The first worthy Spider-Man game
In a family of gamers, we play a lot and test a lot. I'm (the father) play exclusively on PS4/3/Vita while my sons are a mix between PC and Playstation. This Spider-Man game is perfect. Open-world (I love all things Horizon Dawn, Assassin's Creed, Just Cause, Farcry, ...), beautiful graphics, great story. One thing that bothered me usually is how repetitive challenges can be in open-world game: Kill that person, retrieve this item, explore this tomb... In Spider-Man, there are a few, but not enough to bother me that much. Drone/Bombs/Stealth/Combat challenges are here, but only a few of each so they don't feel repetitive that much. And each have different settings so you don't feel you're doing the same thing again and again. The main story is a mix of CGI scenes, action/combat, stealth, sequence where you push a given button at the right time. You also get to control alternate characters like MJ Watson or Miles Morales, giving a sense of helplessness ("If I was spider-man right now, I'd jump over the fence and get out of here"). Combat part is not that easy or basic. You don't get to mash the square button and hope you'll get out alive. You need to vary your attacks, use combos, mix aerial and ground attacks, use gadgets, etc. And finally, the free-roam is fantastic. You won't have the feeling, like old spiderman cartoons, that Spidey is just throwing his web to the clouds and magically find a spot to grab on. If there's nothing on top or side of you, you'll fall. The physics is great, and you just want to roam around doing crazy fly-by just for fun. Insomniac did it again!

Very enjoyable and balanced game
I ended up liking this game quite a bit more than I thought I would. The graphics in the game are beautiful. Of course it's a mix of realism and less than, but visually, it's stunning. The controls for the character are very smooth and swinging around the city is quick addictive. The story is engaging and entertaining, with a bit of humor thrown in here and there, but overall, there's enough drama to keep you interested. Side quests are well worth doing, and I ended up completing them all. There's a ton of content to complete. I'd recommend grinding to level up before you get too heavily into the main quests. Some of the side content will not open up until you complete specific missions, but you can certainly find enough to start the leveling process. You can really tell that they put some thought into this game. I'd say that it's similar to the Batman games, when it comes to fighting. There's boss fights that are timed with button pushing, but it never feels too annoying. Unlike with Batman, I never ran across a quicktime fight that I couldn't hit the button in time to complete the segment of the fight. The timing basically always felt fair. I'd say that this game is easy enough to complete for most players. I plaid on normal and other than some challenging spots with "Camps" of enemies, it wasn't difficult at all. You can always level up enough to complete any section. I highly recommend purchasing this game, and I'm looking forward to future ones.

Best game I've played on PS4 since Uncharted 4
Title says it all. This is masterpiece, period. It feels like you are playing one big, gorgeous comic book. Pros: + Stunning graphics (Manhattan in particular is just gorgeous). + Combat is a blast (perfectly captures the speed and resourcefulness with which Spiderman would fight). + Story is tremendous (quite frankly, one of the best stories ever for a PS4 video game). + Villains are brilliant (great mix of the old, tried and tested Spiderman villains that you know and love, along with some great new villains that you've never seen before). + Some of the best writing ever for a PS4 game (Peter Parker's trademark banter is alive and well during combat, providing some genuinely laugh out loud moments). + Webslinging through New York is a lot of fun. + Voice acting is tremendous (Peter Parker, J Jonah Jameson, and Otto Octavius in particular are standouts). Cons: - With all the gadgets, skills, and suit powers that Spiderman acquires during the game, it is possible to become a little overpowered. I pretty much cruised through the normal level. You might want to try the most difficult level if you want a real challenge. Easily GOTY, if it weren't for RDR 2 in a month. Spiderman crushes the highly overrated GOW, smashes Far Cry 5, and whips Vampyr. Can't recommend this game enough.

With Great Power Comes Great Replayability
Spider-man for PS4 was all but guaranteed to be a hit before it came out, dropping trailers that looked more like a web-slinging version of Arkham Knight than previous iterations of our friendly neighborhood... Peter Parker? Yep, expect to play as Peter Parker nearly as much as Spider-Man in this game, at least during the story missions, but this turns out to be better than it sounds. Miles Morales and Mary Jane get their own levels, too, but these tend to amount to little more than stealth missions most of the time. Still, it's cool that these characters get a few moments in the limelight. The storyline and characters of Marvel's Spider-Man drive the game and are ultimately what make it a success. From the opening battle with Kingpin, Marvel's Spider-Man never stops dropping spidery Easter eggs throughout its main play. Offering a bevy of twists and turns, just when the story-- based on the Brand New Day storyline from the comics-- threatens to drag, another familiar villain or ally, both old and new, gets thrown into the mix to keep things interesting. Cutscenes are consistently entertaining and often exciting, and the climax of the game gave me exactly what I hoped for but didn't expected to get. Traversal proves to be another huge plus in Spidey's arsenal. While fast-travel options appear after a few story missions, swinging solo across the city and doing aerial acrobatics never gets old. Fighting, on the other hand, can be somewhat frustrating as one often has to single-handedly fight off hordes of enemies but no more frustrating than similar games of this nature. Sometimes it feels like it makes no sense on whom Spider-Man decides to focus when the baddies surround him and start attacking, but that's how it goes. The game gives Spider-man plenty of gadgets and suit upgrades so that players should never feel at a COMPLETE disadvantage, and it's thrilling when a well-executed plan comes together. Although each gadget may be upgraded and each suit comes with its own unique power, some early gadgets and suits are so helpful that players may find themselves sticking to the same strategies throughout the majority of the game. The biggest drawback of the game is its repetitive gameplay. A lot of the side missions feel familiar, especially if you've played any of the Arkham series, and usually amount to fighting waves of bad guys, stealth takedowns, or traversal challenges. Early side missions force Spider-man to collect backpacks or activate towers so that he can access a map of Manhattan... as though SPIDER-MAN would need a MAP of Manhattan? The boss battles typically amount to figuring out a pattern and then repeating that pattern until the next section of the boss battle. Again, this has a familiar feel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but also doesn't feel like it is adding anything new to the genre. Another drawback (at least for some) will be its relatively short length, especially when compared to similar games like Arkham Knight or Horizon: Zero Dawn, which offer a bit more bang for the buck. Serious gamers will be able to get through this game in a weekend (or less, depending on how long you play it) and most casual gamers will not need more than a couple of weeks. Spider-Man is fun, but it is also familiar-feeling and a little short. Fans of Spider-Man will most likely love it (I sure did!), and the game is worth the price for the story and how well it nails the feel of being an amazing spider-person. Excelsior!

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT REGION DISC BEFORE PLAYING!!!!
Ok, I have to admit, this is one of my favorite games for the PS4. If you are a superhero fan, or especially a Spidey fan, this is game we've been dreaming about since the wonky swinging mechanics of the PS2 Spider-Man game. Fantastic game, which I highly recommend. HOWEVER, if you plan on playing any DLC, make sure to have the CORRECT DISC FOR YOUR REGION before playing. Why should you care? Here's what happened to me: I bought the disc at the release date. Amazon is awesome for this, because they deliver it the same day as the release date. I played through the entire game and loved it. Decided I'd try the DLC to get an additional Spidey fix....then the DLC wouldn't work. Long story short- I discovered after talking with Sony support that I was shipped a disc from the wrong region. It turns out I had a European version of the game (I live in the USA) [see the attached pics. Look for the globe icon. Mine says "2" which is EU. It should say "All"]. As many of you may or may not know, the EU discs will work fine from wherever you are, but digital content is region specific. Therefore, the DLC now doesn't work with my current, fully completed, boatload-of-time-invested, totally-jacked-Spidey saved game. ugh. The upside is that Amazon worked out an exchange, and Sony refunded my purchase. The downside is that the aforementioned totally-jacked-Spidey save will not work with the DLC. In addition to that, now it doesn't even register on my PS4 after installing the North American disc that it was exchanged for. boo. I just don't have that kind of time, nor desire to do a full play through again. Sorry Spidey, it was fun while it lasted.....

The Spider-Man Game I’ve Always Wanted!
As someone who has played almost every Spider-Man game from the original 8bit and 16-bit era to the most modern consoles, this game feels like a Spider-Man game FINALLY done RIGHT. For newcomers to the franchise/mythos of our favorite web head, this story is a great introduction to some of the villans, main cast and the fantastic Miles Morales. For veterans that grew up reading the comics, there are a ton of nods to popular issues of The Amazing Spider-Man including some new story lines that I won’t spoil here and a great cameo or two (one almost made me cry). Voice acting wise, Spider-Man is voiced by the fantastic Yuri Lowenthal who sounds more and more like Tom Holland from Spider-Man Homecoming the more I play it. The entire cast really gives it their all in their performances and it shows. Game mechanics wise, the core feels a lot like the Batman Arkham games had a love child with the recent Lord of the Rings games and that’s not a bad thing AT ALL! Plus, there’s a ton of special abilities to unlock and a huge amount of special gadgets and costumes to get as well. You can totally tell that Insomniac did their homework when they researched the Spider-Man universe. Plus, did I mention that you can web swing all over New York City?!?!? In closing, if you couldn’t tell already I’m a huge fan of this game and would highly recommend anyone that even remotely likes Spider-Man to play it. It’s a high watermark of this generation of consoles and worth buying a PS4 to experience it. I truly hope Insomniac is planning on making another one of these in the future. For now, just play it. You won’t regret it.

Best Spider-man Game
Best Spider-man game to date in terms of story and gameplay --Story: Peter Parker has been Spider-man for 8 years already, so no origin story with the radioactive spider or Uncle Ben's death (although mentioned briefly in the story). There's a nice mix of a dual lifestyle in this game as the story balance out Peter Parker's personal life with that of Spider-man; making the character you play more relatable and to switch things up so you don't get constant combat making for good pacing. Plot (minor spoilers, first few hours): Spider-man finally takes down the Kingpin and put him in jail. As a result, a new villain arises in the form of Mister Negative. Mister Negative or Martin Li also runs F.E.A.S.T. shelters across the city, which Peter's Aunt May works for which complicates things. Aside from the Mister Negative; you face other villains in Spider-man's rogue gallery like Shocker, Electro, Rhino, Scorpion, Dr. Octopus, Vulture, Taskmaster and more. These characters don't play a huge part in the story compared to Mister Negative (and maybe one more villain), but the boss battles they're in are really fun. Other villains are mentioned (but not able to face against) through phone conversations, collectables, and JJJ podcasts. Guess they want to save it for potential sequel. There is DLC announced for the Black Cat as of this review with two more to come after. --Gamplay: A mix of Spider-man 2 and Batman Arkham games with it's own identity mixed in. Web-slinging feel very natural once you get the hang of it, and way better than the Spider-man 2 game as you can more manual control. You have to time your button presses to shoot out webs, calculate airtime, forward thrust and momentum. It controls are very seamless once you get used to it. Combat is very fast paced. Very similar to the Batman Arkham games with it's attack, dodge (when you get spider sense) mechanic, but more room to maneuver around compared to batman due to Spider-man having more agility, speed and ability to web swing. -Options for combat are: Melee Attacks Web based attacks Dodge Web Gadgets: use of elemental webbing and/or web bombs/traps. Some of which are super effective against certain enemies Swing Around- can be used as hit-and-run tactic if you're not high enough level Grab nearby objects with web and toss at enemies Activate focus meter/Activate Suit Powers - heal or do finishing move There's a lot of combinations you can do, especially as you upgrade abilities. Combat is very fast, responsive and will not overwhelm you with options as these abilities will unlock gradually as you progress. It's also not a button masher as some abilities require you to time button presses or hold buttons for few seconds during combos. -Upgrade System There are 2 ways to upgrade Spider-man: leveling up and crafting items. There are 3 upgrade trees you can select from: Innovator: tactical skills Defender: Melee combat based Web-sling: Jump around/dodge better during combat, also can use in overworld/chase sequence mini-games -Crafting. You can upgrade your suit and make gadgets by collecting in-game tokens by doing side objectives -There are 27 suits to collect. To unlock suits to craft, you have to be a certain level (and have materials) or complete certain objectives. If you 100% all side objectives you get this half naked spider-man suit where he's just in his underwear and a Spider-man mask. Last level unlock suit is at level 50. If you pre-order the game; the Spiderpunk suit, for example is unlocked from the get-go instead of having to wait till you reach level 16. There are 3 empty spaces for 3 additional suits. I assume it'll be included in the 3 planned story DLC for the game. -Other Gameplay To change up the pace a bit; you also play as Mary Jane, where you have to sneak around enemies to escape certain areas. There's also QTE (quick time events) during cinematic sequences Taskmaster acts like the Riddler in the Batman Arkham games giving you various side quests around the map before you face him Game takes around 15-20 hours to complete depending on your skill and how fast you intend to rush through the main story campaign. To collect everything and get platinum trophy it can take upwards to 40 hours. --Graphics Game looks very good, especially on the PS4 Pro where Spider-man's suit and puddles stand out more compared to the regular PS4. Whatever format you play it on, the game looks amazing. Has very good draw distance, and cinematic cutscenes. If you are nitpicky and walk up to individualized objects, the textures may be off a bit. Seeing the fast paced nature of the game, you most likely not have time to look around the over world anyway. Regardless, one of the best looking PS4 games to date Voice acting is also very good. Like the banter between Peter and Mary Jane. Also get some fun laughs when you use the Quips (tell jokes to enemies) ability for the Comic Spider-man suit. Overall, had a blast playing this game. If you're a fan of Spider-man or super hero games in general; it's a must buy.

The most OVERRATED video game of all time.
Updated: I have gave this game a 4 stars and almost gave it a 3 stars. NEVER MIND. THIS GAME IS AMAZING. I like the story is great and the graphics is ok. I see some floating leafs: paralyzed on the air. Other than that, I hope the make part 2 of it. This is the most OVERRATED video game of all time. Yes, even IGN promoted this video game (I wonder how much Sony paid IGN for it?). I was waiting for this game for months. I’ve drove my wife crazy letting her know how close this game was to be released! The game is too crowded and don’t get to disabled my opponents to avoid some fighting like (Infamous-second son). You have to do the same move over and over and over and over for every opponents (everything seems REPETITIVE) some seems where is calmness you can see trembling objects specially at the beginning at Peter Parker’s apartment. Graphics was detailed but not the best I’ve seen. I still like the game but it was not as advertised. I wanted to give it 3 stars but the movie scenes and funny remarks made me enjoy the game. I’ve pre-ordered Death Stranding too. I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
