Blood In My Eye was completed only days before it's author was killed. George Jackson died on August 21, 1971 at the hands of San Quentin prison guards during an alleged escape attempt. At eighteen, George Jackson was convicted of stealing seventy dollars from a gas station and was sentenced from one year to life. He was to spent the rest of his life -- eleven years-- in the California prison system, seven in solidary confinement. HISTORICAL!

A very important read
This book is not an easy, but it's very important. Although it was completed in 1970 the topics are still very relevant. As a white person I think it is essential to read black literature in order to get a true understanding of what it means to be a black person in the US. We (white people) can never know what it's like to be targeted by the police, denied basic means, or any of the other numerous examples of racial inequality simply for the color of our skin. If we want to make serious change and truly be allies we need to understand the problem. George Jackson outlines many of these issue within this book. Also LOL @ the people calling this propaganda, I think they might have missed some of the most important points of this book.

One of the most fundamental books out there
A classic, it's frightening how relevant this book still is.

This could've been written today ... it shows how little things have changed for black folks in the US. Be it policing, the 'US dept of justice', redlining, structural racism and on and on. To the people saying it's propaganda, or just some 'black panther bs'- George Jackson was very direct in telling you the material conditions of life in the US. I think y'all just didn't want to hear it. It was 'too hard' for you. Too bad. Great book, great read, took lots of notes. In conjunction with this book, I'd recommend Amie Cesaire's 'Discourse on Colonialism', and 'Wretched of the Earth' by Fanon

A Response to Supression that was justified but unlikely to work
In summary, this book wished for, without saying it, a Provisional IRA in the black community — spelling out the organization and principles. The author is justifiably angry about how the United States society worked in the 1960s and 70s (any improvements since then are clearly still insufficient). However, the Provos had a multigenerational history of violent resistance against England and wide passive cooperation within their community. It is not clear that the level of social and political unity in the early 70’s existed in large segments the black community in the U.S. The book “Say Nothing” is a good predictor of the human cost of the participants.
