The Social Guidebook to Norway: An Illustrated Introduction

Great book for its purpose. My gf is so happy she now has a deeper grasp of the peculiar Norwegian culture. I've read both books in the series and think it very well reflects the odd behaviour foreigners question when they meet Norwegians. Well worth a purchase for annyone dating a Norwegian!!Ps. The price of the product is not harsh at all in contrast to the opinion of one other miffed reviewer. It is actually decent because it reflects printing costs in Norway where the wages are higher and the costs of production is too.

I've bought a few books on Norwegian social norms and found this one to be the best from the point of view of grasping them quickly. Rather than simply stating specific norms, Julien explains the reasoning behind them thereby providing the reader with a better understanding of why things are done the way they are. He does this with the aid of humorous illustrations and a concise use of language. Be aware - section on dating is brutally honest...

I bought this (at three times the price) at the same time as 'The Xenophobes Guide to the Norwegians'. This book, clearly aimed at the business community, who can afford the expense, told me no more and a lot less that the smaller cheaper book. A six-year old could have done the illustrations and there was not as much detail as in the smaller book. So only two stars - tempted to drop it to one though.
