Q: Will this support 2kgs of camera and macro lens without too much play or affect the smoothness the movement on the rails? Thanks.

I use it with a pro DSLR a Canon 1Ds mk2 Plus Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens and is perfectly ok. I hope this helps

Q: will this fit on my vanguard tripod

Hi Christine, it will fit any tripod that accepts a standard 1/4" threaded screw. The quick release plate should screw directly onto the bottom of the rail but if you want to connect it in a more rigid fashion you may prefer to remove the tripod head altogether and screw it straight into the legs. The Swiss Arca QR plate on the top is to connect the camera to. It is a very solid and precise item; I have not used it very much as my current camera has an excellent focus stacking feature built in.

To add to my previous answer, I used 3mm x 12mm countersunk Hex bolts and that fixed the issue.

Q: Is this compatible with Manfrotto tripods? Will it attach to the tripod head using the quick release plate?

The bottom on the macro focusing rail comes with a 1/4"-20 female socket, which allows you connect to tripods i.e Manfrotto with such 1/4"-20 male thread. Another way to attach to triod is using the Arca-type quick release function bottom to attach to your tripod in case your tripod comes with a quick release function ball head.
