Great reflex sight, built like a tank, batteries not included! (or even necessary!)
I've only used this once, but so far I'm very impressed with it. The triangle reticle offers the quick pickup of a red dot for shorter distances, with the precision of a iron sight for longer distances. I zeroed it at 100 yards using the top tip of the triangle as the point of impact. In that regard, it reminds me of an old Mauser front sight, it works quite well. Shots can be quickly placed in a center-mass sized target at 50 yards or closer by using the whole triangle as a large red-dot. This sight is built like a brick schit-house, you would probably have to go to great lengths to damage it. It's nice to not have to worry about batteries since it runs on fiber-optic in the daylight and tritium in the dark. It's also nice not to have to turn it on or off, it's always "on". The one issue that often comes up when reading reviews about the M21 is reticle wash-out. If you're in a dark place (inside a dark room for instance) and you're aiming into a bright place (out the window of the dark room into the daylight) it can wash out, depending on how bright it is outside and how dark it is inside. This really isn't a problem for me, however. I shoot at an outdoor range that has a roof over the firing line. Shooting from the shade to the bright sunlight wasn't a problem at all, the reticle was bright and crisp. About the only bad things I can say about this sight are the slight possibility of reticle washout and it's weight, it is heavy at nearly a pound. But these aren't very big problems to me, I feel the positives far outweigh the negatives of this sight. This is a fantastic relfex sight for the AR platform, and would be right at home on many other tactical-type rifle platforms as well.

Excellent Sight
Haven't had a chance to try this unit out yet since I received it, but it seems to operate as well. The triangular reticule is much small than I thought and actually looks more like a dot. Nicely made, appears very sturdy since the body is mostly aluminum. Adapter works very well and makes taking this sight on and off very quick and easy. Will update as soon as possible. ** Aug 2013 ** OK, so I finally was able to test this sight our since I was able to acquire ammunition for my AR's (5.56 & 300 BLK). Keeping in mind that I am limited to an indoor range with a maximum 25 yard distance, I was very impressed with this sight. At that range, I was able to keep my shots clustered in a group of about 5" to 6" in diameter while rapid firing .... basically using a life size body shaped target, all rounds were kept dead center in the center of the torso where I had the triangle placed. My friend was impressed enough that he is thinking of buying on as well. Yes, there is a slight issue with washout when transitioning from a dimly lit to brightly lit area (for the target), but the triangle was still visible enough to allow me to keep 100% of my shots in the center mass of a human sized torso. ** Sept 2013 ** After working with this sight more on my various rifles & pistols, I have found it to be very accurate and has maintained zero perfectly when swapped between 5 different guns. Also it perfectly co-witnesses with my Troy Battle Sights. At nearly half the cost of a Trijicon SRS that I was considering, I plan to purchase several more for each of my rifles in the near future. My only gripes with this sight are: 1. No option to allow user to change reticle pattern or size 2. No option to change reticle color (reddish orange can be difficult to see on some surfaces) But that is all part of K.I.S.S. so have to make do with these limitations

Simply awesome
My mission was to build an effective, durable, and rugged battle rifle. The Mepro 21 is not only the first Mako product that I've actually been satisfied with, but it has exceeded my expectations for a battery-less holographic sight. I've read a few reviews on this product and have seen some people complaining about the way it looks mounted on their rifles. Not only does it do the job, but, aesthetically, it is pleasing as well. It's not that heavy. The quick attach levers worked perfectly and gave it a snug and secure fit on my rifle's rails. Low Light Test: I blacked out my room completely and could still see the optical just fine. Bright Light Test: On a sunny and abnormally warm day I saw the optical with ease. Also, it's cheaper than an EOtech. And guess what? No more batteries either. This sight is the real deal. My one complaint is that the optical can be lightly blurred at times. I attribute this to the light level. It seems to struggle when looking through rooms with different light levels. For example, while sitting in a dark room and attempting to focus the sight on a target in another room that was well lit, I experienced a bit of fading with the optical. While it wasn't impossible to see the optical, the fading was definitely noticeable. This technology is still relatively new, so I expect that Mako will eventually find a solution to this minor bug.

Great Optic
General Pros & Cons: Pros: - Built like a tank - Reticle brightness adjusts very well to current lighting - Reticle is easy to acquire - No batteries - Co-witness (in bottom 3rd) with AR platform - Price includes mount - no extra $100+ to make it usable Cons: - There is still washout when looking from dark room to lighter area (The bane of all reflex sights) - Also washout when looking from well-lit (sunlight) to dark room (reticle can get so bright it obstructs what you can see in darker room. Covering/Shading with opposite hand helps, but then you're not as stable shooting). Other Thoughts: I have seen that one reviewer mentioned some play between the optic and it's mount. When I received mine, this play was also present - I can move it ~1/16th of an inch but it springs right back. So I contacted Mako Industries directly, since it almost appeared to me to be an intentional feature. The Rep at Mako explained to me that this play IS part of the design to reduce damage from recoil. The reticle holds zero without any problem. This Optic is an EXCELLENT optic. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the washout - which seems unavoidable with all battery-free reflex sights. Also, in retrospect, I think I would have preferred the triangle reticle over the bullseye - but that's just my opinion. I like the idea of using the top point of triangle as the point of aim better, as with the bullseye, the top portion of ring obstructs what you can see above your point of aim. I highly recommend this optic.

Expectations Well Met.
I've used an Aimpoint Comp ML2 on my Springfield Socom 16 for a few years now, but have been looking for a 1x optic that will allow me to shoot more accurately out to 200+ yards. I read about Meprolight's 12 moa triangle reticle and decided to try it out. I am very impressed by this scope. Triangle is clear and sharp, no visual artifacts. By placing target on the tip of the triangle I've been shooting well, out to 200+ yards. Windage and elevation adjustments are 1 moa, firm clicks, easy to use. The viewing window is large and allows for both-eyes-open shooting. The glass is tinted a gentle green, which both accentuates the orange triangle and is restful to the eye. I like the sight picture better than my Aimpoint. Before purchasing, I read reviews that mentioned the possibility of "reticle washout." I shoot at a gun range where the benches are in a very shaded spot, and shooting out into bright sunshine has worked perfectly well. If you aim into a Very bright light, of course you lose reticle intensity, but that holds true for all red dots. Optic is well made, rugged, comes with quick release mount (easily adjusted), no batteries needed - I love it. Highly recommend. Comes with a neoprene cover. And it's fully half the price of a new Trijicon reflex sight. Note: In order for this optic to fit on my Springfield Socom 16, I needed to modify the scout rail. For the M21 quick release mount to fit, I had to file off the ridge on the scout rail closest to the muzzle. Not a problem; the scout mount is aluminum and easy to file. It does not interfere with attaching other optics including my Aimpoint. The M21's rear bolt fits in the notch just behind the blank in the middle of the scout scope rail, and the forward bolt fits in the space cleared by filing off the foremost ridge.Hope this is helpful to those who own a Socom 16.

Great Purchase X 2
I put this on my Kel-Tek KSG. It is the perfectly complemented sight system for that weapon. Quick, smooth and tough. I sighted it in at 40 yards for slugs, and it shoots perfect tight patterns of .00 Buck at 15 - 20 yards. It's like firearm and sight system were made for each other. I added some flip up iron sights as a backup and am set. I like it so much I ordered a second one for a 9mm. carbine I own. Update: 04-04-16 - Ordered a second Meprolight M21 and mounted it on my UZI semi-auto carbine. Another perfect match. it was simple to mount on both weapons with the right hardware, and very quick to sight in. I don't know what the few others are complaining about as far as "washout'. I live in Nevada, shoot at an outdoor range, and practice low light transitional building clearing (light to dark to light). I have no problem. I love this optic system. You just have to know what it is, and how to use it. It is rugged, tight, clear, and tough. Quick to acquire the triangle and point of aim on the target, with both eyes open, while on the move. It is not an ACOG, nor is it trying to be one. For me, it fits into the category of the EOTECH. I am very pleased with these purchases.

Fantastic sight!
I guess the other two previous reviews on this sight were low enough to prompt Amazon to lower the price by $200 for a short time. If that was the reason, thanks guys! I got this sight for less than $350. Other seller's reviews on this sight (various reticles) are all in the 4 to 5 star range. It's well over $500 elsewhere. If it's good enough for the Israeli Defense Forces, it's good enough for me. It's battle-tested, built to take a beating, never needs batteries, and it's always on and ready. Sure I've heard the comparisons with sights with batteries and there is a trade-off in brightness in some situations. But that trade-off is well worth it in my opinion. I'm very happy with this purchase. Update 5/11/2014: One complaint about this sight is the washout that is experienced when looking from a darker area into a lighter area, or when using your mounted flashlight in a dark room. The reticle can dim significantly or completely disappear. If you shine a flashlight directly into the fiber optic collectors, you will notice the problem goes away, you get a bright, clear reticle. But of course you can't use a regular flashlight for that purpose. Fortunately there is a tiny, mountable LED flashlight you can buy for about $30 called the Wash Out Remover (W.O.R). It's about a half-inch long, mounts directly on the M21, and runs off of 3 watch batteries. Completely solves the washout problem for the M21.

Quality and Performance
Used the Bullseye reticle M-21 - tossed it on an Arsenal SAM7SF AK in 7.62x39 and did a quick zero. Coming from the world of aimpoint and Eotech, I was curious how it would perform. Ran some CQB and it worked flawlessly all morning. Then for the final actual test, shot 3 shots at 300 meters at a silhouette shaped gong, of the 3 shots 2 hits. Cannot complain. Excellent optic, very clear on an overcast day and works well for a myriad of shooting styles. Pros: Clear Reticle, built like a tank, no batteries required, performs exceptionally at a reasonable price. Cons: Washout is real - it’s not a game breaker though. Lens, mine wasn’t polarized - while also not a game breaker - get a polarized lens option. 5/5 will be my standard optic moving forward.
