Identical to the original pump
Replaced the fuel pump in my 1999 Dakota 4WD with the 5.2L engine. The orignal pump was made by Walbro and the check valve failed in it, letting the fuel pressure bleed down almost instantly after the truck was shut off. This made the truck difficult to start, often requring me to crank it for 10 seconds before it would start.I ordered a Bosch pump since I've had good luck with their products and they tend to be good quality and this pump was no exception. Quality wise, it is on-par with the Walbro pump I removed. Actually, probably a bit better. The pump came with a new gasket. To install it, I dropped the tank. I've read where others have had success lifting the bed but I chose to drop the tank. That was an easy thing to do. There are two nuts holding the tank straps to the truck's frame. Remove the four screws holding the filler neck to the box, then remove the two nuts holding the straps in place, and the tank will drop right down. When I did it, I ran the truck until it was on empty and the low fuel light was on. This left 5-gallons of gas in it and it wasn't heavy to remove. My truck has 2" axle blocks which gives the truck enough clearance that the fuel tank slid out without any trouble. The fuel line is held to the pump with a clip connection. There is a special tool that you can use to remove it but I didn't have that tool. I used a screwdriver to press in the clip on both sides and the fuel line came right off. Before you remove the line, remove the fuse for the fuel pump and start the truck and let it run until it dies. There will still be some fuel in the line so cover it with a rag as you remove it from the pump to catch the spilled fuel.To replace the pump, I cleaned the tank with soap and water to remove all grime. The pump is held in place with a large ring which screws in place like a jar lid. I used a removal tool to get that ring off and it was tight. Once it came off the pump lifted right out.To install the new pump, I lubricated the new seal with lithium grease and put it in place. I then slide the pump in and pressed it into the seal. There is an arrow on the fuel pump and two lines on the fuel tank. Align the arrow between the two lines to make sure your fuel gauge works. I then tightened down the ring.Once in, I slid the tank back into place, connected the pump connector and fuel line and pushed it back up between the frame. I installed new nuts on the tank strap studs and tightened them down. The new pump works well. It took a couple of key cycles to pressurize the fuel line and it pressurized to just under 50 psig. I left the gauge on overnight and the pressure dropped only 15 psig over a 12 hour period. The truck now starts right up when I start it and the fuel gauge works like it should.

Fast shipping/wrong part!!
The item shipped really fast. Received the pump in brand new condition for over $100 cheaper than Advanced wanted it for; however, this pump is WAY too big for my truck (like 1/2' bigger than the old pump when we pulled it out). I made sure that I spoke with several different stores to check this was the part I needed since "Special Shipping Information: This item cannot be returned and has additional shipping restrictions." Yea, it isn't the right part for a 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 with QUAD CAB!!!!!!! I made sure to tell each representative I spoke with on the phone all the specifications possible and they assured me this is what I needed. Amazon only has a few drop down options and still lists this as the part needed for a quad cab, but it is not. Now I am still needing a pump and needing to sell a pump since I cannot return. Not happy, but this is what can happen when ordering parts online. The filter is very nice and is indeed the item number listed, just not for my truck. It just really wasn't fun taking the tank down and disassembling to find out you have the wrong item...Don't make the same mistake and get your information from a more reliable source than Advanced Auto!I am giving the item 5 stars because it was exactly as listed, priced perfectly, and extremely fast shipping. It wouldn't be fare to give it a bad score for another store's false information (even though Amazon's drop down says it is for a Dakota quad cab).

Awesome product
I like the product it was very easy to install, The Garage was going to charge me $540 plus parts to install this monster.I went to YOUTUBE and watched a video ordered the part and BAM! I save myself $540 right off the bat.I put this item on a 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT Club cab 4X4 and it runs like new. The symptoms for a bad fuel pump are as follows: you will get a check engine light for #2 cylinder misfire and it continues to do that after you change the spark plugs, coils, cam position, sensor, idle position sensor and flash the computer. Also it will idle rough and will take two to three tries to start it when it is cold. The computer does not have a check engine code for low fuel pressure so it throws out #2 cylinder misfire. Replace the fuel pump and it will fix it..... it will start right up on the first try and run great.
