Massive collection of the defining tracks of the 1960s. 100 original hits remastered on this 5 CD set. The Best Sixties Album contains the defining tracks of the decade and features some of the biggest hits from the original artists. 100 all-time hits presented on this 5 CD collection. Includes: Aretha Franklin, Fifth Dimension, Lovin' Spoonful, Johnny Cash, Santana, The Byrds, Moody Blues, Del Shannon, Andy Williams, Harry Nilsson, Sly & The Family Stone, Tony Bennett, Tammy Wynette and many more. Review: A great collection! Includes seventy Top 40 Billboard (USA) Hits! - If you’re into oldies collections, this is a fantastic bargain! At least one reviewer here claimed that there aren’t enough hits, or that there are too many cover versions or remakes. Don’t believe it. There are a staggering 70 Top 40 Billboard (USA) hits in this collection! Yes, seventy! That number includes 51 Top 10 hits as well as 19 #1 hits! Disc 2 alone has 17 Top 10 hits! And that’s not to say that the rest of the songs aren’t any good. A few were hits in the U.K. and some, such as Kris Kristofferson’s version of Sunday Morning Comin’ Down (which he wrote), are just very good songs, regardless of their lack of success on the Billboard charts. As for cover version and remakes, that might be a reference to songs like Jose Feliciano’s version of the Doors song, Light My Fire. Feliciano’s version reached #3 in 1968, a year after the Doors topped the charts with it. Another example might be You Were on My Mind by Crispian St. Peters, which reached #36 two years after We Five had a #3 hit with it. These were legitimate Top 40 hits in their own right. Also included is Piece of My Heart by Erma Franklin (Aretha’s sister), which charted in the Top 100 (#62) in 1967, and even though most people are more familiar with Janis Joplin’s #12 hit, her version didn’t enter the Billboard charts until almost a year after Franklin’s. So it was Joplin who actually had the cover version! At any rate, as far as I can tell, I think these are all original recordings and the sound quality is very good compared to other releases I’ve heard. I paid $8.99 for this collection. As of today, I see it’s going for $11.99. But where else can you get seventy Top 40 hits for that price? Will you like every song? Probably not, but even if you only like 1 in 5, it’s still a pretty good deal. Personally, I think this set would be a steal at double the price! Review: I ordered this from RAREWAVES.com, Ltd. - MOST helpful comment I can make is: Look at the color-adjusted CD's song-listing! 1.) Original recordings. 2.) Original artists. 3.) IF you were in school during the '60s, you'll recognize songs you've not heard in years. 4.) I certainly WASN'T expecting S0Oo many songs I recognized/ liked, and for less than $13 ! 5.) The shipping was inexpensive, considering it's sent from Great Britain. 6.) I live in Germany, and got this nine-days ahead of schedule. 7. MY favorite artists' songs include, but, not limited to: THE BYRDS; LOVIN' SPOONFUL; THE BOX TOPS; GUESS WHO; YARDBIRDS; FLEETWOOD MAC; SANTANA; PAUL REVERE & THE RAIDERS; BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY featuring Janis Joplin; BOBBY DARIN; DEL SHANNON; THE ARCHIES; 1910 FRUITGUM COMPANY; OHIO EXPRESS; GARY PUCKETT & THE UNION GAP; BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS; BOBBY VINTON; NEIL SEDAKA; LEE DORSEY; THE TOKENS; LOU CHRISTIE; SLY & THE FAMILY STONE; DELFONICS; 5th DIMENSION; ARETHA FRANKLIN; JOHNNY NASH; HARRY NILSSON; ISLEY BROTHERS; DOBIE GRAY; José Feliciano; PERCY FAITH ORCHESTRA; HENRY MANCINI; DAVE BRUBECK QUARTET; RAMSEY LEWIS; JOHNNY CASH; JIM REEVES; ANDY WILLIAMS; TONY BENNETT; DUANE EDDY;JIMMY DEAN; JOHNNY MATHIS; PERRY COMO; TAMMY WYNETTE; HUGO MONTENEGRO' ORCHESTRA; STATLER Bros.; MARTY ROBBINS. Good, But Some Concerns
The selection is adequate, and the value is there, but the main problem, is that most songs are cut off by ten or more seconds. Examples: During a guitar solo, by Carlos Santana, the song fades, but way too early, during his guitar solo. 2. In the smash hit, by Zaeger and Evans, " In the Year 2525", near the end, it cuts off during actual lyrics. And most others too . Imports are rarely good. 2. They are the original recordings, but you will hear one song in mono, the next in a much higher volume, etc. 3. There are quite a few non hits, and songs not rock or pop, but that's to be expected in a low price CD. In a compilation, I need to recognize the song within two measures, and about 35% I couldn't recognize, whereas hits, I know 100% from this era. There was one song though, that I have not heard in 35 years, a real nice flash- " Flowers on the Wall" by the Statler Brothers, a nice little ditty. Be honest, how many of you remember that one?

Nice addition to a collection - if you're not too particular
With a compilation of 100 Best of the 1960s, a number of favorites are bound to be overlooked and several of your personal favorites will be not included. That is the case here. Most of the songs are familiar, a variety of the artists are included. However ... that is the word 'however' says a lot. I believe these collections take songs from available 'B-list' artists and cull their best 2 or 3 and add the odd one hit wonders that might have made the top 100. When you are trying to gather only 100 songs from a ten year range, many are going to be overlooked. But some should not. This is on the cusp of that situation. There are enough here to justify the purchase, just not enough to be really pleasing to all. My personal collection runs the gamut from 1960-ish to 2019; LPs - 8-track - cassettes - CDs... all told - from Buddy Holly & Elvis through the first British invasion in the early sixties on to the birth of heavy metal and light FM & Woodstock during the summer of love [over 870 just in cassettes, LPs and CDs]. Not to mention the '70s through the 2010s. If you are starting a personal collection for yourself, you could do worse, but you could do better. It all depends on your taste and memories. If you lived the sixties, pass on this one. If you are looking for a sampling of your parents' generation, this could help start it up. Ask Mom & Dad about the songs and artists. If they are really enthusiastic, by all means buy it. I'm just a bit more particular. It's hard to find a collection of hits that does not overlap others of that type. They tried. I give them credit for that ...

a no-brainer for the price if you remember the '60s
This 2017 Demon/ Sony Music 5-disc 1960s music set makes a good companion set to the Spectrum 5-disc 101 60s Hits (the playback volume between these 2 box sets is comparable, so ripping/ burning favorite tracks via computer is pretty consistent – a few tracks, however, are very low in playback volume, especially on this box set, like Eve of Destruction). This set has 20 tracks/ disc, at 57, 53, 55, 59 & 56 minutes each. It is better than the Spectrum set in that song title/artist/composer/label/date are listed on each inside flap of the 5-fold cardboard case. Each disc slides into separate open-at-each-end slots & are very hard to slide out – luckily since the discs are only partially full, if the disc must be grabbed to assist in sliding out, you aren’t going to get fingerprints on any encoded part of the disc. Just like listening to 60s AM radio – rock, psychedelia, jazz, bubblegum, R&B, folk, reggae, cross-over country tracks. All tracks seem to be original recordings (a few may be album versions – I noticed The Count Five’s Psychotic Reaction has a different ending); the majority are in stereo; selections lean slightly to the British side, so some songs may not be familiar to the casual music fan. Sound is great (re-mastered??). BTW, Windows Media Player recognizes all the disc info.

Excellent quality, original recordings
While it can be difficult to select 100 songs from a decade of music, this set of CD's does a good job of having a diverse collection. I can't say that I like all of the songs, but I do like the vast majority of them. The quality of the recordings is excellent. I recall that there were some collections of hit music released many years ago that were re-recordings by the original artist or artists, but they weren't as good as the originals. These recordings are the real deal. The packaging is not a problem with me. It is a fold out holder that fits one CD in each folding section. The contents of the CD is printed on the folding section that the CD is stored in.

Excellent Value
I have dozen and dozens of 60s hit collections and box sets, and without a doubt this set is the best value. You get a 100 great songs on five discs. The cardboard packaging is fragile (I ripped one section as I pulled a disc out), but I like it that it doesn't take up much more space than one jewel case. (Efficient storability is a huge factor for me at this point in my life.) I knew most of the songs on here, and loved all of those. There were a few songs I didn't know, but I like them as well--they are not filler. Sound quality on all of the songs was superb...and I'm playing this on a 100 watt traditional stereo at pretty good volume. I have no complaints at all. This set is a bargain and I can't fathom how it can have less than 5 stars. I'm buying all the others sets by this label right now.

I'm Blown Away!
If I could give this a 10, that's what I would give this compilation. When it says it's "the best sixties album", they mean it. Listening to this set brought back so many memories of my childhood and high school. This is and has to be the best ever 60s compilation. There's a lot of songs on here I never heard before. I normally don't buy a CD compilation if I have some of the songs on other discs. I bought this one for a few songs that I wanted but couldn't find. Check out this 5 CD set. I very much doubt you'll be disappointed. If you want a real, true blue nostalgia trip, this is the set to listen to. There's a lot of good songs on here mostly from American artists but still, it's one set to have. I more than highly recommend this one for any old timers, and anyone else, like myself who grew up in the sixties. Guarantee you will not be disappointed. I'm so happy I purchased this set.

Sur le CD4 : Le prenant « Peace of my heart » (#09 UK) par Erma Franklin en octobre 1992, R&B avec « It’s your thing » (#02 US) en 1969, L’égaré « Out on the floor » (#42 UK) de Dobie Gray de septembre 1975, Le classique « Cool Jerk » (#07 US) par The Capitols de juillet 1966, Le crooner Tony Bennett avec « I left my heart in San Francisco » (#25 UK) en 12/1965, Sur le CD5 : L’excellent « Stand by your man » (#01 UK) par Tammy Wynette en avril 1975, L’entraînant « Making time » de The Creation (#49 UK) en juillet 1966, Le génial « The Good, the Bad and the Ugly » (#01 UK) par H. Montenegro & Orchestra en 1968, Le country « Flowers on the wall » (#38 UK - #04 US) des Stater Brothers en mars 1966.
