Fantastic keyboard for a young musician
My 13-year-old son saved up his chore money to buy this Arturia KeyLab 49 mk3, and he absolutely loves it. He’s been creating music nonstop since it arrived. The keys feel super good — more like a real piano than a cheap, fake keyboard — and that makes it even more enjoyable to play. It’s also really compact and doesn’t take up much space, which is perfect for his room. The controls are easy to use, and the included Analog Lab Pro software really opens up a ton of creative possibilities. It’s inspiring to see how much he enjoys making music with it — definitely a great investment for anyone starting out or growing their skills.

Sell your MKII and buy the MKIII now!
Previous equipment: 61 key MkII Going from the MKII to the 61 key MkIII was the best decision I have made in a long time. The key bed is why I bought it and the key bed is why I absolutely think this is right one for me. The changes they made show that Arturia have listened to the criticisms by the users. It feels to me like a perfect middle ground that should be the new standard for non piano mimicking keys. The MkII had key wobble and the black keys were slippery and narrowed too much at the top making hard to hit. I'm already playing better in just a few minutes of play. Also the nobs and sliders all have better resist to improve minor changes in adjustments. Thank you Arturia, this is an amazing product.

Keybed is garbage, but nice controller otherwise
I like the build quality and functionality, but the keyboard action is not for serious players. I'm a pianist and was hoping to use this as an organ VST controller, so I wanted a light key action. But I actually find these KeyLab keys heavier than those of my piano (which are weighted in the standard concert range). There's a continuous resistance pushing against your fingertips while you depress a key, such that it's a bit tiring to keep it held down. Also the increase in resistance as you move from the front of a key to the back is outrageous. Playing an E-flat triad, for example, is basically not going to happen, not with your thumb anyway. I do like the usb-c connectivity and the other controls it offers. I also like that my Macbook recognized the MIDI connection right away and was able to start receiving MIDI signals right away, even without any configuration or installation. But since it's primarily marketed as a keyboard, and it falls so far short of the mark there, I don't feel any additional stars are warranted.

Impressive!
Bought this for playing with hardware synths for the most part and it's perfect for my needs. Well built with a nice synth action keyboard. Seems solid and built to last.

Excellent form factor for desktop. Nice key feel. Beautiful to look at.
Since my DAW doesn't integrate super well yet (ever?... Studio One), I haven't tested the Arturia VST integrations a whole lot. What little I did was pretty glitchy in my DAW. But it's still four stars because I didn't even buy it for that purpose. What I needed was the maximum # of full sized, reasonably playable keys that could fit in the space I have available for a controller. I also needed it to be slim, because I find it really distracting to be reaching up 4 inches to the keys. A lot of small, full-size keys controllers are just too fat that way. If that's something important to you, you'll be glad to know that the surface of the keys on this unit is about 1 3/4" from the desktop. So the whole thing looks and feels sleek. A lot of us creatives are very distracted by 'ugly,' and a bit inspired by beautiful hardware. There is zero ugly here. The play experience is pretty good. I've been using real pianos and fully weighted digital pianos for a pretty long time now, so synth/semi-weighted action doesn't feel "right" to me, but it is good enough for my purposes. A word about the interface. If you're like me, you'll be initially confused by the 'Back' button. It only goes back in certain contexts and for a lot of others you have to hit Program. So navigation is a bit quirky until you get used to it. I have sent my feedback to Arturia and they were warmly responsive. The gist: people expect a 'back' button to take them to wherever they just were in all contexts. Hopefully we see that smoothed out a bit in a future firmware update. But it's really not a problem for me since I usually just turn it on, hit the main encoder to go into DAW mode and start playing (after running the appropriate software of course).

Excellent MIDI Keyboard Controller
The Arturia KeyLab 61 mk3 Black - 61 Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller with Analog Lab Pro Software is excellent. I bought it used and did not expect a great keyboard. It is well worth the money, especially with the Analog Lab Pro software. I had to reset everything on the keyboard. But after resetting everything, it was excellent. Everything functions as advertised. I highly recommend this Arturia MIDI keyboard controller.

The missing piece in my keyboard rig
Great product. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another hardware synth. The Keylab 61 Mk3 complements my Juno-X Roland as tier 2. Analog Lab V includes a lot of great synth sounds, and simplifies my Roland patches. The Keylab integrates well with Ableton as a plug-in, and I have multiple options for live or studio laptop control and routing. As I was setting up Arturia playlists I started to notice that Analog Lab is weak on acoustic instruments like horns and sax, but I guess that’s what the Arturia Store is for!
