Don't Let Go: A Novel

I just got this, so I won't give away plot points---Coben is a wonderful author; I get into his books, and can read for an hour non-stop. His plots are great, his characters are real, and I find his writing style addictive. Pleasure to read!

Love the book, but it’s falling apart. I’d like to return it, but I missed the return window by a few days.

If you know me at all you are probably wondering “why is she even reviewing this? She loves Harlan Coben so this will be at the lowest 4 stars.” Because I want to, that’s why! J It has been awhile since I went straight on back to my wheelhouse of reading mysteries and thrillers that I can just get lost in and I needed the comfort of one of my favorites. Mr. Coben has never disappointed me, ever.This is a standalone novel which I personally wouldn’t mind seeing as the start of a series. Napoleon Dumas is a great character and will go down, second only to Myron Bolitar, as one of my favorite Coben characters. He is smart, funny, flawed, and as always, a totally relatable character that you love. Nap is darker and more troubled than Myron and if you’ve read the Myron series, Nap is his own Win.What I love about this story is that I had no idea what was going to happen and every chapter had a new theory popping into my mind. I was along for the ride with Nap and the realization hit me at the same time it did him…I felt his shock. I also enjoyed the fact that this story was based around true events that happened in Harlan Coben’s hometown. This gave the story even more depth and excitement.

Isn’t high school supposed to be a time of unforgettable memories and friendships; witness high school reunions; what other institutions come close? But is this accurate? Alongside maturing physically and mentally, there is an awful lot of stupidity, meanness, and ostracization. In this story, a group of high school kids in a small New Jersey city were big pals some fifteen years prior; but suddenly one night two of them mysteriously wind up dead and another disappears. This story essentially uncovers the reality.Nat Dumas, thirty-three and now a detective, lost his twin brother that night and it was his girlfriend who disappeared. To say that he has been obsessed with that night for fifteen years is an understatement. And then Nat gets a knock on his door. One of those kids from years ago, also a policeman, has been killed execution style. Can this really be a coincidence? So many from a small group dead or missing? Nat starts pressing people like never before. It turns out that bits of information have been held back all these years. The problem is that what he may find may be as disconcerting as the original episode.Definitely one of Coben’s better books. Interest level stays high throughout. Couple of compelling characters. He even brings back Myron Bolitar for a cameo appearance on a school playground.

It was great writing, but the story was very drawn out for the ending. He could have made it more complex, but it was an okay. Read not as exciting as I thought it would be. But the language and the text is well read, and it makes it worth really, but it's just an average

"Don't Let Go", like all of Coben's books, is an easy, engaging read. For while his plots may be convoluted in the way most thriller plots are, they are also clear, with easily delineated story lines, and easy to track main characters. Coben never relies on the tricks of lesser authors- no characters with names so similar that they become hard to track, no backward-forward-backward time jumps, no chapters of texts/messages...just solid wordsmanship and an interesting, original plot.Even given all of these plusses, I had to deduct one star for the large plot hole that is left unfilled. The main story line is wrapped up by the end of the book, but, the secondary plot is left unresolved, even if the big questions of "why" and "what" are resolved.Still, overall a very enjoyable way to spend time reading, and I loved the cameo by Bolitar.

Wow, I am an avid reader, with just over 3000 titles I my Kindle app....I found this author 2 weeks ago, and this is my 5th read of his in that amount of time. Every one keeps up at night reading, I read him at work, anytime I can. Amazed at his twists and turns...truly a delight

I like most of Coben’s work but there have been a few that I thought that were subpar. But this is a serious look at several serious issues.

This was the first Harlan Coben I've read, though I've been aware of his books for a while but never got around to actually reading one.It's clear he's mastered his craft thoroughly and is sure-footed in his plotting, and the dialogue is sharp, crisp, to the point and believable. It's a page-turner, no doubt, and I've really enjoyed reading it, and when I had to put it aside when the outside world required me to, I did so reluctantly, which is a sure sign that a novel is doing its job, and it's author has done this before.I expect I'll read another Coben, maybe more than one, but I also have the slight feeling that when I do so, certain narrative similarities between his books may emerge, like he's whipping up a slightly different dish each time by using the same ingredients but in a different order and in different quantities. That said, I expect I can enjoy that experience just as much on future occasions, as long as this dish is this tasty.

Excellent read! I had a hard time putting this book down. I'd get to the end of a chapter and would just *have* to keep going. It grabs hold from the start and keeps up a steady pace through to the end. I think if you aren't already a Harlan Coben fan that this book would certainly make you one.

'Don’t Let Go' was an incredible page turner, which I expected as I love Harlan Coben and devoured this as I have his many others. However I really think this was a cut above the rest (and that's a high bar!) The story was captivating, never a dull moment, and the characters were all well developed as was the plot.Fifteen years ago, Leo and Diana were struck by a train. Were they playing a sick game that went wrong?; was it bad luck?; or something more sinister? Detective Napoleon, (Nap) Dumas wants to know why his twin brother, Leo, died. The same night, Nap’s girlfriend, Maura disappeared. Especially as now her fingerprints have appeared in another murder scene and the victim is yet another classmate.This is such a great mystery it kept me swiping into the early hours of the morning and I didn’t figure out all the connections until the very end. Nap is a good character you can’t help liking him and rooting for him to solve the old mystery even if the resolution is much darker than he anticipated. In fact, Coben based this book on true events that happened in his hometown which makes this his most believable and realistic to date.Coben has delivered intrigue and suspense but also added in a dash of humour which he is known for and romance which makes this a comprehensive read.'Don’t Let Go' is a stand-alone thriller I would recommend to anyone who likes a good mystery it's actually pretty amazing... I found it impossible to put down. Highly recommended.
