Good basic coffee maker
This is a simple to use basic coffee maker for those that don't want any bells and whistles. It has one control, a start button, that begins the brewing process. It comes with a plastic coffee scoop and a plastic mesh reusable filter basket. It also accepts #4 paper cone filters, which is what I use. After some initial trial and error adjusting the amount of coffee I was using, I found that the Hamswan made a very nice cup of coffee. It was equal to my dearly departed Krups that had been a constant member of the family for many years. The Hamswan seems to be of fairly good build quality and it has real metal on the outside making it rather stylish. I worry a bit about the thickness of the glasscarafe. I guess time will tell. This is not an insulated carafe, it is just made of glass. The only annoying part of this coffee maker are the sight glasses for water level. I have found viewing them from outside of the coffee maker useless. I look at the water level from the inside of the reservoir as I pour in the water and it is easy to determine the level, but I'm sure that's not the way it is to be done. I just can't see the water level from the outside. Aside from this one annoyance, I have been very satisfied with the Hamswan so far. It's good looking, has a small footprint, is easy to use, and makes good coffee.

Great "minimalist" coffee machine ... with one exception
As someone who lives in a home with minimal counter space, and who never needs to program coffeemakers to start early, the Hamswan unit on whole both looks and works great. Operating it is literally as easy as pressing a button (after adding coffee grounds and water, of course), and it makes a full pot faster than any other coffeemaker I've ever owned (and consistently produces great-tasting coffee). That said, the one part that's frustrating in practice is it automatically turning off its carafe heater after only 40 minutes, whereas most others keep it on for around two hours. Yes, this is explicitly mentioned in the description here, and yes, you can simply turn it back on to keep it going, but it's easy to forget and many mornings I go back for more coffee only to find it's turned lukewarm-to-cold (and subsequently have to nuke it in the microwave). Despite its admitted simplicity, I really wish there was a way to change that one setting to allow for varying "carafe on" periods.

Some issues
I chose this one for the design. I needed appearance over features. It is very attractive and streamlined. However, several functional issues. The auto shut off is WAY too soon. Only 40 mins! The lid does not come off of the coffee pot for cleaning which is just crazy. It makes a ton of noise at the end of a brew. It makes a loud obnoxious beep when you turn it on or off. Coffee quality is just ok. Coffee basket is white which is the most impractical color for something that holds coffee! The way it brews somehow causes the grounds to come way up the sides and up to the lid even with only 7 scoops.I love the look of it but there’s enough drawbacks I think I have to return for a better one. It was expensive too considering it has zero features just on and off

Good coffee maker but could use some improvements
Once you make a pot of coffee, it stays warm for 40 minutes then goes off. I wish there was an option to extend this. I make coffee early and my husband drinks it a little later so it would be nice to have an optional setting for more time. You can turn it on again to keep warm for another 40 minutes but I don't always remember to do this.I'm not sure if it's the design of the pot, but the coffee always seems to leak out while I'm pouring. My husband reported the same thing. Kind of annoying to have to clean the counter after pouring a cup.Otherwise I like the sleek design and compact size- doesn't take up too much counter space. The filter is easy to clean and spares me for using the paper filters which seem wasteful, although less messy.

It’s smaller than what I thought it was. (Read the title carefully)
When I read it would make 10 cups of coffee, I thought it was 10 regular cups (I missed the word small), in reality the pot makes 5.25 cups. When you drink coffee, like my wife and I do, we have 4 cups total. However, our coffee cups hold about 1.5 to 2 cups of coffee, so we have to run more water through the maker, so each of us can get a second cup. As well, the warming pad turns off too early, at least for us. Not a big problem, I just re-heat the coffee in the microwave. The unit is great for one person. We like the coffee it makes, and the ease of the maintenance. I just wish it could make 10 regular cups of coffee, and the warming pad would stay on a little longer.

Meh, Was expecting better quality....carafe is awful to pour from. UPDATE
Update: since posting this review customer service contacted offering me an alternate product, free of charge. Very good CS but the product sent is a one cup “”Keurig” type affair. This product works very well...one cup at a time..So this coffee maker was pretty pricey compared to some. I waited until I had used it for a couple of weeks before reviewing.Let's start with positive: Great size wise, nice compact, streamlined. One button is perfect. Now the not so positive: Impossible to pour from the carafe without coffee going everywhere but in the cup. Especially when full. Design flaw. Take my advice, pour over the sink. Make "10" cups, but you'll only get 6 because you'll lose 4 cups when pouring...oh and have a rag ready to mop up the rest. Truly awful. Let's talk about he "stainless steel" part of the advert....I'm certain there must be steel *somewhere* in this product but aside from the warming plate, I can't find it. Plastic, people, plastic. The color is metallic so maybe that counts?? About the basket...well it takes a bit of jiggling to make it fit in the coffee maker, once you remove it for cleaning or whatever purpose. I really dislike product assembly elements that do not fit correctly. So if you like doing puzzles where the pieces don't *quite* fit and the picture on the box looks fantastic but the actual end result is so-so and you enjoy mopping up messes BEFORE your first cup of coffee in the morning...buy THIS! You'll love it <wink>.
