Major problems running in Windows 10 - read this before buying
This suite and its predecessor VS X10.5 (and probably earlier versions as well) will have major problems running in the Windows 10 environment. I have Windows 10 Pro. As a work-around, VS will work if running it in Windows 7 (not 8) compatibility mode. The problem with doing that is that VS will then run VERY slowly in compatibility mode, especially when rendering DVDs and Blu-rays, whether writing to the disc itself or to an ISO file. VS will run much faster on a dedicated W7 computer. VS is prone to crashing, so unless you like starting your project all over again, saving your project is a wise thing to do. The major problem is that under W10, you cannot save and then load your saved projects. If you attempt to load a saved project, VS will just hang and you will have to kill it with the Task Manager. In addition, VS does not "play well with others." That refers to its memory management. If you are doing anything else with your computer, VS will slow down and never recover. It does not appear to manage memory usage dynamically, so it doesn't multitask very well. For better results, run only VS. For even better results, reboot and then run it (that applies even with W7 usage). If you have set up VS to write to the disc and you should happen to insert/remove anything into/from a USB port after after starting the render, VS will get lost and not find the disc, causing you to have to restart the render. When creating the disc, VS does not have a verify disc option. Thus, it's best to write to an ISO file, then burn and verify it to disc with Nero. VS creates huge temp files (25 GB) that need to be removed or you will run out of hard drive space! That needs to be done after each render. There are other issues involving text selection and cut-and-paste that have never been updated, but they are mere annoyances. I have written to Corel about these issues many times and they either ignore me or pretend that they've never heard of these problems before and ask me whether the problem is with my computer. I told them that the problems occur on multiple computers running W10 Pro, that reinstalling W10 either by upgrade or from the Microsoft W10 install disc made no difference. The original code for VS was written by Ulead (Corel bought Ulead years ago) and has not, basically, been changed. It must use subroutines Ulead wrote for Windows XP (or perhaps even W95) that no longer work in W10. Subsequent releases of VS have failed to address any of these deficiencies, only adding cosmetic changes. PowerDirector by Cyberlink (good customer service, they also make PowerDVD) is a much more powerful (and expensive) alternative but its disc rendering options are not user-friendly. So, I use both, PowerDirector for editing and VS for disc rendering. In spite of VS's problems and Corel's inability to fix it, it still remains the EASIEST option for rendering mpeg movies on DVD and Blu-ray movie discs. I do not use VS for anything else. Corel just released an update for VS 2018 that did not address any of these shortcomings. Also, if you plan to make Blu-rays, you will need to purchase the Blu-ray module for that from Corel for about $10 even if you have, like me, purchased their Video Studio 2018 "Ultimate" version.

Was able to overcome problems getting software to run
This is an update of my review of VideoStudio Pro 2018. After 8 days trying unssuccessfully to get the program to run, a Corel support person suggested the problem might be that Windows 10 or some of my drivers were not up to date. I checked and all were up to date. As I was working on that I wondered if one of the updates might be the problem. So I made the driver for the Display Adapter revert to an earlier one; right away VideoStudio started working just fine. Now that it is working I am reminded that I really like this software. I shoot and edit in 1920-1080 AVCHD format and want the picture quality of the burned AVCHD DVD to equal the raw camera images. It does. So now I'm happy with the VideoStudio software. The bottom line is: if you know enough about computers to get the software running and keep it running, or know someone who does, then I can recommend this software.

Good Software for beginners wanting to add some features into their videos
I like this software for my purposes. I wanted to make some simple videos but there are some basic things I wanted like transitions, trimming and splitting videos, adding music, fading music, etc. This has all that and way more and the interface is pretty intuitive which is a huge plus for me. There are plenty of videos and tutorials out there to help you out as well. The audio mixer is a tool I'm finding pretty cool but I wish you could manually input the numbers instead of dragging the lines for the volumes. Overall, I would say this is great for beginners just starting out on making videos, and for anyone who just wants to make a good looking youtube video without too many fancy features.
