Using Your Brain-For a Change: Neuro-Linguistic Programming Review: Swish! - If you are into nlp, you may notice it can be hit and miss when it comes to finding good books which convey nlp and how to do it in an interesting, fascinating and even an exciting way. Based on Bandler trainings, and edited by Steve and Connirae Andreas, 'Using Your Brain' definitely falls into the hit category. If you are like me, as you read along, it's like being at the actual training doing the actual exercises, learning from observing others, seeing their issues being resolved, appreciating how brillant Bandler's thinking and reframing can be. It's apparent that this book introduces the swish pattern which can be useful for changing compulsions and habits. Working with submodalities was pretty new, and pretty exciting to work on something as one reads along. It's like being present at the invention of the wheel. Submodalities are the finer distinctions of your visual, auditory or kinesthetic representations. For example, if you think about something you like that you would like to dislike, say alcohol or tobacco, your pictures, sounds or sensations of what you like and dislike are probably of a different size and in a different location, intensity etc, so you can change the size and location of what you like to what you dislike, and stop desiring alcohol. Useful. I also like the chapters on belief change, learning, and understanding confusion, which enables you to contrast the different pictures you make in different states, and how you can change them and make them more useful. I used this on singing technique and got many more favorable comments than usual. Steve Andreas book Change Your Mind-And Keep the Change : Advanced NLP Submodalities Interventions was inspired partly by and intended to be read with this book, and discusses many things not discussed in this book such as Timelines, and also discusses the swish and submodalities in even more detail. I hope you find this review helpful, and I believe you will enjoy the book... Review: What I Wanted - Got what I wanted. Another one for the Library.

Great book on Motivation strategies and an explanation of NLP
Great book. I particularly like the section on motivation strategies. Perhaps some school teachers should read this book to understand that their audience all learn at different paces and methods. I liked the example the author gave about giving the drugs to the teachers to take to be at the same speed as their students. Sadly that would not work in most US schools. Kid's are way smarter than adults give them due credit. Share this book with teenagers who are seeking answers to their education questions. School's are essentially dumbing down institutions. That's by design. If you have the chance to send your child to another country's school send them to Finland.

I thought I know everything about NLP, I was wrong.
I got to this book after I read already some stuff of Richard bandler. I thought it will be a repeat, but it wasn't, he explains stuff that I guess he makes an assumption that you already read this book. I understood why the swish pattern works and many other things. this book was insightful for me... I read at least 7 books on NLP...

This book can help you succeed at whatever it is you are doing!
A great, simply written and easy to understand handbook for those who want an introduction to NLP. Use it on yourself, your partner or family, to get rid of phobias, succeed with weight loss programs, stop smoking and feel better about yourself - it's all explained here! Easy to read, easy to follow, easy to do exercises. I recommend it to all my coaching clients, for when I'm not working with them!

Beautiful NLP book.
I bought this book and read it. I am new to NLP field. I am fully satisfied and relieved by knowing the mental processes that affect our behavior and how to modify them. Got rid of some unnecessary mental baggage.I have to read it once again and practice the techniques more and more, to imbibe the concepts more thoroughly.

Use your brain!
I've read my fair share of NLP books. This is by far the best one I have ever read. Richard gives excellent break downs on the fast phobia cure, the belief change pattern, the swish pattern and much more. Richard also has a great sense of humor which made me want to keep reading. I read the book from cover to cover and will definitely read it again. If you are into NLP I would highly suggest picking this one up. The sooner you get this book, the sooner you can start to use your brain for a change!

Good condition.
Glad I got this. Book is in relatively good condition aside from some slight tear on the spine. Otherwise it looks almost new. Now I just gotta find time to read this!

This is a great book on the understanding of the structure our thinking and how we can play with that structure to create empowering change within ourselves and other.

Ich habs zuerst in englisch und dann in deutsch gelesen. having been introduced to nlp via reading books, compared to most of the books i've read, USING YOUR BRAIN FOR A CHANGE sure clears up a lot of misunderstandings with regards to NLP process with regards to submodalities. patterns such as confusion to understanding, belief change, learning how to fall in and out of love, and the swish pattern seemed very easy to execute with the kind of seminar transcript format this book offers. compared to the distilled, step by step format other books have to offer, this book gives a much more complete view on how to execute patterns for change using language patterns. there's a lot of things to absorb here especially the attitude that makes NLP such a wonderful learning experience. i think people should read this before going to trainings to know what the co-creator has to say about NLP learning and change.

Arrived very quickly and for a 2nd hand book as new. This book puts NLP in practical perspective, essential reading for any practitioner of NLP, hypnotherapy or psychotherapy. A very handy book which is a transcript of his seminars and explains a handy toolbox of techniques such as the swish, pulling his approach together holistically. I have come back to edit this. I should have emphasised more how valuable a book this is to therapists, whether psychotherapy, hypnotherapy or NLP, this is invaluable. Perhaps for many client presentations this would be the only resource you need!!! But don't expect to make a fortune unless you construct some added value, its single session and even that will need padding if your client is going to perceive value for money-that is until they realise just how their quality of life has improved? Case Study for the swish. Middle aged female, runs isolated rural B & B and cafe with partner. Not driven for 20 years, gets panic attacks approaching car and freezes completely with white knuckle grip just sitting in drivers seat. I was on holiday, she asked if I might know if psychotherapy could help her as it was severely impacted on her , her partner and the business, they had to close so he could run her, she felt isolated-could not go anywhere, and it impacted generally in that she was in a constant state of tension. Session upstairs with a first comment, it sounds like some more customers, I would normally be running downstairs to help, and we could hear it all clearly. Interview reveals probable cause, do I regress her and have her experience trauma again, even with protection abreaction would be expected, I don't want that here! Used Bandlers swish, straight out of the book, so to speak. Test visualisation positive, told her to get the car keys sit in drivers seat and start it. The car was in the garage, so she had to explain to partner who got it out for her, had to instruct her to depress clutch to start it, what a difference in cars today to 20 years ago, it must have been completely new to her! She was ages I saw her adjust the seat, mirrors, check through all the controls, she was preparing to actually drive and would have done if not a busy bank holiday in the cafe! The measure that she took that in her stride, left it for 4 days before she had the opportunity to drive, and enjoyed it, she knew she did not need to test herself deliberately, she also knew that she also had the confidence, after 20 years of panic attacks. For that lady and her partner, there was a heck of a lot of value in a book for a few quid!
