After paying out over £1000 for repairs on our Renault Scenic I was less than happy when we had problems starting her soon after getting her back from the garage! Rather than take the car back for another expensive investigation straight away I thought it was worth having a look myself and remembered a roadside mechanic using a scanner to identify an engine problem before. The CR3001 was on offer and seemed worth a try at the price. The scanner arrived and I was very pleased with the build quality and size of the display screen. Once I’d located the on board data port (under the coffee holder tray) it was straightforward to plug in the scanner cable and wait a few seconds for the machine to boot up. The CR3001 offers a simple main menu, easily navigated via the clearly labelled control buttons. In the photographs I’ve selected the Diagnose option and then the Data Stream display. This allows real time monitoring of various engine performance parameters. You’ll see that there are a variety of other options available. Thankfully there were no Error Codes being generated by the engine management system this time around, but had there been then the scanner itself provides translation of the numerical code into a description of the issue. In future I’m confident that like the roadside mechanic previously I’ll be able to alert the garage to the issue that needs addressing, rather than going in blind and having to rely entirely on their prognosis of the problem. As a novice in scanning I was much encouraged by the ease of use of the CR3001 and impressed with the range of options and sub menus that are offered. The large control buttons are easy to use and navigation of the options is assisted by the colour screen. The length of the scanner cable is sufficient to enable clear sight of the screen whilst sitting comfortably in the driving seat. I’m pleased to report that after fully charging the battery and dealing with some water ingress after heavy rain the starting problems have disappeared. I’m still glad I purchased the CR3001 scanner though and pleased that I didn’t discover any other problem to deal with!

I like buying gadgets that save me money, especially when it comes to the car as easy fixes can cost you a fortune at a garage, had to pay a mechanic £40 for a diagnostic check just to tell me my spark plug and ignition coil needed changing, for under £30 this device would have told me this plus it reads Citroen cars which some readers don't, it also has many other functions like reading 02 sensors, gives more details of the fault code, clears fault codes, I have just come back from a short break and again had problems with the car while away, checked what the fault was on the reader and again I had a fault on cylinder 2, this time i changed all the spark plugs with more expensive Bosch from EurocarPart (half price at moment) and to date not had a problem, hopefully no more expensive diagnostic checks plus its very easy to use and there is a good video on Youtube you can watch that tells you more about the uses of the product, can't go wrong for the price, plus the seller is very fast in replying on what cars it can read.

This scanner worked out of the box on my 2004 Ford Mondeo and should work on most newer cars equipped with OBD2. It showed I had no error codes which is great. If it detects error codes they can be cleared. You will need to download the product manual from eninfo dot x431 dot com This device can decode standard DTC codes used by vehicle manufacturers to identify problems. As with all OBD2 readers you will need to understand the results but the documentation is available. P-Codes, B-codes, C-Codes and U-codes are catered for. The controls are robust and good casing makes the device quite safe to drop. A USB cable and input on the device is provided for updates etc. Overall this device works well and is easy to use. Works but there is no link on the website (as advertised) to download an update to the firmware to include later vehicle models which effectively makes the unit obsolete unless you are only diagnosing older vehicles This is very disappointing as the unit has the ability to function well if updated. The description is therefore misleading in terms on updating. I have emailed the manufacturer but as yet (2 months ago) I have not received an acknowledgment or any message. Be aware of this if you want to use the unit on the more modern vehicles

I bought this as a gamble as I've been having problems with a Subaru 2003 Legacy engine. Its in the back of my beloved VW camper and it had gone to the garage with a running problem that was blatantly electrical. The garage could see there were multiple sensor errors coming up but need to clear them and for me to basically drive it again and when it went wrong immediately take it back to check. Given its a camper van chances are this would happen half way through a trip. So went online and bought this reader for £19.99. Delivered the next day, plugged it in and low and behold it read the error codes (and gave an English description not just a code number), which meant I could immediately contact the garage and give them the details. From this they've worked out which one was reoccurring and its now booked in for a fix. Job done. Really easy to use and you can clear the codes as well which is a bonus. Would definitely recommend.

I bought this product but didn't use it straight away. When I came to use it, there was a fault. It was outside the Amazon return window. Sometimes the screen is clear and you can use it but other times it's the Matrix with corrupted text. Tried to email and phone Launch regarding the display fault to see if they could help, but they never answered their customer service phone or replied to email. Therefore, I will not use Launch products again as seems not to be supported in my opinion.

The Creader 3001 may not have as fancy a screen as other, higher-priced OBD2 units, but it does the job. When the 'check engine' light appeared on my dash, I decided that, instead of heading to the mechanic and paying a couple hundred $$$ just to have them tell me what the light was associated with, I ordered the 3001 and found the problem myself, a minor issue with the cooling system that I was able to correct in just a few minutes. And if the problem had been something bigger that I couldn't handle, at least I would have been in the position of being a more educated consumer when dealing with the mechanic, I'd know what the general problem was beforehand and could call their bluff if they tried to inflate the repairs. Everybody should have one sitting in the glovebox or trunk.

Launch CReader 3001 Instantly Read Fault Code on a Sold in Australia 03/2006 BK Mazda 3. It then Successfully Cleared the Codes, Turning off the Check Engine Light. I was able to do this straight out of the Packaging without reading the Manual. Tool is Cheap, Simple and Intruitive to Use.

Ich muss gestehen dass meine Erwartungshaltung gegenüber dem Gerät für diesen Preis nicht sonderlich hoch war, zumal meine bisherigen Erfahrungen mit Smartphone- und App-gestützten Systemen ... sagen wir mal eher durchwachsen waren! Umso positiver war die Überraschung als ich das kleine, handliche Gerät ausprobiert habe. Natürlich sind bei einem Gerät dieser Preisklasse nur die nötigsten Funktionen vorhanden, allerdings finde ich die Echtzeitmotordaten schon ein enorm hilfreiches Feature, was meines Erachtens nicht selbstverständlich ist. Ebenso ist die Menüführung in Deutsch. Auch dass ich die Daten der Lamdasonde und die Stickoxid-Emissionen vor der Hauptuntersuchung selbst schon mal checken kann empfinde ich als sehr nützlich, denn es erspart vielleicht ungewollte Überraschungen. Entgegen den App-Systemen kann ich mit diesem Gerät viele Funktionen meines Autos abfragen, und im Fall der Fälle vielleicht vermeiden einer Werkstatt allein für das Speicherauslesen oder das Rücksetzen eines Fehlercodes deutlich mehr Geld bezahlen zu müssen, als dieses kleine Gerät überhaupt gekostet hat. Für Kleinigkeiten bei der Selbstdiagnose absolut empfehlenswert. Klar Kaufempfehlung, würde ich wieder kaufen!
