The best choice for harmonica hymns
I love the layout of this book. Enables you to play hymns in more than one key with more than one type of harmonica. In addition to the songs, there was some great teaching included in this book. I had a lot of fun playing the wonderful old songs. You won't regret getting this book

An excellent intelligently presented collection
This is an awesome selection of hymns, some going back hundreds of years. Mr. Duncan uses a very smart method to assist players of all types of harps. First the written standard music notation is presented, directly below that is the straight harp tablature, then below that the chromatic harp tablature, then finally the cross harp tablature. And what is most unusual, straight and cross harp tablatures are presented in songs written in keys other than the standard C. There are songs in G, D, and F for straight harp. So, if you have a C harp, you can play both the songs written in C for straight harp, and G for cross harp. If you know your chromatic harp well, you can either sight read the standard notation or use the chromatic tablature provided.Another neat addition is that the authors and dates written are noted (where they are known). This is a larger song book, with 111 pages and 99 songs. Included in the song list are many religious themed Christmas songs, like those heard publicly years ago but not any longer due to PC considerations. Very cool stuff.Chord changes are noted above the music notation for accompaniment. All in all, this book is a great buy.

Very pleased with both the music notation and selections
I'm very pleased with this book of music. I particularly like that each piece has both traditional music notation along with tabbing for standard, chromatic and cross-harp. The tabbing also has additional vertical arrows that give duration and other important guidance. The type size and music are large enough to easily read from several feet back. The "chapters" are broken up into keys, so if you choose to play a standard or cross-harp in C, G, D, F or Bb, there is a chapter with music in each of those keys available. The chromatic tabbing is written for a C harmonica, as is most chromatic music. There is also additional information on the note positions on various harmonicas. There are 98 selections. This book is copyright in 1982, so some of the selections are a bit dated, at least in my area. However most are still in use. I haven't found any other harmonica music book with such a wide selection that is as well done.

This is a great self help music book, easy for old eyes and beginning player
I am just tinkering with the harmonica during these no outside times. Having a simple tablature, along with the lyrics and music, allows me to fake the harmonica and when the mood strikes to play my trumpet or just sing. The hymns are a lot of songs that I grew up with. I sometimes play from the hymnal prior to my personal bible study, prayer time, or just worship. You will be blessed if you are over 50ty.

Great for worship songbook. A companion to the harmonica player to add to the worship experience at church. One book every Christian harmonica player should have on the music stand.

A hymn to the harmonica(s)...
A great book of hymns for the harmonica or should that be harmonicas? The hymns are laid out inmusical notation and harmonica tablature for the 10-hole C diatonic (the book can also be used withG,D,F and B flat 10-hole diatonic harmonicas), the 12-hole C chromatic and cross harp. The tablatureblow and draw notes are nicely arranged vertically for each note and each harmonica type. There are 98hymns in all from, in alphabetical order, Abide With Me to Wonderful Words of Life. There is one hymnwhich is not included and that is Nearer My God to Thee. The blow notes are marked with the arrow in "^" symbol and the draw notes with the arrow out "v" symbol for the 10 hole diatonic and the 12-hole C chromatic. The cross harp has the same blow/draw arrangement with some additional information on note bending and cross harp pitch. The tablature is well laid out and easy to read and you can choose which tablature you are interested in - according to what type harmonica you are playing. All in all, a superb book of hymns for the harmonica.P.S.The 10 hole C diatonic tablature for Nearer My God to Thee is: 8 -8 7 7 -6 -6Near-er, My God to Thee, 6 7 8 -8Near-er to Thee, 8 -8 7 7 -6 -6E'en though it be a cross 6 7 -7 -8 7th-at rais-eth me! 9 -10 9 9 8 9Still all my song shall be, 9 -10 9 9 8 -8Near-er, my God, to Thee! 8 -8 7 7 -6 -6Near-er, my God, to Thee! 6 7 -7 -8 7Ne-ar-er to Thee!Where the - before the number means "draw".
