The diameter matches the dowel segments and the grooves are cut on top and bottom sections. the dowels are glued alternating between the lid and base with small pins between dowel segments. After curing the dowels are made flush with the back of the box. These did the job well. The different sizes allowed for some experimentation on dowel sizes for the task. Priced below the quality. Came in plastic holders for each one. The 1/2" shaft should provide for good cutting in the oak I work in. They are sharp and leave a smooth finish. The carbon steel should hold their edge and last a long time.
