Soda Ash - (SODIUM CARBONATE) also known as washing soda. In domestic use, it's used as a water softener during laundry. Sodium Metasilicate - A major use is as a builder (a material that enhances or maintains the cleaning efficiency of a surfactant, principally by inactivating water hardness) in soaps and detergents Sodium Chloride - Sodium chloride, also known as common salt, table salt, or halite. As well as the familiar uses of salt in cooking, salt is used in many applications, from manufacturing pulp and paper to setting dyes in textiles and fabric, to producing soaps and detergents. Citric Acid - This is a weak organic acid. It serves as an environmentally benign cleaning agent and acts as an antioxidant. The Detergent is a coconut based (LAURYL) Ethoxylated fatty alcohol. Coconut oil on its own will wash nothing. It is therefore chemically modified so that it becomes surface active and thus performs like a detergent. This commodity is widely used by many detergent manufacturers because it is readily biodegradable, non toxic and mild and efficient. It is also NOT Petroleum based. Is the Laundry Soda scented? Traditional laundry detergents use scent to mask odors rather than remove them. Many people associate the fresh smell of scented products with cleanliness. Traditional soaps will clean and scent the surface but may not actually penetrate the material. Once the fragrance from the detergent dissipates, the musty smell may return. Nellie's laundry soda is unscented and designed to penetrate the fabric as well as remove the odors, not mask them. Nellie's rinses clear and leaves no residue. Do I put the Laundry Soda in the dispenser of my washing machine? If you have an HE front load washing machine, they recommend adding the Laundry Soda directly in the drum with your clothes. The newer machines and HE machines do not have enough water pressure to fully clean out the dispensers of Nellie’s Laundry Soda. Sprinkle it evenly over the clothes to prevent clumping. Where is my scoop? If you are having trouble finding your scoop in the bucket, it has probably been sifted to the bottom during shipping. The measurement is 1 tablespoon per regular load. How many scoops of Laundry Soda for a big load? The recommended use is 1 tablespoon for each medium/regular load, which equals to about 6 lbs of laundry. If you have an HE machine, a large load is approximately 11 lbs. In this case, you can use 1 ½ – 2 tablespoons. The important thing to remember is that while the scoop size looks small, it’s very strongly concentrated and powerful! Can I use the Laundry Soda in my HE machine? Absolutely! Nellie’s Laundry Soda is certified for high efficiency machines and regular top loading washing machines, and dissolves completely in hot or cold water. Can I use bleach with the Laundry Soda? Nellie always believed in a greener world, that’s why all their products are 100% biodegradable and eco-friendly. They don’t suggest using bleach liquid as it harms the environment and your fabrics.
