The Kite Runner

Usually when I think of Afghanistan I think of crazy Muslims who we as Americans think of as terrorists. I think a lot of people including myself will make a general stereotype against people who are afghan or of similar Arab descent .This book proves those stereotypes wrong and will give any reader a more human perspective of Afghanistan. Instead of having the first thing come to mind being "terrorists" or "crazy religious people " , this book will help remind you that Afghans are people just like us . Not all of them choose to behave as those in the Taliban behave . They are victims of war within their own country .I am glad I read this book because it pointed out things I already knew except gave me more detailed descriptions of how things are for a "normal" family in Afghanistan.I won't go into any more detail to spoil the book but I would recommend it for anyone looking for something to give them a more human perspective on what goes on in Afghanistan . It includes universal human themes such as friendship, love , war, betrayal, loyalty , religion , and more.No wonder it's a top rated book .Great read.

I mistakenly purchased the abridged version of the audiobook and kick myself for that. I had some doubts before listening to it, but once it began I knew I should have returned it for the unabridged version. An excellent story of cowardice and then redemption, I found it easy become engrossed in the book and the author made it easy to understand the Afghani culture. The only reason I gave it one star short is because I did not get the entire story with the abridged version.

The sexual content was so minimal I didn't think it counts. The story is so compelling I have listened to it twice and will listen to it again. In fact I loaned my first copy to a friend and it looks like I'm not going to get it back so I bought this as my second copy. Hope others will enjoy it as much as I have. Other audio books by this author are great as well.

One of my all time favorites. Everyone I shared it with truly loved it. Read it, you won't be sorry. The movie sure didn't give me much, though the filming of the kites was amazing, I think.

Loved this book, so sensitive, sent to as a present hope she likes it! Because of her busy lifestyle a reading book made sense.

I needed the unabridged audio. This definitely skips paragraphs and whole pages of text. Very disappointed. Also disappointed in the narrow window to return this item.

Very good book. I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys great storytelling. Check it out.

I loved this book (CD). I didn't want it to end. I'm glad they followed through all the way to the end on their lives. I hate it when an author leaves you hanging.

Perfct

This was not what I expected at all as a high school English teacher. The CD's are the abridged version, not the full-length novel and, therefore, useless for students. It may have said that it was an edited copy of the story somewhere in the product description but I could not find it. It is a truly magnificent story but I never got what I paid for.
