due to concerns over my neighbours, I finally bought myself a Roland TD-17 kit this year.Unfortunately, due to my heavy metal background (heel up, burying the beater), the KD-10 kick pad was marked by my beaters within 30 minutes. No other signs of wear, but with longevity in mind I immediately looked for a kick patch.Back in the day, I used Remo Falam Slam patches on my kick skins, and I saw they were highly recommended for e-kits. However, due to my not-so-heavy metal desire for aesthetics I pined for a black patch. Given the amazing price, and other great reviews, I opted for the Evans.Not only does this patch fit the KD-10 PERFECTLY, but it has taken a serious heel-up pounding for 2 weeks thus far, and remained in-tact + fully stuck to the KD-10.A+ recommended for heavy metal, electronic drummers; and drummers with an obsessive desire to keep an all-black colour scheme. :)

Great Value
A good deal, as you get two patches in a box. You probably won't need to buy any more for a few years, but you really do need these on your bass drum head - preferably an Evans EMAD. This double version easily accommodates the two beaters. Just be careful to clean the area first, mark where your beaters land, remove your pedal and then tip the drum over onto its front to apply. Press down firmly and around the edges with a sweaty old towel and you can basically forget about your kick drum for at least a year - or even two!
