Walt Disney The Art Of Animation: The Story Of The Disney Studio Contribution to A New Art Hardcover – Import, January 1, 1958

I'm not really sure why I'm writing a review on a book that's almost impossible to come by, but since I was lucky enough to score a copy I might as well encourage others to do the same if they get the chance.What makes this book so interesting is that it's likely to only major thing written about the Disney studio from when Walt Disney was still alive. Countless books have been written about the Disney studio of this period, but they're all recollections of the past. This one is a rare first-hand account in the present tense.There's plenty of artwork in this book that I haven't seen elsewhere. They're largely from the various features they'd made up til then, and very little from the shorts.Most of it deals with Sleeping Beauty, which was just about the come out at the time. There are many great bits of artwork from the making of the film, including some beautiful Eyvind Earle paintings.It also hints at the transition period animation was in at the time; mentioning UPA and the push toward more limited animation, as well as the cost burdens that led to the more economic Xerox style of later Disney films.All in all, if you love Disney and just happen to have $60+ laying around, this is a good book to spend it on.
