Why fret over the cost of test chemicals?
I use the K-2006 Taylor test kit. I have had excellent results using this test kit. If I take a sample to the pool store with their computer driven testing machine, the results of the tests will essentially be the same. I test once a day, so I go through about two containers of the powder per pool season. So, if the expiration date is 3-6 months out, that's fine. It will be gone by then. Why use two scoops? Because Taylor says that's what to use. Any water sample with free chlorine in it will turn pink with the first scoop. The test is based on using two scoops. Not 1 or 3. The reaction kinetics will be different depending on how much powder you put in. If you put in one scoop, the water will clear that much quicker when titrating. Fewer drops will mean lower level of FC. So, now you will be chlorinating your pool based on erroneous information. You have more chlorine than you think you have so you will be over-chlorinating if you go with the one scoop approach. Taylor is the industry gold standard for testing reagents and test procedures. Do what they say. I spend $500 to $800 a year of pool chemicals. The testing reagents are chump change in pool land. Follow Taylor's instructions. They know what they are doing. I have noticed the powder will turn gray as it gets older. It is taking on moisture and accuracy will suffer. Buy the 10gram container as you need it and use as fresh a test reagent as possible. Worry about how much you are spending on chlorine. Your time and energy is better spent there.

Use it to keep chlorine/bromine levels where you need them
This is a reagent for testing the water in a hot tub. Two scoops with the provided spoon go into 10mL or 25mL of sample water which then turns purple if any chlorine or bromine is in solution. The FAS-DPD test solution is then titrated into sample water containing this DPD powder to tell you how much active chlorine or bromine you have in your hot tub. It works great for my bromine system, and while this looks small, it's more than enough to test all through a tubbing season. You don't want more than you'll use within a year, these reagents are indicated as being good for one year from the date it is opened.

Legit
I like replacing the kit sizes with the bigger amounts when needed. It’s absolutely more cost effective to do so. Item works as intended.

DPD Refill for Taylor Technologies pool test kit
After years of going to pool stores for water analysis, I was frustrated with the time spent driving to the store, waiting for results, trying something they suggested, then having to repeat the same in a few days. I've had the Taylor Technologies test kit for several years and my pool has never had better control. This is a reagent refill for the chlorine test. I use this very accurate test early in the season when I'm getting the pool opened and stabilized, after that I use it every few days and test strips for quick checks in between.

Replacement Reagent
I'm guessing if you're looking at this product it's because you need additional replacement reagent. This is the direct replacement reagent for Taylor FAS-DPD chlorine testing kits. As a review, this product is a direct replacement for the one which came in your test kit. And as a product, when coupled with the FAS reagent (R-0871-A), for the price, is consistently the most accurate free chlorine test reagent available. I don't think more expensive colorimeter testers are going be consistently more accurate for pool/spa water test purposes. I base the prior statement on trying most of the available methods of testing for free chlorine and after great effort on my part reviewing alternative methods, have settled on using this method. A suggestion, if you're like me and test far to often for chlorine, buy a larger quantity of this product and refill the bottle that came with the kit yourself. Much cheaper that way. Look up R-0870-J for a quarter pound bottle of this reagent. Do the math on the delivered price vs equal amounts of these smaller 10g dispensers of DPD powder. You're looking at a savings of about eighty dollars between the two product sizes. My recommendation, buy a more expensive quarter pound bottle of DPD reagent each year so as to get the best possible price, convenience and to help maintain freshness of product as Taylor recommends replacement of all reagents at least once a year. Hope the above helps.

Good quality product.
The Taylor R-0870-I DPD Powder is good quality easy to use. My reduction of one star is because it was already 4 months into the 1 year shelf life (arrived Sept 2023, Expires May 2024).

Been using this product for a while and it works well, but this order shows up and the product expires in less than 6 months. Should give you at least a years use or more . No good .
