First cast, BAM! Land a Large Mouth...BEST REEL RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX !
PRO: First cast, land a fish... how perfect is that?Works perfect right out of the box, attache and go...CON: The "Red Cajun" fishing line is kind of goofy, but it'll work until I restring these. Not really a con, just a preference.I don't care if this looks like a 9 year old's fishing reel,it works for me and I spend less time fixing / messingwith tangled up fishing line. I've used Zebco reels mywhole life, and anyone who makes fun of me, canjust pick their jaw up off the floor when they see all mycatches...example, got this first cast of the day... LOL!WOULD BY AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.Hey Zebco, make some new models of this would ya?SOme blacks, gray, greens, reds, etc. thicker handles, different types of buttons, etc. go crazy!

Return process was easy and Hassel free
Junk. Fell apart right out of the box. Returned immediately. Return process was easy and Hassel free. They don't make Zebcos like they used to.

You need strong hands to use this reel
This is a big reel and the thumb button spring takes way too much continuous pressure to hold the it down. Maybe there was something designed wrong with this part of the reel but I couldn't use it the way it was and returned it to Amazon as defective. I have been fishing over 50 years and this is the first spincast I have used that was this difficult to use due to the overly strong release button spring. I have had other Zebco reels such as the 33 Classic and they didn't require this much thumb strength. Going back to my trusty AbuMatic 170.

Zebco needs to work on quality control
I like this reel, but the action on it is uneven and tends to get hung up. Taken it out a few times. I like Zebco, but for the $40-50 I spent on this when i got it i expected better.

Decent Medium Duty Spincast Reel
The 733 Platinum is a great choice if you are looking for a hassle-free reel for medium freshwater applications. The Platinum series (5 bearings) is definitely a major step up from the standard 733 with one bearing. The retrieve is smoother and overall the reel just feels more solid. My main complaint is the marketing of this reel as a Heavy or Medium/Heavy spincast reel. The reels come pre-spooled with 20-lb test, but, in my opinion - this is not a 20-lb class reel. Load this reel with 12-14lb test line and keep the lure/sinker weight under 2 ounces and it works great. But, with a maximum capacity of 90 yards of 20-lb line, you can actually "spool" yourself when casting heavier weights. Out of the box from the factory I paired this reel with a 7-foot Shakespeare Catfish Ugly Stick and a bare 2-ounce sinker just to test cast it a few times. On the second cast the line and sinker just kept on going as the spool was emptied of line. Also, (after respooling) I noted that even though the gear ratio on this reel is 2:58/1 (slow, but powerful retrieve) the reel felt like it was straining to retrieve a 2-ounce weight through minimal river current. So, for a medium application, this is a nice reel, drag works well and casts great on lighter line. If you are looking for a true Medium/Heavy spincast reel, however, check out the Zebco ProStaff 888.

A Reel Deal
The Zebco 733 is a good reel for any fisherman. I've used it to teach my boy to fish, I've used it to haul in channel cats, I've used it for bass and crappie. It is very versatile, but I've noticed better performance with 10-17lb test line. Like any reel, it still requires a bit of maintenance once a year. The extra ball bearing make a difference in the smoothness vs the standard 733. I recommend this reel to anyone.

Good for Bluegill only...Unworthy of Zebo's reputation.
My primary reels are Shimano baitcasters but I always have a couple spincasts on board. I fish for anything that bites but regularly catch 2-4 lb Bass. These reels last about 6 months to a year max, them you begin to feel the bearings grinding. These make good bluegill reels but that's about it. If your teaching a child how to fish get one of these, if you actually fish, go with something better cause these are not the Zebco's of old they will not hold up.
