Middle of the Road
Context: We are still in a coronavirus pandemic. Most rowing machine choices are sold out or will take weeks/months to deliver. I did not want to wait for said amount of time. I like to look for good value.Delivery: Did not pay for faster shipping. Ordered Sunday night. It came Tuesday MORNING, like before 10 am morning. Impressed.Packaging: Product was packed perfectly and logically. I am pretty sure it could have been dropped from like 5 feet and have been fine. I did not wind up with a bunch of Styrofoam pieces everywhere either.Actual Product: Feels like middle of the road quality. I mean that in a good way. It is solid, but you don't feel like you paid an extra $400 for a chest strap or Bluetooth app connectivity or whatever other gimmick you may find. The assembly tools and instruction manual are compassionately made and presented i.e. not confusing. Outside of that let me see...It is definitely a workout. The resistance is adjustable. It is a relatively low spectrum of resistance if that makes sense. The resistance level never gets to the point of challenging where you feel like you are using weight lifting equipment, but the lowest setting is absolutely easier than the highest. I want to emphasize that point. There are reviews on many of these rowers where people comment on the resistance. Rowing machines are NOT a piece of weight lifting equipment. They are cardio machines. For anyone using this machine on the highest setting that complains it is too easy, then the simple solution is to row faster. I guarantee they are not going 32-35 strokes/min or anything like that for 5 minutes let alone 30 minutes. Conclusion:I went back and forth over which rowing machine to purchase for weeks. Air, magnetic, or water? Personally, I purchased this air one only because I did not want to have to fiddle with water purification tablets. I believe the water rowers in general are much more relaxing to use. It seems minor but if you are going to be hearing a loud repetitive noise then 'swoosh' water sounds sound better than the loud air noises. This machine is loud and I use captions when watching tv with it. So why didn't I get the 'silent' magnetic rower? I have never tried one in a gym so I didn't want to take the gamble and deal with returning it if I did not like the feel. My honest opinion is that either one of those three will have your quads spent, and your clothes drenched in sweat. I would recommend getting the rower that fits your budget, but don't get one less expensive than this one. You get what you pay for with cheap ones. I am not giving medical advice but in my opinion: In general, you don't want to cheap out on something that can potentially give you repetitive movement injuries.

Great for home gym! Be sure to check distance/pacing though.
Awesome rower for a home gym. Quiet, smooth, sturdy for big people-250lbs- and and good set programs such as 20/10, timed, customizable. I wouldn’t purchase these to outfit a gym, but great for home performance programs. I don’t think it could handle the use and abuse of all day everyday.I am updating my previous review. Product is still great, but the computer does not accurately measure distance. This may be just my machine, but I have been disappointed with customer service this time. They HAVE been responsive in the past, but not with this issue. I sent pictures with pace and time and emailed 3 times. Crickets!!! I didn't even ask for a new computer, I just want to reset the computer. I've had the machine for over a year and I use the heck out of it. It's still great, but when I started doing distances, I realized that the math was incorrect. I double checked my pace on a C2 at the gym to confirm my pacing and math and it showed that I was right with my math and pacing. I would buy this again, but I would check the distance immediately to ensure that it's accurate before your warranty expires.

A rock solid and very smooth machine
I was looking for something that I could use to get in shape and lose some weight. A rower was recommended to me by someone with some exercise expertise. I was able to test quite a few rowers at health clubs and stores etc. I did lots of research and wanted one that would support my weight and be sturdy. I am 6' 1" and close to 300 lbs. Unfortunately most home fitness equipment is not made for larger people. Which those companies need to consider, So I found this machine by Xterra and it looked solid and would accommodate my size. I received the machine and it was well package. This instructions for assembly were very good and the parts were packaged according to the step described in the instructions. So very easy to assemble, only took about 35 minutes. The machine is rock solid and very smooth. Also, the seat is comfortable. The pull is very smooth and the whole moment with rowing and the seat and the pull is very smooth. This compares very close to a machine I tried in a gym that costs more that twice the amount. I have been using it twice a day for about 3 weeks and not a problem. I tested the resistance and it does not fell like a lot or a big change when you change the adjustments . But there really is a big difference. You will only notice a difference after you have been rowing for about 3 or 4 minutes and your endurance is less with more resistance, so it is a usable tool.. The foot print is quit large. When folded up it is not too bad. I use it in a family room and I put it in a corner of the room (folded up) and move it to a bed room when I have people over. I will do an update after I have used it for about 60 days. I would highly recommend this machine. It is rock solid and very smooth.

Great...for 6 weeks
The machine was easy to put together and seemed well built. I was unable to remove the screws necessary to access the panel where I needed to insert batteries for the display panel -it felt like one of the screws might have been stripped. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. The resistance is decent and I used it daily for between 45 and 90 minutes. Well, I used it daily for about 6 weeks after which it broke. One day as I started to use it, there was a strange sensation like something just wasn't catching and then nothing. The webbing must have become detached from the wheel. I got out the tool that came with the unit to try to take that panel apart, but no luck. Terribly disappointed.
