Small Sill Track Cover - 72 in long

the original track was *THAT* bad. Time will tell if I need to put ...
I bought this to make my sliding glass door usable, as the original, 50-ish-year-old door was a total nightmare. The track was chewed up from decades of use, including the occasional failed roller, which inevitably meant the door would be dragged along the track, leading to several dips and ground down sections in the track. This is a heavy door; wouldn't be shocked if it weighs a hundred pounds.First, about the seller: I just used regular shipping, and the 6-foot-long tube was on my front porch DAYS before even the Amazon estimate, so kudos to all involved!ANYWAY, I cut off the excess length (dremel with cutting blade, or hacksaw), cleaned the track area (since I had the door off), and placed it over the original. Using a SMALL hammer, and a junk-mail catalog as padding (so as to not dent the track), I tapped it into place. I put some silicone at the one end and crimped it a bit with pliers, because it would lift just the slightest bit, and may have to do the other end, as there's a SLIGHT bit of movement; the original track was *THAT* bad. Time will tell if I need to put more silicone at the other end and roll over it, just for my own piece of mind. Overall, the weight of the door will hold it in place. Most things people buy are "okay," and may even be a good value and useful, but don't really add to the quality of life; this is one of those things that every time you use it - and being a DOOR, you WILL use it a LOT - you'll think it's one of the best things you ever bought. Every time you pass through, or let the dog out/in/out/in/out/in - you get the picture - without struggling to keep it on track, or from it binding as it crosses a dip, you'll know this simple little piece of metal that takes less than 30 minutes from opening-the-tube to putting the door back on is one of the best home improvement investments you can make. Saved me HUNDREDS of dollars on replacing the entire unit, as home improvement stores don't seem to carry these parts. Sliding door assemblies themselves are several hundred dollars, plus installation, if you can't do it yourself.Good luck!

Great Idea
This product would work awesome for someone repairing a screen door track, as a screen door is light weight, but using this for a glass door can be a challenge. 1st, be aware that this track cover will slide back and forth on the track when being used for a glass door and because of this mine got slightly curved before I realized what was going on, as I was attempting to adjust the rollers. The second attempt at install I used liquid nail under the sill track cover and let it sit on the track for a hour which did help, but the cover still managed to slide about 1/4 inch off the track (which is fine, but annoying). Couple things I would of done differently: 1. I won't of cut the sill track cover (I cut it to match the length of the actual track I was repairing). Leaving the cover uncut would of made the sliding of it not so noticeable and maybe reduced it as it wouldn't of had as much room to slide back and forth. I would love to redo this entire install, but unfortunately for the price I will live with what I have for now which is better than how the damaged track was. Also, the packaging of this item was done really really well as it came in a thick cardboard tube with plastic caps. Worth noting is also replace the rollers on my door at the same time.

This works GREAT!! Should have bought it a long time ago
This worked GREAT!!!! I should have bought one of these a long time ago!. We have been opening our 7 foot tall sliding glass patio door slowly for a few years now as the track had a dip in it causing the door to thump. The dip was almost a quarter inch down and about an inch long (this is the worst point as it grew through time). I knew about these track covers but didn't know how I was going to get that heavy door off the track. Finally I decided I was going to figure it out and read comments about this sill track and one person mentioned sliding it under the door and while it was on the track and lifting it up a bit without taking it off and he said it worked great. I ordered this track then and went to my garage and made 2 wedges. I taped them under each side of the door lifting it up and slid the track cover under the door (taping it down, snapping it over the old sill track and then sliding it). when I had about a 18 inches left to go I taped it on the end with a hammer and made it the rest of the way. I then took a dremmel and cut the last inch and a half off and then tapped it down. It worked GREAT!! I thought it might dip again where it went over the bad part of the sill track but this material is strong enough for my damaged rail. THANKS!! It works like new again just as advertised.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC THAT SOMEONE THOUGHT TO CREATE THIS PRODUCT!
Never thought that the track on my patio door would wear out and fail but it did. The door was difficult to open because the wheels would stick in the disintegrating track. This product requires only minor modification (cut to length) and is made of better material than the track it is repairing (stainless steel). You can use an adhesive if you desire to affix the track if you so desire. I did to make absolutely sure it stays put. The door works far better than it did when it was new. The only option to this repair would be to replace the entire door track (if it is available as a separate part) and in my case that would require breaking the surrounding stucco and having to later replace it. If you aren't a DIYer, this could cost hundreds of dollars. It's amazing someone developed this product. Worthy of note: as this track cover is six feet long, I was skeptical how it could be shipped without being bent and damaged. It is shipped in a heavy shipping tube that you could jump on without it collapsing. I almost think that the shipping should cost more than the part but it didn't.
