Awesome all terrain car!
Absolutely love this thing, you can make it wicked fast for the pavement, or you can rip it thru some pretty tall grass with ease, loose rocky dirt, gravel, it does great everywhere I have taken it. I also put the Sledgehammer tires on it (Traxxas Part No. 6792) gives much more ground clearance and performs even better off road! This thing is a great in between for high speed pavement running and wild off roading. If you want both sides of an off-road monster truck, and a quick on-road racer this car is excellent for it. Make sure you educate yourself on the workings of gearing and motor temps. Putting in high speed gearing then ripping thru tall grass puts it into thermal shutdown pretty quickly, gear appropriately for your terrain and tires, invest in some motor and ESC cooling, and just have fun! Great car for someone who just wants some all around performance, this car is very adaptable to what you want to do with it!

Update, long term review
Great car after some upgrades. I didnt wait around for stuff to break or really ever get too dirty. I replaced the shocks with gtr and the drive shafts with gpm metal ones. All together an upgrade of less than 140 bucks and now the truck is a monster. It keeps up with my xmaxx and when something breaks its much cheaper to fix. Only break ive had so far is the bead came off a tire but when running 3s with a 13 tooth pinion this will happen sometimes. Glued it back on and good as new. For those wanting a solid start into a great but expensive hobby i highly recommend this car. Then if you want to upgrade to an erevo or xmaxx they will feel like lumbering giants after learning how to drive this car. It is ridiculously fast even out of the box on 3s. 2s aint bad but 3s is where its at if you upgrade a bit

Super fun and durable
REALLY fast and very rugged. Good value for the dollar. Excellent RC car for general use for someone with a moderate amount of experience. When tuned for less performance it is also good for beginners, but has a lot of room to grow as your talents grow. Nearly as fast as the quickest Traxxas trucks, but much less expensive.

Lots of fun, but also be prepared for some immediate repairs/upgrades
So I've had the Rustler for a couple months now and I am happy with it overall. It's my first "real" RC car, and was hopeful to not have to dive into repairs right away, but that's just not reality. From the research I have done, that's just not the case for any RC car if you are playing hard - and this one is no different. You are going to have to be prepared for some upgrades/replacements, and after you get your head wrapped around that, you'll appreciate this is one heck of a cool car (but don't pay the price fluctuation that goes up and down on this - I've seen it anywhere from $399 to over $500 (as it is now of this posting). Don't pay a penny more than $399 - wait out the price to drop again - or buy direct from Traxxas - their all the time price is $419).So the first day out it's a slightly warmer winter day than usual (75ish) and I'm having some fun out back some light jumps, just getting the feel for it and it stops every 8-10 mins of use. I'm running a 3s battery and what was happening was it kept overheating (and this was still running in 50% training mode). I do a little research and this, unfortunately, is very typical. So, I had to run out to the hobby shop and get an ESC fan to deal with that issue. Easy install (about 30 seconds) and completely solved the problem, but $25 add on. If you are running 3s, don't even bother running this vehicle without getting an ESC fan. It's just a 100% necessity. So next issue (again on the first weekend) was I clipped a rock that was sticking out of the ground on the undercarriage causing it to get some air, but upon landing I lost steering. The cause was a tooth on one of the gears in the steering servo broke (baseline ones are plastic - for whatever reason). Not a terribly pricey repair (about $20 to get a metal gear replacement kit - and I have recently seen you can find some aftermarket complete servos that are cheaper than that), but the servo is buried underneath everything, so I was forced to get to know this car and the details pretty quick. If I knew my way around the RC car world I imagine I could have done the repair in about 20 mins or so, but it took me about 2 hours as I was slowly working my way through things.Second weekend out one of the differential yokes from the rear half shaft broke (I was playing pretty hard with it, kinda testing the limits). Like most everything else, it was plastic, and I had to do a repair. Rather than putting back a plastic yoke, I took the opportunity to upgrade the rear shafts to MIP aluminum in hopes I won't run into the issue anytime soon. Moving forward this will be my approach - I am not going to upgrade anything that isn't broke, but when it does break, I will upgrade it accordingly to a metal or better alternative pending availability. So that's all the issues I have had so far, but let me tell you I love this thing. Handles great, fast as heck, can take a beating generally and keep on going. 4WD is great - my son and I create off road challenges uphill through rough paths and the Rustler handles it quick well. At first I was a little upset about having to do repairs immediately, but it was not a bad thing and actually kinda fun and caused me to get to understand the car much more than I would have otherwise. So, in summary, as long as you understand that this vehicle is going to require some downtime for fixes occasionally, you will love it as I do.

Love this truggy!
Just got this today to match my OG rustler 2wd. Out of the box with a 3s this sucker is quick but I can't say it's faster than the 2wd. Just way different. I have bashed this thing for probably 2 hours throughout the day and no issues so far. As others have mentioned the tires are a bit small and I will definitely be upgrading to the Traxxas Sledghammer wheels next. My dogs love to chase this thing and I can easily outrun them.

I love my Traxxas!
The media could not be loaded. This traxxas is built to last. Anyone that complains about this Rustler doesn't know what they're doing. I was playing around too much, and drove right under a moving vehicle. The driver back wheel went right over my traxxas :( ... I thought everything was over with. NOPE! It was completely fine afterwards. Mine is the one with the bright lights :) ...YouTube channel coming soon.

Very Fast
This is a fast RC car out of the box. Lots of fun - so much, that I bought a second one so that my boys could join me.

Best RC ever!
I got into the 1/10 rc hobby starting with a Redcat volcano and loved it, however it broke constantly with every single use and I bought replacement parts each time which really added up so I decided on the Rustler 4x4 vxl and loved it ever since. Only the shocks were damaged under normal use and nothing else is even worn out slightly whereas the volcano was falling apart everywhere imaginable.
