Not the answer for all your needs
I bought the D-Link DVG-1402 S/L to try cheap overseas calls to Western Europe; that's where our families are. My first router didn't work so well - poor voice quality, it got really hot to the touch, and after a day or so I couldn't even connect to the internet through it. A week and a RMA later, the new router is working very well. I also learned that the poor voice quality was partly due to the cheap V-Tech 2.4 GHz cordless I was using with it. When I used a corded phone, everyone was impressed that the service sounded fine. Liking the cordless idea, though, I switched to a Panasonic 900 MHz DSS phone and that works great. When not using the VoIP feature the speed is fine, 4Mb down, 400Kb up, on average. With VoIP in use, however, (making a live call) the down speed is about 2Mb but the uplink drops off to around 24Kb! You can get better internet speed by putting the DVG-1402 behind another router (in my case a Netgear RP-614) and just use the D-Link box for the VoIP feature - but that wasn't the point of buying it!I like Lingo as a VoIP service. It works fine for me. But don't buy the DVG-1402 as a replacement router just because it has the VoIP feature. Just get the regular Lingo inerface and put it behind the good router you already have.

Lingo Poor Service
I bought this device to try Lingo service but was very disappointed by the poor quality of Lingo service. Some features do not work at all and voice quality is not that great. I cancelled it because I was not very happy with this service and decided to continue using Vonage service.

Nice idea - poor quality device, firmware problems
After endless hours with Lingo and Dlink support I give up. There are firmware issues with this device, and Dlink and lingo point fingers at each other.Low volume, dropped calls, and frequent need to reboot the device. If you want lingo, don't use this device, get the standard box they provide.

Great quality if you have bandwith and hook it up right
I have lingo phone service and love it. Not only do I save 40.00 a month from Verizon traditional phone service, without even making a long distance phone, but the features available with the 19.99 a month price are incredible and easy to use. I did have some trouble originally because I had the Dlink hooked up to my wireless router, but if you hook it up directly to your modem and anything else after it, you will be set. I have a 4 meg/768 up cable modem line and have not experienced any real issues with it, except when hooked up using the alternative method. If you have poor bandwith speeds I wouldn't suggest VOIP, regardless of the service. Lingo's customer service has been great thus far even though it appears to be outsourced. The other cool thing is that you can take the router with you throughout the world and place and take calls. People in your local dialing area, the number you choose, will never know the difference, or pay long distance fees. The last thing that is incredible is the ability to add additional local "virtual" numbers in North America, Europe or Asia for a small fee. This is great if you have family in other parts of the world and want them to have the ability to ring you with no toll charges. Lastly, Lingo ported over my number in about a month and where incredible in letting me know that the porting took place.

Lingo is TERRIBLE Serivce
I've used Lingo for a couple of months and in general here are my feelings on the service.1.) In general it works pretty well, but occasionally you do get echos2.) There are some phone numbers that it will just not call. Normal phone number to my parents would not work. Most 888 and 866, 800, toll free numbers are problems.3.) Using it on the road is not recommended. I travel a lot and my intent was to use the phone service to cut down on cell usage and phone call costs while travelling. The problem is that most hotels that offer Broadband service are using firewalls. There are a number of ports that have to be opened which many hotels are hesitant to do. One Marriott actually moved me into the DMZ to allow it to work. Fortuneatley I was running my own firewall.4.) The price is not that great. I have Bell South service at home and pay the same $19.95 for better quality phone service which includes unlimited long distance to anywhere in the US which is where I call.5.) Lingo has a $39.95 disconnect fee if disconnected in the first year. This is totally unreasonable, so if you're not sure you want to keep it and cancel after the 30 day trial period you are screwed and must pay a $40 disconnect. REALLY ANNOYING.6.) What the fine print. If your box is stolen you are responsible for all the service that someone gets out if. They really are only interested in one thing...taking your money.6.) You are disconnected right away, and whatever used part of the month you haven't used you are not allowed to use, nor are you reimbursed for it either. Totally unfair.7.) Customer Service is ridiculous. Calls are not prioritized based upon when you call, but by what kind of service you have. If you call for service you can easily be on hold for 30-60 min. before talking to someone. A segmented support center for home and business might alleviate some of these long wait times.8.) I experinced hardware failures of their box within 2 months. I could call out but no one could hear me.Overall I would give them a 1 our of 5 stars and would never recommended them to anyone I considered a friend.Steven GlennDecatur, Alabama
