Worth the money
So far so good. Read a lot of reviews on wick soaking so I put the whole wick in the paraffin for 4 hrs. Filled it up, was a little tricky getting the wick housing to seat but I think it's just a tight fit.I also read a lot about it smoking. This seems to be true in that as you turn it up it will inevitably smoke. I found setting the flame to just below the dome mesh protector there is no smoke. This still gives off good heat and to be fair it's only for frost protection not a heater. Yes the wick can go high but it will smoke like any wick would. If you want heat buy a heater.Mine did pop and blow it self out a few times but it seems to have settled now and has been burning all night. So its been ok so far but i will be back with more once i put this in my allotment greenhouse

Can be made to work well
As many people have mentioned, the slot for the wick adjuster should be an inverted L shape. This can be fixed quite easily by drilling two holes and cutting/filing them to extend the slot sideways. The burner to tank fitting on my heater is the push-fit metal-to-metal type, which is good. However, I found that the burner kept going out. Having observed it indoors for a while, I noticed that every now an then, the flame flashes upwards. Sometimes after such a flash, the flame does not re-ignite, which is why it goes out.Turns out there is a sizable gap between the body of the burner section and the rectangular piece that holds the wick. Below this gap is an empty chamber, which is exposed to the wick. What happens is that the paraffin slowly vaporizes from the wick into the chamber and when it reaches a certain concentration, it ignites, producing that flash. To stop this from happening, one must close that gap. I did this by covering the burner top with heat resistant aluminium tape and cutting out a rectangular hole for the wick. Now only the wick is exposed to the flame. My burner has been operating continuously at low flame for a long time now.We shouldn't need to make these modifications; Parasene please take note of the user feedback. It's a cheap burner, but it's so easy to make it right!

Looks a great little heater.
The heater is well made except you need a screw stopper instead of what there is now.I have not started using it yet but I think it will be perfect .

Hit and Miss
Bought one 3 years ago and used it in a little growhouse. It has worked faultlessly every season. Bought a second one to use at them same time in a new larger greenhouse. The original one still works great, the brand new one won't stay lit. Have even tried swapping the wicks between the working one and the new one and yet the new one still it goes out after 10 mins. The fuel is from the same bottle. This thing is so simple there should be no reason for one to work and one to not. The only difference I can see between them is the wick outlet sits higher on the new one. Definitely a quality control issue I would suggest.Buy with caution, if it works great, if it doesn't then throw it away and move on..........

A Bit of a Disaster Really
Not sure if this was just down to my inexperience I but I filled the heater with paraffin and left it in the greenhouse over a very cold weekend. When I came back it appeared to have gone out but, when I removed the cowal, it was still burning but with a yellow flame. Then the disaster occurred as I attempted to refill it with paraffin and adjust the wick. Basically ended up with paraffin all over my gloves and lucky not to have burnt myself in the process. The construction of the heater did not help, 3 pieces consisting of the fuel tank, a combined wick and holder which doubles as the seal for the fuel tank and a cowl that fits (not terribly securely) on top. Not the easiest of things to take apart and refill - especially when the wick turns out to be still alight! One last point, although it has nothing to do with the heater itself, paraffin is more expensive than I thought it would be, over £[] for 5 litres and the heater took about half of this to fill.P.S I forgot to mention the mess - hands and everything they touched covered in filthy black carbon from the cowal.

Works perfectly although it has not had to do too much this winter but has kept the edge of my 6 X 6 greenhouse and I have not lost any of my plants. I read a lot of reviews complaining about the wick but to be honest I did not notice any problems at all. All smoking and going out issues listed in the reviews appear to be in the wick setup and I am happy that I took the risk and decided to try this item out.

Looks better than it is
I didn't buy this with any thoughts of heating my small greenhouse, only as a frost protector. However the design leaves something to be desired and only a few tweeks would have made a big difference. For example the burner only pushes into the fuel tank and jumps out at the slightest touch making it unsafe. Surely a screw thread would not be beyond someones imagination. The cover that drops over the top has to line up not only with the retaining lugs but also the wick winder stem and as soon as it is turned to locate the lugs it pops out the burner as there is no corresponding side slot for it to turn into.I have already modified that by filing a sideways slot, so that the winder remains untouched when I rotate the top, Something that should have been done by the manufacturer.People have already mentioned the smell and smoking but having had paraffin heaters of one sort and another over the last 60 years, I am quite aware that they ALL smell and it is purely a matter of wick adjustment that stops them smoking. After all this is just a cheap single yellow flame burner not a circular blue flame of more expensive design. Can't honestly say that I can recommend it from the design point of view and have not had it long enough to vouch for its frost prevention.

Careful with the rubber stopper,it can leak if parrafin filled to top,
My original one of 15 years had a metal filling cap.The new model has a flimsy rubber stopper and is subject to overflow ,would not have bought if I had known about this design.

It is a very interested burner, but somehow I either do not know how to use it or it does work the way I want it to work (I want a small flame to keep my little greenhouse warm in the basement, flame too small , or too large produce lots of sod black smoke, a lot!

Sehr sparsam!
