IOTA Engineering IQ4 Smart Charger

Performs well and worth the purchase.Since I received it, we've been at RV parks on shore power until 10 days ago. Since then this shows its stuff.What used to take a couple hours to charge the motor home house batteries, and then only to 12.6 VDC. With this plugged in, they charge in about half the time and up to 13.0 - 13.2 VDC that the deep-cycle batteries should be.

I had an older iota converter in my RV and noticed a weird telephone like socket on the top- I did a little research and realized this product was out there to improve the battery charging function when the RV is on hookups. It seems to work great- I used a voltage display to see what it’s doing and, sure enough, if the batteries are fairly discharged, the iota controller raises and the voltage to charge faster then runs a few different cycles to maintain the charge. Pretty cool and pays for itself if it extends the battery life.

Works great, exactly what I needed

These take a lot of the stress off of you from overcharging your batteries and keeping them in top shape. I've fried some new 6 volts in the past not knowing these chargers didn't have an auto float and keep feeding my batteries over 14.2 volts. The flashing light on the unit signify what stage it's on, and the manual tells you exactly what it's doing. I confirmed with a voltmeter plugged into the 12v inside my 07 Weekend Warrior FS Superlite and precisely matched the voltages claimed. It works well! Everyone should own this if not equipped with one.

I love this device! I use it in my RV and my batteries are now in good hands, and I don't need to worry when camping long term with hookups. Also, the charging unit, and this IQ4 module are currently charging my lead acid batteries, but I will eventually step up to Lithium Ion or LiPo batteries, which would normally require a different charger altogether. With these IOTA devices, I can simply replace this smart charging module, with another one, designed for the new batteries. Excellent! Easy and relatively inexpensive upgrade, to go along with the very expensive battery upgrade.

I have a 10+ year old Iota 55A charger that the IQ4 module got misplaced for. This got me back up and running without having to use the quick charge plug and monitor the batteries

Am grateful that this controller is available to turn my 2 stage converter/charger (IOTA DLS-45 M Series) into a smart 4 stage charger for such a reasonable price, and that simply plugs in and you are done. Being that the brainless converter/charger was installed on my RV when purchased, can't imagine why the smart option was not selected at the start for the small step in cost. I will look forward to an improved battery life, else I will update this review and rating.

This customized the charger to the type of batteries being charged. Just knowing that the manufacturer has taken the care and pride in trying to make their charger work with the various batteries is reassuring. I used this charger to upgrade a smaller one made by the same manufacturer. I like the onboard fuse protection, but as these chargers are generally mounted in out of the way places they are hard to access all sides. The fuses are on the top of the charger and are secured in place with screws that are well recessed into the charger. As the fuses are very well protected from accidental damage it would have been better to mount them on the front for easier access. If your batteries develop a short the fuses will open to prevent damage to the charger and I have had this happen twice. Overall though this is a premium charger.
