Great for a small bedroom
This window unit is almost overkill for a small bedroom, but it will probably be handy during a heat wave. Installation was as easy or easier than what I recall being for the one that it replaced (a Maytag unit that I installed 20+ years ago).I do like that this unit included tape for sealing around the accordion-type extension pieces, and also has "slots" for putting in "foam core" sheets that insulate, as well. I install an air conditioner and leave it in the window forever, so it's nice to have things as weatherproofed as possible. The controls on the unit itself are fairly intuitive and easy to use. If you don't have perfect eyesight and don't have your glasses on, it's hard to read most of the writing. I can't read any of the writing on the remote w/o my glasses on, and haven't used it enough to have memorized what's what....I think the trickiest bit is the need to remember that when this unit starts up, it defaults to an econ mode, and it won't really continuously push out cool air. You need to remember to manually select the cooling only mode before you either leave the room or go to sleep. The remote seems a little weird in its layout and buttons, although that may just be me. I knocked off one star for the remote control features, for this reason.I can't give five stars for value for the money, because I just can't imagine that this one will last for decades like the old Maytag did. I actually hope that this hunch is wrong.

Came with cracked styrofoam inside the unit
I changed this review after opening the unit and running it. The styrofoam behind the fan is very thin, about 1/4 of an inch thick. It has a double layer up top, but most of it is single layer, 1/4 inch thick. It looks like it was cracked when they tried to align the upper half of the foam with the lower half. I taped the upper and lower half together, and then taped the foam to the 2 metal brackets, so the blue fan would not scrape the back wall. The fan has over 1/2 inch clearance with the front foam, but only 1/8 with the back. Why not move the fan forward, and make the back foam thicker. At R5 per inch, 1/4 inch gives about R1. There is 60 deg air blowing over the fan, separated from 90 degree air outside the unit by 1/4 inch thin styrofoam. There has to be heat transfer. The unit does blow cold air. The eco mode shuts the fan off when the condensor is off. THATS GREAT. Who wants air blowing over them ALL the time. The unit looks attractive and the paint had a nice glossy finish. It makes some noise, but I've had louder units. The louvers really don't guide the air much. If you turn them to one side, and hold your hand about a foot away, the air has moved about an inch to the side. Over 10 feet, the air would be blowing 1 foot to a side. They don't do much good. You can adjust them up, or adjust them level, but you can't move them so it blows downward. Overall I like this unit. It needs thicker styrofoam to keep the heat out, and the foam panel on the back should be connected to the 2 metal brackets with a plastic rivet and a large washer, to keep that rear wall away from the blue fan. And the top and bottom of that panel should be keyed, like the foam up top, along the front. Its a butt joint, and when it arrived misaligned, it had an opening large enough to let a wasp in, until I taped it closed. One last positive, it keeps the temp within 2 degrees. An old GE unit set at 75, would not run on until it was over 78, or turn off until it was 72. I had to constantly turn the temp up or down. That 6 degree temperature range was very annoying. Two degrees on this unit is a nice range, so the unit isn't turning the condensor on and off all the time, and its comfortable, which is why people buy air conditioners. I would buy it again, but they should redo that foam.

Very Impressed with this unit. Quiet, Great Packaging, Installation Instructions, Operating Instructions, Cools Fantastic.
This is probably one of my best purchases ever. This unit is amazingly quiet, and has a great look. Very easy to install, has great installation instructions and operating instructions.I had a old "Frigidaire" that was over 28 years old, but it had suddenly developed problems at the end of last summer--it most definitely, did not owe me anything. So I had been on the "hunt" for awhile. I went to my local hardware store "the big name" and they only had one brand--which I have heard, is a very poor quality product line. So I said to myself--I wonder if amazon sells room air conditioners--went on line and "hello", amazon not only had them, but many models and brand choices as well. Being a "Prime Member", even though this was a heavy and large package--the shipping was automatically included. This new unit is at least 2 to 3 times quieter, compared to the old unit. It has a "economy mode" which adjusts fan speed and turns unit completely on and off, as needed, that feature, I really like. It also has a lot of features I like as well besides the remote. I have another unit I am now thinking of replacing in another room, because I like this unit so well. It cools fantastic. It is a "Solid" 5 star.

this is a smart system and works perfectly
This unit is energy star rated and uses 20% less electricity while produces 20% more cooling then the old 5000 btu unit it replaced. The eco and auto fan mode really save energy as it will cycle the compressor and fan on and off as needed to hold temperature while saving maximum energy, this is a smart system and works perfectly. This AC unit is also a lot quieter then the one it replaced. Also the condensation water is used to cool the condenser and is evaporated in the process so no water dripping out the back, this feature also saves energy, very cool!
