Since most new TVs have an optical audio and analog audio out, the output of both these devices is single level, meaning they are not controlled by the TVs volume control. I needed a way to tap into the TV's speaker outputs to give me a standard line level output that was controllable by the TV and the TV's remote. This device fit the needs perfectly, but only after ordering and installing three different Line Output Converters that had problems with design and application. While some people who reviewed this Line Out Converter (LOC) stated that the quality of the unit is sub-par, I look at the quality of the thought behind the design. Yes, the input wires are pretty thin, and the solder quality is not the best, the overall design of the unit is very good. Other LOC's I've used either had a hiss or hum problem, (even when grounded), or caused a noticeable distortion of the sound. This unit uses good audio isolation transformers to isolate the input from the output. It's somewhat old school, but, it works, and it works better than anything else I've used. The first thing I did was open the unit up and clean up the solder joints. While most were fine, there were a few that needed some attention. They just needed some cleanup from extra wire lengths and two cold solder joints. Then I desoldered the existing input wires, and installed good, solid 22 Ga. stranded wire in their place. I used a 4-pole double throw switch mounted in the back of the TV panel to allow selection of the internal speakers or the audio out converter. Once installed, the LOC worked perfectly, and I adjusted the LOC for the same volume out as the internal speakers. The photo shows the LOCs installation on the back of the TV, as well as the switch for selecting the sound output. If your application is conversion of the speaker output inside your TV to line level outputs for external powered speakers or an amplifier, then this is what you are looking for!

Works great for what I needed it for. I wanted to connect my old (15 years old) CD player to my new 7.1 surround sound system. The CD player only had speaker wire outputs and the surround sound system only accepted digital optical audio, HDMI, or RCA cables. I used this and it worked great with excellent sound quality from the CD player. It is also reasonably small so it stays well hidden even behind my small CD player. For the price, it is well worth trying. I think that it is mostly meant for car audio systems, but it worked great for my needs. I am sure that it would work just as well for record players or other stereo systems to convert the speaker wire to RCA. I don't listen to many CDs anymore, but it is nice to have the option to.

It does what it is advertised to do. It provides a low level (preamp level) output directly from a speaker system. The output is clean and undistorted. No power rating is listed on the item but from the size of the coils, I would guess it is no more than 20 or 30 watts a channel. It works well with 15 to 20 watt tube amps in the Hammond organs where I installed the units.

I spent many hours trying to eliminate subwoofer hum and level issues in my home 2-channel audio system. I installed two of these (one for each channel due to the distance of my mono-block amplifiers--you only need one if you're dealing with a stereo amp). As others have commented, the fabrication seems very flimsy with thin wires, etc., but they work!

Theres holes in the casing and plates on the board in the circuit for pontentiometer placement, but theyre absent. Very strange. Super cheap hardware for one simple job, works ok, low quality wiring as to be expected.

The level adjustment connections are so poor that they cut in and out! I installed 2 of these behind my stereo (and in my dash) for a total of 4 channels, and then two of the channels started to cut in and out. Turns out it is the level adjustment connections on these high low converters. Poorly made, better to spend more on the PAC; that's what I just had to do!

This device worked very well to provide audio level controlled sound output RCA jacks on my Samsung LN32D403 32-Inch 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV (Black) [2011 MODEL ]. Many new HDTV's don't have any audio outputs other than optical which is a fixed level output which does't change with the TV remotes volume controll. With a cheap TV like this (the sound was not good on mine) I wanted to use a low cost set of PC speakers for a little enhancement; I found a set from Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer for $22 shipped. I opened the case on this unit and pulled the curcuit board out. Then I removed the screws and backside from my Samsung TV which was pretty easy with it laying face down on the bed to avoid sratching the screen. I mounted the adapter next to the TV's control board with hot glue, connected the input leads to the speaker wires at the TV's mainboard (I disconnected the internal speakers since they rattled badly anyway), and then routed the RCA wires out the back of the TV by cutting the sticker where it covered a pre-punched hole in the TV casing which wasn't used for this TV model. I left the impedence adapter trim pots at their original settings which I think was about 50% and it works great. I now have volume level controlled sound availble on RCA jacks at the back of my Samsung 32" entry level HDTV.

None of the new plasma TVs have output jacks for headphones or for connecting to older stereo amplifiers. I added this to a LG 60PZ950 plasma TV. For my use, I didn't care about the TV's internal speakers, so I disconnected them at the main audio out connector and then connected this device using a custom connector that I fashioned from some old computer junk. Now when I turn up the TV volume, I get an on-screen display of the volume but the sound comes through my old stereo amp to speakers behind my sofa. The lash-up has no distortion that I can detect. Previously, when I used the TV's optical output to my old stereo, turning up the TV volume gave me an on screen display of the volume but the stereo output remained constant. This six buck device was just the ticket.
