Finally: Reliable USB 3.x Ports
Absolutely phenomenal. Completely solved the problem of my MSI motherboard constantly switching USB 3.x ports to USB 2.0. And the SATA power keeps my Quest 3 humming along.

Be sure compatible with PC hardware.
Simple installation as long as you have the correct slot in the pc.Works fine with 4 external drives.

It works
It was an easy installation. I did add a power connection as recommended. I currently have 2 permanently connected external SSD drives connected; an 8TB and a 16 TB. The system (Windows) has been completely stable unlike when I was using a UCB C hub for the two external drives.

WORST DEVICE EVER
Won't fit into my PCI-E slot. Cannot install. "Quick-Start Guide" provides NO ACTUAL INSTRUCTIONS, merely a QR code that leads back to this product purchase page. And, in the process, it scratched up my motherboard. THANKS FOR NOTHING!UPDATE: Finally got the darn thing seated in my system but, not only did it not help, it destroyed my audio. I know it's the culprit, because it's the ONLY change I made to the system, and now i have no sound from my speakers or anything I plug into my system. Additionally, though Device Manager indicates everything is working properly, the device does not recognize anything plugged into the c-ports. I'm going to smash this device with a hammer and record it for YouTube. WORST DEVICE EVER.ANOTHER UPDATE: I downloaded the driver package from their website but, when attempting to install the driver, "This driver does not support your device." Really? Windows 11 version 24H2, fully updated as of 5/25/25, and it doesn't support my device? Where's my hammer and webcam?

It works!
Mine did not install easily. Windows 11 had trouble recognizing it. I downloaded their driver's, device manager looked fine, but my usb-c drive was not seen. Un-installed it. Re-installed it, same thing. After a few minutes went back to device manager, I noticed 'unrecognized device'... I hit update driver, pointed it at the downloaded driver folder and finally got everything to work. Speeds are great and everything is working now.

Works great
Works great for adding USB-C to a computer that did not previously have it. This (as far as I know) does not give you any thunderbolt compatibility, but it does give you USB-C.

Good quality USB-C adapter for PC desktop upgrades
I feel silly reviewing Startech items, as I've used them for much of this century so far and never had a complaint. This adapter is no exception. This adapter won't give you Thunderbolt of course, but four external 10 gigabit USB 3 type C ports with 15 watts of power each, and an internal USB 2 type A port with 7.5 watts, is a great way to give a slightly older PC some extra life and expandability. The SATA power supplement from your PSU makes that 60+ watt power possible.I'm using the internal port to hold a USB drive with an OS image for emergency reinstalls/repairs, and will hang modern SSDs off the external ones. And since I'm doing this in a SFF PC, I'm glad the adapter comes with a low profile bracket , and it was fairly easy to swap out the pre-installed full-height bracket. You can get cards like this for less than the current $70 listed price, but you're probably not going to get the same speed and power.
