but wasn't happy with the results
I use this mostly to repel deer ticks in NY. My dog has already gotten deer ticks in her lifetime, and I guess she was exposed to Lymes disease at some point because she always tests positive for it - though I've learned that once they have been exposed to the disease the test will always detect antibodies for the disease even if they aren't displaying any symptoms. I used to use Frontline Plus, but wasn't happy with the results. t heard the Vectra3D works better than Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix, so I switched. So far I have pulled two ticks off my dog in the middle of a blood meal. These ticks were near the ears where there was no application though. I have also found a tick scampering on the floor of my kitchen and my bedroom near where my dog sleeps, so I would say some ticks who latched on during an outdoors walk decided to abandon ship after they came in contact with the Vectra3D.I would say that the application method should be modified to include from between the ears, down the neck, down the back to the tail, and from the shoulders down the legs, and optionally from the rump down the rear legs. This stuff goes on clear like a gel, but dries and isn't too greasy. I have a westie and her coat only gets a little oily looking. It supposedly coats the skin and lasts a month, but I think by the end of 4 weeks if it's still working it is definitely time for a re-apply.I really like the applicators, much nicer than the Frontline ones. It has a little ball tip that parts the hair easily and doesn't scratch the skin as you squeeze the gel out. I'm a little concerned that the instructions suggest washing your hands after application and caution against skin contact - I mean, I am intentionally putting this on my pet, but they are acknowledging that it is a dangerous substance.

Works as described
I've been using this product on my mini goldendoodle for almost 3 years now, and I've had a good experience with it. I've never had an issue with either fleas or ticks, and I live in an area that has both. I'm also not great at applying it at the same time every month, but my dog still has had no issues, so it seems to last longer than 30 days per application for him. Sometimes my dog wants to rub against furniture right after application, presumably because there's a slight unpleasant sensation, but after I discourage him for a couple of minutes, he's fine. The application site is a little oily and has a slight odor for a couple of days, but that goes away either on its own or with a bath. In terms of bang for your buck, I think this is a great deal, and I'm more comfortable using this than an ingestible.

Works better than ingestable meds
Unlike NexGard and other flea and tick preventatives that your dog eats, the ticks don't have to bite to die and it reduces mosquito and black fly bites. I am in Maine, which is mostly wetland and has a ton of ticks and biting bugs. We tried NexGard and the dogs would drop live ticks all over the house, and the population didn't decrease at all. We had used Vectra 3D for years, but switched when the vest offered the edible as it is easier, but my dogs also vomit from it.Some people worry that the topical doesn't work if the dog gets wet. Nope -- if you check the product site, you need to keep your pet out of the water for 6 hours, 24 being better, but the if they go swimming it isn't a big deal. My dogs go kayaking and jump in a lake often, and it is still the most effective product we have used. Yes, it leaves an oily stripe the first day after application, so I brush them well the day after and you would never know they had a topical application.

Works great!
We recently switched to Vectra after a family member suggested it. They live in a heavily wooded area full of ticks, and have had no issues with their dogs. We live in a suburban area, and our dog had at least two ticks on him last year. We have been using Frontline for years, but after seeing ticks, it was time for a change. We've been using Vectra for about 3 months now, and haven't seen a single flea or tick so far. We take our dogs camping a lot during the summer, so a good flea and tick preventative is important. I also like that this doesn't leave a chalky white residue after it dries.Edit: We've been using Vectra for over a year and a half now and still no fleas or ticks on either dog! We've now added a third dog (Corgi) to our home and will be sure to order some for her too. It's well worth the money.
