I bought this as a gag item and novelty addition to a costume. But, HOLY MOLY this thing really works!Firstly, construction: Nicely crafted of real metal with a matte finish. Lightweight but sturdy. Soft rubber tips ensure you cause no discomfort when putting the end in your ear.And if you're actually a bit hard of hearing, you're going to want to do that! It provides a shockingly clear, crisp, and loud improvement to the sounds around you. Muted conversation is suddenly bright, clean, clearly understandable.Yes, you're going to get "looks" when you employ it. If you're in costume, or just whimsical, you aren't going to care. But for a few bucks, this thing does was a hearing aid of MUCH more than that costs. You're just going to get labeled as "eccentric" (or worse) if you happen to whip it out at the next board meeting! *grin*

People have been after me to get a hearing aid. This “novelty” is quite well made, and does in fact amplify sounds, to make them a bit more hear able, The tone is predictably tinny, and this old fashioned item allows you to laugh while hearing a little-provided you have a free hand to hold on to it!!

This is hilarious, and I got a lot of laughs from my family and friends. More importantly, it does help with hearing. I can actually hear through it. I only wish it came with a chain that I could wear it around my neck to carry it with me places. It's made very well to last. It's very light. It seems as though it's made with spun aluminum. The earpiece is soft rubber and it feels very comfortable resting inside the ear. I recommend it.
