You will not believe these bowls were made without a lathe! 30 projects for crafting beautiful bowls with the more accessible scroll saw instead of a lathe Progressive learning format gradually helps beginners move from the most basic starter bowl to more elaborate projects Projects include laminated swag bowls, a flared lobed bowl made with varied angles, a thin, eight-segmented bowl, and an inward curving bowl Original patterns for other types of vessels include a vase, a ginger jar, and a candy dish Author Carole Rothman is a popular woodworker who writes for Woodworker's Journal and provides frequent video tutorials While wood bowls are commonly made on a lathe, this updated and expanded guided resource offers 30 projects for crafting beautiful bowls with the more accessible scroll saw. Each project contains clear instructions and beautiful illustrations. The projects are organized in a progressive learning format, so everyone can find something exciting to make—even a new scroller! Beginning crafters can start with the most basic starter bowl and gradually work their way toward more elaborate bowls—such as laminated swag bowls; a flared lobed bowl made with varied angles; a thin, eight-segmented bowl; and an inward curving bowl. Original patterns for other types of vessels include a vase, a ginger jar, and a candy dish. For advanced wood crafters, an appendix expands upon the earlier material and pushes the wood artist to create new patterns or adapt the existing ones to create art of your very own. With Scroll Saw Wooden Bowls from Carole Rothman, you will learn to make such amazing bowls on your scroll saw that you and your friends won't believe they were made without a lathe! Review: Fox Chapel Publishing is the best in the genra - Excellent book for making bowls and vases using a scroll saw. Similar bowls can be made with a band saw, requiring a grain following cut through each ring. With a scroll saw, only a small hole is required to be drilled on the edge of the rings. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. As with any type of woodworking, basic shop tools and safety gear are needed. The scroll saw does most of the work, but it can't do everything. I have several books from Fox Chapel Publishing. they can't be beat. Review: Super book for beginners and experts - The book is just what I was looking for, it shows the steps and measurements needed for each project.

Don’t like the pattern sizes
All the patterns need to be enlarged before you can use them to make bowls. I don’t have access to that type of copier.

A must Have For A Scrolling NEWBIE!!!
I am brand new to scroll sawing, as a matter of fact I believe seeing this book pushed to buy a scroll. Granted it is a entry level saw but it is one that I can learn from. For a beginner such as myself the author has a way of making the reader feel and believe that as the projects they have in this book are possible. There are so many tips and tricks that had not even seen on YouTube. I'm a huge YouTube fan and was hesitate to buy this book believing that all that there is to learn is already out there, I was dead wrong!!! If you are new to scrolling this is a must buy, trust me you won't be disappointed with what you will learn. For some reason I am not able to put a picture up but I made a bowl using this book 2 hours after I received it. Get it and make some bowls.

This works well for the beginner or someone with some skills already. Clear easy to read instructions. I've already adapted some of the patterns for different items.
