American Sailing Ships: Their Plans and History (Dover Maritime)
Charles G Davis requires no introduction from me. He is arguably the doyen of model ship modelling. Whist his methods reflect the age wherein he writes (1929), the basic lessons are invaluable and anyone interested in the hobby should have this volume on their shelves. There is little else to say of this primer, the contents of which may come as a shock to those who only know of plastic kits; this book harks back to the days when one began with a block of wood! Although the title makes clear the content, the information therein is, with a bit of intelligent interpretation, applicable to ship modellers generally. Essential reading!
