Really nice beginner bike
I bought this during Prime Day and was very happy with my purchase. I haven't biked in many years but now that my kids are getting into it, I figured that it was about time to reestablish my love of biking. It took a few trips to get used to it again but soon I was riding like I did back when I was young! As for the bike itself, this does come with some assembly required. It's not much, attaching the handlebars, attaching the front wheel, adjusting the brakes etc. The box includes some handy tools to assist in the assembly. It's not very heavy either so you should be able to maneuver it around while assembling. The brakes are very easy to adjust and I figured it out pretty quickly. The assembly book does use some technical terms and the pictures are sometimes difficult to follow but overall it wasn't too bad. I like that the bike comes with shocks which make for a much more comfortable ride. The only issue that I have so far is the lack of a kickstand which I didn't think I'd miss but I really do. I don't know why the company skimped on that aspect but you can always pick one up for less than 20 dollars. The bike feels well made and sturdy, gears are easy to shift and the handlebar is easy to adjust. I certainly received a great deal during prime day but even at full price, this bike is worth it.

Great for the price, if your handy
I bought this for my wife's birthday. The shipping was pretty fast from California to Wisconsin. The package was a little beat up from the long ride but everything looked good when I pulled it all out. All assembly parts were boxed up separately with the directions. The seat and post were in another box. The tires come flat for shipping, no big deal. The bike is really nice looking. The only knock was they put the handlebars backwards on the handlebar post. That didn't matter to me since I put different handlebars on it right away anyway. I didn't have to adjust the brakes OR the gears. It is super smooth. Even with the assembly mess up I'm still giving it 5 stars for the value to quality of parts. It's definitely the best option for an entry level aluminum mountain bike. It blows huffy and mongoose and the other big box brands away. All in all it's a great bike for the price and even double the price would be reasonable for what we received. You just have to be a little handy

Nice bike for the money...But just so you know....
I have been riding MTB's for about 20 years. My wife recently showed interest in starting to ride, so I decided to by a quality, entry level bike for her to get started on. I am familiar with the Royce Union name. The company has been around since the early 1900's, but like everyone else, they have moved most of their manufacturing overseas. Not a bad thing...just sad that there are very few fully American made bikes anymore...unless you want to pay thousands to get one. And even with that, most of the components are still made in China. But I digress. This Royce Union MTB is a quality bike for the price. Many want to try to compare it to cheap, big box store bikes. It is unfair because this bike is MUCH nicer than almost all of those. Here are some pros and cons. Please keep in mind that these are simply my opinions. Hopefully you find them helpful. The pros. 1. The bike comes with everything you need to assemble it in the box (more about that later). If you can assemble an office chair, you can assemble this bike. It is very straight forward. 2. The frame is 6061 aluminum...not steel. This reduces weight, while remaining a very strong foundation for the rider. It also gives you a nice platform to upgrade on if you choose to. The powder blue and clear coat finish is really nice. The welds are clean, and the decals and logo really pop, and are applied nice and straight. 3. The drivetrain is a 21 speed Shimano Tourney with the EZ fire trigger shifter/Brake lever combos. This is a nice upgrade from twists shifters found on cheaper bikes, as they offer more precise shifting. They also have windows on the shifters that show you what chain ring you are on on the crank, and what gear you are in. Right hand shifts gears, left hand changes the chain position on the crank. 4. The caliper brakes are easy to setup and adjust. 5. It comes with a nice set of knobby trail tires. 6. The rims are painted aluminum with unpainted sides for better braking. 7. The saddle is well padded and comfortable. 8. The front suspension fork is more than sufficient for light trail riding, or tackling the urban sidewalks, streets and paved trails. Now for the cons. 1. Although the box the bike was shipped in was in good condition, and the bike inside arrived pretty much unscathed, several pieces of hardware had fallen out of the parts box and were just rattling around inside the larger box. This included the plug for the handlebars, the friction mounts for the saddle, the bolt for the saddle, and one of the nuts for the saddle bolt. The problem here is 2 fold. First of all, either of those parts missing would have made the bike unrideable unless you made a trip to the bike shop or hardware store to get a replacement. Not cool. Second, these parts rattling around could have damaged that paint and finish on the bike. Other reviews have also complained about the packaging. Royce Union REALLY needs to address this with the manufacturer. 2. The front rim was noticeably warped. This probably happened during shipping. The warped spot causes the brakes to rub against the rim in that one spot, and you cannot adjust it out. 3. The bike needs a complete tune up to fix some minor shifting bugs. It shifts up from gears 1-7 fine, but it skips gears on the way back down. My local bike shop should be able to fix that easily enough, along with hopefully being able to true the bent rim. These are minor things, but it just sucks that I am going to have to pay around $65.00 to fix these issues on top of what I just paid for a brand new bike. But I usually take my bike to the shop annually for a tune up anyway. I just chalk that up to the cost of the hobby, and owning, riding and maintaining quality bikes. Wrapping this up...Given all of the pros and cons, do I think that bike is worth the price and would I buy it again? Absolutely. This is a vey nice bike for the money. Quality of build, component grupo, the saddle, tires, and ease of assembly make this bike a great value. As for buying it again...I just ordered one for my daughter, because she liked the one I bought for my wife so much. So there ya go! Hope this helps, especially if you were on the fence about this bike. My recommendation...don't be. Buy with confidence that it is a really nice bike for the money.

You should be somewhat mechanically inclined before attempting to assemble this.
Arrived today, took about 25 minutes to assemble, only issue was I had to orient the handlebars correctly (which explains why 1 review here the guy hasn't figured out his handlebars aren't different, they're installed backwards. And yet another reviewer has the front forks backwards). I did order a kickstand for mine for $13 on here and it arrived today as well. So far, seems pretty decent. If you're the type of person that struggles doing basic home or automotive maintenance, pay somebody to put it together.

Poor quality, very difficult to assembly and terrible customer service support
I purchased this item to surprise my son for his birthday in July 2023. It took us over 2 hours to assemble the bike, and as soon as my son started riding it, things began to fall apart. Initially, we thought we had done something wrong and decided to take it to a local reputable bike shop. We were reassured that we didn't do anything wrong but that the bicycle quality was poor. The repair shop made several adjustments and changed some of the original pieces for $100. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, after my son rode it only a handful of times (Chicago weather in October!), the handlebars became loose, and my son fell. Thankfully, nothing happened to him apart from a few scratches. The mechanic added a shim so they don't become loose again. A new brake pad had to be added as it got lost while riding it that handful of times. Something else was noticed once the mechanic tested the bike this second time: the bottom bracket (the component that rotates the pedals) is damaged and needs to be repaired ($20). If it's beyond repair, we'd need to replace it ($40). I contacted customer support after this additional expense for a brand-new bike. They indicated that nothing else could be done besides submitting pictures and proof that they were manufacturer-defected sending pieces. Seriously? They were unwilling to request repair receipts and compensate for that. Please do not purchase this item. I will not buy any ROYCE products ever again!

Purchased for Father's Day Gift 2018
Well it sure is a beautiful looking bike! It comes like 90% assembled: leaving customer to literally place the stem of the seat and handle bars into their posts and turn a few screws.. pedals screw right in too so the assembly is pretty simple. (The instructions make assembly seem like a daunting task, so I didn't even bother with them.) Once it's completed the bike looks great! It's sturdy, and the color rocks. It's a nice bike for a manly guy. I put it together while he was at work and took it down the block just to make sure the wheels wouldn't fall off lol And luckily they didn't. It coasted down the road like a dream. It was really hot today too so the breeze was quite refreshing :) I took off 2 stars for one reason. This one really irks me though.... there is no kickstand. I'm shocked that it doesn't come with one. It's a simple stick of metal. So how does the buyer store the bike? .. on its side, on the floor? No one wants to spend 250 on something just to leave it haphazardly on the ground. It's shown standing on its own in the photos, so the buyer will assume their bike will also stand on it's own. Receiving the bike in good shape is just as important as maintaining it. I'd rather have paid more for one with a kickstand, because now I have to find one online, wait more time for delivery and hope the kickstand is compatible with the bike:: creating the headache I thought I escaped during assembly. If a kickstand was provided I would have happily given 5 stars.

I LOVE my bike!
This was my first time buying something used through Amazon. I was so worried when reading some of the reviews that I would be missing parts, but decided to take a chance because of the price. My 13 yr old son put it together so it wasn't too difficult. It looked brand new! Love the color, love the look, it's super light, love the tires- they work great on muddy trails. I did replace the seat, but I had planned on doing that anyway since I wanted a memory foam seat. For size, I got the 26" and I'm 5'4".

SO COMFORTABLE TO RIDE
This bike is the BEST bike I have ever owned! The seat is very comfortable, the big tires make riding on the street a real joy. I have had many bikes in my lifetime, none have ever felt this perfect ever before! . I am 5 feet 5 inches tall and this bike fit my body perfectly. It’s a FANTASTIC BIKE 🚲 AND NOT TOO EXPENSIVE. 👍👍👍👍👍. GO FOR IT. ASSEMBLY TOOK A LITTLE TIME BUT IT WAS DO ABLE 👍👍👍

It was delivered before the date and it is a good product!
I received the bike earlier than the date on the system. It was easy to assemble, and all the parts/tools worked very well. Definitely, a good option for starting a ride. The size guide on the product description also is a good thing to check and follow it.

3-Star out of five and here's why
Seat is a pain in the butt. If you're buying this bicycle as a replacement for another one you finally had to scrap, I hope you kept the old seat and if you didn't... well... if possible, go retrieve it ASAP and use it on this bike cause you're gonna regret it if you don't. The seats on these bicycles are so low quality and made with absolutely no comfort in mind. It makes an awesome implement of torture if you plan to break and split open someone's entire pelvic bones structure. I finally got to ride the bike after assembling it and I could not do it for more than 10 minutes. Extremely deceiving.
