Inspiring and entertaining read with actionable ideas
This is a great read for forward-thinking leaders--leaders who realize it's no longer enough to just run the business of today based on historical 'best practices'. I deliver workshops that help leaders change their mindsets and behaviors in order to evolve their organizations and this book is a perfect resource to add to the reading list because it provides specific, actionable advice on HOW to think differently. The authors advocate that we blow up 7 'playbooks' leaders conventionally use to run their organizations and replace them with alternative methods for running a more agile, adaptive business or function. There are great stories and examples, and the suggestions are the kinds of things you can start doing tomorrow. The book is written in an approachable, conversational, slightly irreverent tone, which makes it easy and fun to read. This book is great for anyone looking for a quick shot of inspiration and new ideas for getting their organization unstuck from the status quo.

Thought Provoking & Instructive
The authors take on what we believe to be simple truths, and turn them on their heads. It's a thought provoking, instructive read that will help bring new questions to old answers, and new ideas to old habits. Highly recommended for anyone trying to get a handle on finding simplicity on the other side of complexity!

Great, informative and interesting read.
Great, informative, quick read. Covers a lot of interesting and relevant issues and a snappy and interesting manner. Plentiful anecdotes and cartoons provide vivid examples of how well-intentioned corporations go wrong. The authors have clearly drawn on a lot of personal experience in real-world situations.

Don't expect to get much value by purchasing this book and giving it a quick read!
Just OK, thus the 3-star rating. The “book” is short at barely 200 pages long. And the page dimensions are small, too. I suspect it can easily fit in a woman's typical purse if it had to. But I also wasn't crazy about how the authors write. Chapter 1 is really an introductory chapter and I wish it had been labeled as such. Chapter 2 wasn't worth much. And since Chapter 3 was the meat of the “book” I cannot help wonder why it was so poorly written and so short. The book is written by two consultants who work for Deloitte Consulting. And what they write about is supposedly what they do for a living. They get paid by large companies to identify areas of waste or find lost opportunities. Basically they advocate how to improve systems or modify business models. In writing this “book” they basically want to remind the reader that one should never stop thinking outside the box and be imaginative rather than lazy-minded. They don't specifically say it, but after reading the book I felt like they were saying: If it's worked for 50 years, then it's probably time to change it.I didn't particularly find the book to be timely. The main reason the authors have a job is computers and technology have changed the playing field for large companies. But this has been the case since I graduated college back in the mid-80s. Computers and technology keep changing, so business leaders have to continue to make changes at their companies.I actually could have rated this book lower since I didn't find it to have much value. But the star rating definitions I use don't include value as part of their definition. I'd have to dislike the book to give it a 2-star. And I'd have to hate the book to give it a 1-star. I certainly don't hate the “book.” And the authors didn't do anything to make me dislike it. 3-stars!

Ratings of books - Detonate and Provoke
Provoke and Detonate are two excellent books not only from the standpoint of leadership but also from a psychological and coaching perspective. As a psychologist, executive coach and professor, I very much appreciate the authors' understanding and sharing their interpretation of best practices in relation to psychological theories (e.g. cognitive biases, learned helplessness....)

Great read for small business managers
I run a business with under $10 million in Revenue. I have found that most business books are written for managers of larger businesses or units. Detonate has ideas for leaders of businesses of all sizes. Quick read but be sure to have your sticky notes out as you'll want to refer back to pages once you get to the office.

Detonate - could be called "How to make changes without blowing up your business"
Some processes and routines are supportive and beneficial to a business, others have become entrenched in time and no longer fulfil their original function. Change for change's sake is often the mantra for the newly appointed manager keen to put his stamp on his position - but this can sometimes lead to disastrous consequences the least being very unhappy staff. Yet change can be life-saving and extremely beneficial to all kinds of business (not just corporations - the subject of this book). In the new digital workplace, best practices from the past are no longer viable but new replacements haven't yet become familiar. This book aims to change that with robust processes and key guidelines for several main areas that can benefit from an overhaul. The keen new manager should add this book to his reading list.
