Faberge: The Imperial Eggs Hardcover – October 1, 1989

Another reviewer stated this was the most complete up to pub. date, and I agree. Wonderful quality photos, fascinating essays, and even b/w photos in back, of “missing” eggs.

This review is of the soft cover version as that is what I received, but, for content purposes that is of no consequence. This book was prepared for the exhibition "Faberge: The Imperial Eggs" October 22, 1989-January 7, 1990 organized by the San Diego (California) Museum of Art and made possible by a gift from the Hibben Fund of the San Diego Community Foundation and the subsequent exhibition at the Armoury Museum, State Museums of the Moscow Kremlin, January 30, 1990-March 15, 1990. Of the several books available detailing the Faberge Imperial Eggs this book is more complete than most as it contains pictures, details, provenance and the most expansive listing of the Eggs in chronological order including the ones that have been lost and are known only by photographs. This book is already somewhat outdated. It must be noted that the Forbes collection, nine eggs and other Faberge pieces, were an important part of this exhibition. In early 2004 the Forbes collection was sold to Russian Industrialist, Victor Vekselberg for an estimated $100 million and subsequently returned to Russia for exhibition. And in 2014 one of the missing or lost eggs, the 1887 Third Imperial Egg containing a Vacheron Constantin watch was found and identified. It was purchased by London based jeweler Wartski on behalf of an unidentified private collector. Wartski displayed the Egg for four days after the purchase. Then it was withdrawn. Presently it is not displayed.

This 11 x 16 "poster size" book contains 26 full page color plates of a few of Peter Carl Faberge's masterpieces. On the adjoining page You will find the dimensions, a detailed description and sometimes a note of interest. Makes a nice coffee table book- just enough info to wet your appetite. Great Photos!

This catalogue is of a high standard in text and illustration. it was good value for money and considering the distance it travelled from the USA to Yorkshire, it arrived quickly. Thank you!
