An Amazing Book for SSCP Certification/Work Reference
I would have to say this is by far one of the best intro network security books to have right alongside the ExamCram Sec+ book. Both of these books provide invaluable resource for the Sec+ and SSCP certification exams! I highly recommend one who is planning to test on these, pick up both for you will be patting yourself on the back afterwards! To make this short and sweet, the book goes over each one of the domains which are tested in the SSCP exam. When it explains each topic, the author tries to lay it out in a very clear and understandable explanation. The author also goes into a little detail on the subject while providing real life examples to help you see the subject matter apply in the work center. The book also has a disc with practice questions on it to help ensure you are comfortable with the subject matter which it taught.I currently work in a job which uses networking and security, but also had a college class right before the SSCP exam so I decided to go ahead and take the plunge and grabbed this book. I studied and read everything in this book, highlighted, and used to practice exams on the disc. I passed the SSCP 14 Mar 14. This book covers everything they will teach on the exam. Ensure you read through it and try to understand how each of the topics works and will be applied in real life (which the book gives great examples!).Overall, I highly recommend this book and the Sec+ ExamCram for your Sec+ and SSCP certifications. If you dedicate enough time into learning the material, you will be able to pass both exams and be certified!

Great Study Guide!
I took the SSCP exam today and passed! This book along with the book I used for Security+ prep were my only resources. Because the exam does not give you a score I have no way to know how well I did, only that I passed. That said, I feel as though about 20% of the exam covered material I had not seen in the study guide. That may be due the the rate at which (ISC)2 updates exam content and not necessarily the fault of the author or publisher. I read the study guide cover to cover twice as well as performed all the end of chapter quizzes and the two CBT practice exams on the CD. I will say the practice exams are a bit too easy compared to the real exam. My recommendation the author and publisher would be to make the practice exams much more challenging. Overall, a very well written exam prep guide. The only other criticism I have is in regard to the many grammatical typos and one area where there was contradictory information. On page 77 it states IPSec AH protocol ID is 51 and ESP protocol ID is 50 (correct) then on page 105 it says the exact opposite (incorrect). That was the only contradiction I recall so overall not too bad. I guess that is where using multiple study resources can be helpful. Now...on to the CISSP!!! :)

Passed the test on the 1st try with only this book
When I ordered this book it sat collecting dust for 2 months. Like a lot of IT guys I prefer to learn by hands on experience and not by spending hours reading documentation. I was dreading reading this as I figured it would be long, technical, and dry; Surprisingly its it not that bad. Before I discuss the merits of this book let me just give some background. I have been working in IT for about 14 years now doing everything from help desk to system administration. My only formal education into the field is a 2-year A.A.S. degree in LAN Management which I received about 8 years ago. While I have done all sorts of IT work none of the focus has been solely on security. If you have any sort of experience in the IT field probably 40% of what is in this book will be review. Most people taking this test will know about the different types of networks and mediums and be at least somewhat familiar with the basics concepts of SSL, 2 factor authentication, etc. While I could have skipped over some parts of the book I chose not to as it did give me a good opportunity to review some of the topics which I hadn't read about in years. The book has a short quiz at the end of each chapter and comes with a cd which I think has additional practice questions. My method of studying was reading each chapter and completing the quiz at the end of each one. I would try to read one chapter a day, sometimes 2. I did not use the supplementary cd. After reading each chapter I found myself at least getting 80% on the quizzes. Any questions I got wrong I went back and reviewed. When it came time to take the test I wasn't sure what to expect. The only knowledge I had was from this book (and previous experience). The questions on the exam are extremely similar to the end of chapter quizzes and almost every question draws from exactly what was written in this book. I think even if you already had the knowledge beforehand, reading the book it would still be very helpful as the answer choices on the test feel like sentences pulled directly from the book. The bottom line is this book was instrumental in me passing the test. If you have a good amount of IT experience and can grasp technology concepts easily this book should be all you need. The test is $250 though so do what you feel is most comfortable for you.

Well Written Tech book
I recently Took the ISC2 SSCP exam and passed, the exam in itself was hard and there is not much material covering the new ISC2 SSCP exam objectives. This book and Material on the CD was extremely well put together & without it I know I wouldn't have stood a chance against the exam. Everything it states on the cover of this book is correct and the practice questions were good and explanations even better. If anything the only downside is not enough practice questions.

Great book, but it does not cover all the SSCP exam topics
I just finished my SSCP examination. This was the only resource I used and I have to say that it does not cover all the topics touched by the exam. I would say that about 20 questions out of 125 were not covered in the book. I answered to some of them using my general knowledge, but for a few I just had to guess.Just this book is not enough for the exam. I will buy the official textbook and use it if I will have to retake the exam.Other than that, the text is fairly informative and the explanations are clear.
